Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

”Around a little past five this morning, I went to fetch water like usual and heard people talking inside the Cooperative Personnel’s room.”

”That guy He Zhi, you should’ve seen him before, we’ve dealt with him in the past. He’s trying to rope in that Xiao Ou and stir up some kind of protest.”

”Aside from that, I learned from him that this protest seems to be organized by someone called Qiu Yuanze or something like that.”

”And most of the people taking part in this protest are that bunch who just arrived, and judging from the sound of it, there are quite a lot of them.”

...

Noble Consort told Old Huang and Xiao Ye everything she’d heard in the morning, down to the last detail.

After she finished, Noble Consort looked at Old Huang with a bit of expectation, wanting to hear what he thought.

After listening, Xiao Ye frowned and asked:

”Sis Noble Consort, that bunch is really too reckless, aren’t they? Do they just not get what’s going on? How do they even dare to pull something like this!”

Old Huang waved his hand and said slowly:

”After all, they have no idea what Director Li and the others have done before, and even less how the Motorcycle Gang was wiped out.”

As he spoke, a cold glint flashed in his eyes.

He continued:

”Going by Big Camphor Tree Base’s usual style of doing things, that so‑called protest is pure nonsense.

Even if it blows up, at most it’ll affect one Satellite City, and if the people in the base get wind of it, they can put it down quickly. On that point, there’s no doubt.”

Noble Consort nodded, agreeing with what Old Huang said.

”It’s just that we have to use this matter to help the base while getting the biggest possible benefit for the three of us. On that front, I need to think.” Old Huang stroked his beard and spoke slowly.

Suddenly, he asked:

”Right, did you hear them say when they’re going to act?”

Noble Consort shook her head and said, ”No, that’s why I’m wondering whether we should hurry up and tell Captain Guo and the others.”

Hearing this, Old Huang fell silent for a while.

Then he asked:

”You just said there was someone called Qiu Yuanze? He’s the one organizing this protest?”

Noble Consort said uncertainly, ”He Zhi didn’t say outright that he’s organizing it, but from the way he talked, it’s very likely Qiu Yuanze is the one.”

”Mm...”

Old Huang looked at the woods around them as pine needles rustled down.

Seeing that he was thinking, Noble Consort and Xiao Ye didn’t interrupt, just waited quietly.

After all, it was Old Huang who had led them to strike it rich before.

.....

After a long while.

Old Huang’s gaze showed he’d made up his mind, and he finally spoke:

”I don’t know this Qiu Yuanze either. Our manpower is limited, and there are too many new arrivals. If we start poking around rashly, it’ll be easy to draw attention.

A few days ago, Jiu Ge and the others were picked up by a helicopter, and on top of that, we haven’t seen Director Li and the others around lately. They must have gone far out on a mission.

I’m thinking maybe these newly added people are banking on that, figuring Big Camphor Tree Base is hollowed out inside and using the chance to make a move.

Right now we don’t know when Director Li and the others will be back, but I feel that with just the people currently in the base, that bunch still won’t be able to kick up much of a fuss.

If we could find out when they plan to move, of course we could investigate more.

But at the moment we don’t know when that bunch will act, and we’re short on hands.

I think we absolutely have to tell Guo Peng about this as soon as possible and let them do the digging.”

.....

Noble Consort listened carefully, then nodded and asked, ”Since the sooner the better, then why don’t we just skip collecting supplies today and go back right now to tell Captain Guo? Let them get prepared early.”

Hearing Noble Consort’s suggestion, Old Huang didn’t waste words. He climbed straight onto the flatbed and said to Xiao Ye:

”Grandson, drive, back to the Satellite City!”

”I am not your grandson.....”

Xiao Ye muttered under his breath, but he knew how important this was, so he swung his long legs over and rode the motorcycle toward the Fifth Satellite City.

Fifth Satellite City.

Guo Peng was sitting in the hall of the central concrete building.

He was eating a fresh piece of fruit, his weekly ration as an Outer City staffer.

Thinking back on the kind of days he used to live.

He’d never imagined he could have a day like this in the Doomsday.

Dozens of people under his command, and he controlled many of the Cooperative Personnel in the Satellite City.

But recently, with so many people pouring in from the Southwest, managing them had become quite a headache.

”Captain, Old Huang and Noble Consort want to see you. They say there’s something big to tell you.” Gongsun Jing came in holding a gun and spoke to Guo Peng.

Guo Peng nodded and said, ”Let them in.”

He then glanced at the fresh fruit he’d only eaten half of. He wanted to shove it all into his mouth in one go, but couldn’t quite bear to.

So he stuffed the half‑eaten fruit into his pocket, waiting for Noble Consort and the others to arrive.

Soon, Gongsun Jing led Noble Consort and the others in.

Noble Consort and Old Huang both called out to Guo Peng, ”Captain Guo!”

”What is it?”

Guo Peng looked at them and asked.

Noble Consort glanced at Old Huang, and Old Huang stepped forward.

He roughly went over what they’d discovered today to Guo Peng.

”What? There are still people who dare to rebel? They dare?!!”

Guo Peng’s eyes widened; he spoke, surprised and angry.

Beside him, Gongsun Jing, after hearing this, slowly walked over and closed the hall door.

”Come with me.” Guo Peng took them to a small room on the third floor.

”Tell me in detail.”

Old Huang then laid out the details.

And he said to Guo Peng, ”As far as I know, among the many people who came from the Southwest, a lot of them haven’t registered. I suspect the ones planning to cause trouble are likely the ones whose names aren’t registered.”
