Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 872: Chapter 627: The Second Choice, Zhang Rufen

The sound of rain was pattering.

A little after five o’clock, the drizzle turned into a downpour.

But the sky wasn’t so gloomy anymore, and a faint blush began to appear on the horizon.

Li Yu was still resting and sleeping inside the Unimog. On rainy days, with the cold weather, he could only stay inside.

After another half an hour, the rain gradually subsided.

As time went by, around six o’clock, the sun finally began to slowly emerge from the clouds. By then, the rain had stopped, and the ground was left with glistening water.

Under the sunlight, the dark clouds started to dissipate, turning into thin mist, and the outlines of tall buildings in the distance became faintly visible. Soon after, the entire sky brightened up, and the air after the rain was fresh and pleasant.

”Big brother, the rain has stopped. The sun is out, we can go home now.” Li Gang excitedly banged on the door of that small room at the back of the Unimog.

Li Yu got up, dressed in his clothes and outer riot gear, opened the door, and saw Li Gang’s excited face.

”Got it, let everyone get ready. We’ll set off in half an hour,” Li Yu said flatly.

Li Gang rushed off the Unimog to inform everyone to prepare for departure.

Li Yu looked at the brightened sky, as if it was telling people that the future was full of hope.

Dapao came from another vehicle, bringing a notebook and a recording to find Li Yu.

He had been interrogating until past two in the morning, and because Li Yu was resting, he hadn’t given it to him then.

With some fatigue, Dapao handed the items to Li Yu and said, ”Brother Yu, we did the interrogation yesterday. The information we got is quite similar to what Gao Ru said. Mainly, there are some additional details; take a look.”

Li Yu took it over but didn’t immediately check the contents. Seeing Dapao’s tired look, he knew he had been interrogating until very late.

So he said, ”Don’t drive today. Take a nap in the car. Once you wake up, we should be at the base.”

Dapao was pleased to hear this and did not refuse. He said to Li Yu, ”Okay, I’ll go have something to eat first then.”

Li Yu waved to let him go.

After Dapao left, Li Yu opened the notebook and began to browse through it.

After a while, after roughly flipping through it, he became more familiar and understanding of the Western Alliance’s situation.

As he had thought before, the people at Juzi Island, including the Western Alliance, still didn’t know of their existence.

If so, then their return to the base was indeed the right decision.

Li Yu closed the notebook. During the time he had just reviewed it, everyone had already packed up and prepared to return to the Big Camphor Tree Base.

”Big brother, we’re all set, but how do we handle Hai Chao and Gao Ru’s folks?” Li Tie came to Li Yu and asked.

Li Yu hesitated for a moment; Hai Chao had three people, and Gao Ru had four.

In total, there were seven people. Keeping them was too wasteful of food.

Yet it would be too cruel to kill them.

Fortunately, Li Yu was a ruthless person.

So he said to Li Tie, ”Other than Hai Chao and Gao Ru, solve the others on the spot. Take Gao Ru and Hai Chao back to the base; see if they can be of any use later. Once it’s done, we’ll set off.”

Li Tie nodded and said, ”Okay, give me two minutes.”

Li Yu also got into the car and sat on the sofa inside.

He watched through the rearview mirror in the car, seeing those people lying on the ground. Li Tie stepped up to check if they were really dead, then sprinkled some gasoline on the bodies and set them on fire.

He got in the car.

”Let’s go,” Li Yu said.

The gate opened.

Yang Tianlong, learning from Third Uncle, made a mark on the door before finally getting in the car and leaving.

The group grandly drove towards the Big Camphor Tree Base.

There was still some water on the road. In this Doomsday, with roads not maintained, the road was bumpy, and some had relatively large puddles.

The tires rolled over, splashing small water droplets.

The road was slippery, so driving couldn’t be too fast, so they maintained a speed of seventy kilometers per hour towards the Big Camphor Tree Base.

Third Uncle, being at the end, kept watching the rearview mirror, as if he noticed something.

Yang Tianlong, in the same vehicle, was curious about Third Uncle’s action and said, ”Third Uncle, did you find something behind us?”

Third Uncle shook his head and said, ”No.”

”Then what are you looking at?” Yang Tianlong became even more curious after hearing there was nothing.

Third Uncle smiled and said, ”Well, it’s okay. Just checking if there’s anyone behind us or if there’s any situation. Often, by checking frequently, you can find hidden dangers. And if nothing is found, that’s even better.”

Yang Tianlong was greatly shocked by Third Uncle’s words and learned a lot.

Very cautious, very careful.

It seemed like both Li Yu and Third Uncle were quite alike in this aspect.

So he turned his head to look behind the car as well. Although nothing was there, observing the surroundings gave him a sense of reassurance.

Much more grounding than just sleeping in the car.

The vehicle moved along slowly, and at their current speed, having departed at eight in the morning, they should arrive by today’s afternoon around four.

After the natural disaster, particularly the rapid temperature drop following high heat, the road took severe damage.

There’s a pit almost every ten meters, always rugged and uneven, never stopping.

Before Doomsday, there were always road maintenance teams repairing the roads, working on them year after year, never finishing them, but at least they were actually being repaired.

But now, in Doomsday, no one is there to repair the roads anymore.
