Super Strong Little Divine Farmer

Chapter 638: Chapter 639: Inferior Friends

Although the case caused a sensation throughout Manchester City, Lin Chen now had no leisure to pay attention to it.

As Entertainment City was about to open, Lin Chen was also dragged by Wei Ling to do manual labor; after all, as a major shareholder, it wouldn’t be quite appropriate for him to do nothing.

The two of them ended up working from dawn to dusk without having a bite to eat.

Lin Chen’s stomach was already protesting, ”Ling Sister, let’s eat something, or I’m going to faint from hunger.”

Looking at Lin Chen slumped in the chair, a picture of dejection, Wei Ling laughed, ”Alright, seeing you’ve behaved well these past two days, I’ll take you out for something good to eat.”

The two drove to a restaurant on the riverside with a traditional Chinese décor.

The restaurant had a very nice environment, and the taste of the Chinese food was also quite good; although the price was a bit high, it was still very popular.

However, most of the customers at this restaurant were wealthy people.

The two chose a seat near the riverside and were just about to order.

At this moment, a man dressed in a black suit walked over excitedly, ”Wei Ling, do you still remember me? I’m your former classmate, Duo Ya!”

Wei Ling was stunned for a moment but then showed a surprised expression on seeing Duo Ya’s face.

”Duo Ya, it’s been so long since we’ve seen each other, to think I’d run into you here,” Wei Ling recognized the young man quickly.

Duo Ya excitedly introduced him to a middle-aged man beside him, ”Dad, this is Wei Ling, we were university classmates. Why don’t we dine together?”

The middle-aged man, full of officialdom, smiled, ”Sure, let’s have dinner together then.”

Upon hearing the middle-aged man’s words, Duo Ya excitedly said, ”Wei Ling, let me introduce you, this is my father, Duo Kun, the Commissioner of the North City Police Station.”

When Duo Ya mentioned his father’s position, his face clearly showed a smug expression.

Wei Ling smiled politely, ”Hello, Uncle Duo Kun.”

Duo Kun looked at Wei Ling with a beaming smile, ”Hello, you are quite beautiful. Are you married?”

Wei Ling smiled shyly, ”Uncle, I’m not married yet.”

”Not married, that’s good, that’s good.” Duo Kun sized up Wei Ling with an expression that seemed as if he was examining a potential daughter-in-law.

Excitement radiated from Duo Ya’s face; obviously, his father had taken a liking to Wei Ling.

Back when they were in school, Wei Ling was the belle of the campus, and at that time, Duo Ya had pursued her, but she had not accepted him.

Now things were different. His father had just been promoted to Commissioner of the North City Police Station, and he was a returned scholar with a doctoral degree. He felt that he was now completely worthy of Wei Ling.

”Wei Ling, do you know? Of all our classmates, after graduation, you were the only one I couldn’t stop thinking about,” Duo Ya said with a smile.

Wei Ling laughed awkwardly, ”Is that so?”

”Ling Sister, let’s order quickly. I’m so hungry my stomach is about to cave in,” Lin Chen grumbled.

Already famished, and now faced with this father and son’s endless chatter, Lin Chen was feeling extremely frustrated.

It was only then that Duo Ya finally noticed Lin Chen and extended his hand with a smile, ”Hello, who might you be?”

”Me? I’m Wei Ling’s boyfriend,” Lin Chen said with a smile.

Upon hearing Lin Chen’s words, Duo Kun’s expression changed slightly, but Duo Ya still had a smile on his face.

”Stop joking, Little Ling is so outstanding, how could you be her boyfriend! If I’m not mistaken, you must be a farmer, right!” Duo Ya said, the corner of his mouth curling up with a hint of pride.

Lin Chen was taken aback and laughed, ”Where did you get the idea that I’m a farmer?”

Duo Ya said, ”Firstly, it’s your clothes. Your outfit looks like it comes from a street stall, so it must not be worth much. Secondly, your hands. Your hands are full of calluses which show you’ve done a lot of farm work.”

Listening to Duo Ya’s analysis, Lin Chen chuckled, ”Well, you’re quite right in what you say.”

”Of course, I am. I graduated from Dulun University, I’m a psychology major who returned from abroad with a doctorate. As soon as I came back to the country, I was directly recruited by the police department. Now, I am already an assistant police chief,” Duo Ya said with an arrogant expression.

Being an assistant police chief in your twenties is indeed an impressive feat, but for Lin Chen, it was not much of a concern.

Duo Ya smiled at Duo Kun, ”Dad, isn’t the police station recently hiring some cleaners? Why not let Wei Ling’s friend do it? It’s still better than manual labor.”

On the surface, Duo Ya seemed to be giving Wei Ling face, helping her friend find a job, but in fact, it was a blatant mockery of Lin Chen.

Lin Chen naturally heard the insinuation in Duo Ya’s words and replied lightly with a smile, ”Thanks, but I’m not looking for work right now.”

”What? You don’t want to work, could it be?” Duo Ya glanced at Wei Ling. What he really wanted to say was, is this man someone you’re keeping as a gigolo. However, he held back the words on the tip of his tongue and did not say them out loud.

”It’s not okay to be idle and lazy. Young man, you should really find a job. Otherwise, it’s very easy to end up on the path of crime. I have seen too many people like you,” Duo Kun said with a look of disdain.

As she listened to the father and son go back and forth, Wei Ling’s expression grew more and more unpleasant.

Lin Chen was nearly at a loss for words, not wanting to listen to the two bragging anymore, ”Gentlemen, if you’d like to chat, can we order our food first and then talk? I’m really hungry.”

A smirk appeared on Duo Ya’s face, as if looking at Lin Chen who had never had the chance to eat fine food. Laughing, he said, ”Order whatever you want. It’s on me today.”

Upon hearing this, Lin Chen’s eyes lit up, ”Wow, this gentleman is quite generous.”

With that, Lin Chen summoned the waiter, flipping directly to the last page of the menu: ”This one, this one, I’ll have a plate of each.”

Duo Ya caught a glimpse and his complexion changed slightly, knowing that the dishes Lin Chen had ordered were the most expensive ones on the menu.

After all, he had already made the offer, so it would be embarrassing to back out of it now.

Lin Chen casually ordered more than a dozen dishes, racking up a bill that would certainly be in the hundreds of thousands.

Looking at the dishes Lin Chen ordered, the father and son’s faces turned ashen, but in order to maintain their facade, Duo Ya endured it.

At this point, Duo Ya completely ignored Lin Chen, showering Wei Ling with attentive gestures plainly showing he was pursuing her.

Once the food was served, Lin Chen found the ongoing chatter of the two less bothersome. He ate voraciously, not stopping for a moment as he devoured the dishes.

Lin Chen was enjoying his meal when suddenly his phone rang.

After answering, it turned out to be Qima calling.

”Hello, beauty. What made you think of me?” Lin Chen asked with a smile.

”Lin Chen, where are you? I need to find you for something urgent,” Qima said somewhat anxiously.

”Oh, I’m at the Hua Xia restaurant, just eating,” Lin Chen replied.

Qima hurriedly said, ”I happen to be nearby. I’ll come to you.”

”Okay, come quick. I’ve just ordered lots of good food!” Lin Chen said with a laugh.

Hearing that Lin Chen was not only eating himself but also inviting friends to join, Duo Ya felt displeased, ”Sir, I hope you don’t invite those lowly friends over. They might affect my appetite.”

Lin Chen nearly choked on his food at Duo Ya’s words. To think that the police chief of the city was being referred to as a lowly friend!
