Apocalyptic Reincarnation: Start with a 30-million Bonus

Chapter 858: Chapter 621: The Hunter and the Hunted (Double-Length)

Ding Jiu, Xiao Qian, He Chao, and the others nodded slightly to show they understood.

”Alright then, everyone get busy,” Second Uncle said to the group.

The crowd gradually dispersed.

”Oh, An Ya and Xiao Shi, please stay,” Second Uncle said to An Ya and Xiao Shi, who were about to leave.

The two were a bit puzzled and stopped.

They walked up to Second Uncle.

Second Uncle looked at them and said, ”Before Xiao Yu left, he specifically mentioned the current underground plantation base to me. Are there any problems, and do you need any help?”

An Ya rolled up the notebook in her hands and said to Second Uncle, ”There’s no issue with lighting, water sources, or fertilizers; it’s just that scale insects have appeared recently. To kill them, we use Avidin insecticide. I mentioned this to Bai Jie, and she can prepare it on her side. No big issues.”

Second Uncle was a bit tense upon hearing about the pests but relaxed when he heard Bai Jie could handle it.

”That’s good. If you have any needs or if there are any issues in the underground plantation, be sure to report them immediately,” Second Uncle said.

An Ya and Xiao Shi both nodded.

”Alright, you two can go get busy then,” Second Uncle told them.

The two took their leave and exited the duty room.

After they left, Second Uncle also walked out of the duty room.

Father Li was on the wall looking at the distant mountains and forests, lost in thought, and when he heard footsteps behind him, he saw it was his second brother.

”Hongda, didn’t Xiao Yu and the others say they’d be back in at most two days? It’s almost the end of the day, and they haven’t returned yet. Could something have happened?”

Second Uncle looked at his older brother, sighed, and said, ”Big brother, Lao San and Xiao Yu have both gone out; there won’t be any problems. You know how Xiao Yu is, he’s always cautious.”

Father Li shook his head and said, ”Xiao Yu has always been independent, and he doesn’t like to talk to me much. When he came back, he wanted to build a farm, and then I saw him kill someone. I wondered how he became like this, but later I realized he was doing the right thing. As his father, I’m so incompetent; I don’t understand him at all.”

Second Uncle comforted Father Li, saying, ”No matter how he changes, he still carries the Li name; he’s still your son, my nephew. He’d never do anything bad to our family.

And it’s been almost two years now, he’s borne a lot of pressure for the base and for everyone. Big brother, don’t worry so much, they’ll be back.”

Father Li let out a long sigh and nodded.

He smiled and said, ”Recently, I’ve noticed Haoran seems to have something going on with Xu Zhen’s sister.”

Second Uncle scratched his head, which was rare; his own brat was now learning to woo girls.

”Let young people decide their own matters; I can’t control it anyway,” Second Uncle said.

”Alright. I won’t chat with you anymore; I’ll go check the underground pipes. Xu Zhen mentioned there’s a crack in the culvert near the back door,” Father Li said.

”Alright, I’ll be on duty here.”

.....

Juzi Island.

Evening twilight.

Many birds have taken this city as a nesting site.

The city lacks the hustle and bustle of cars and people, appearing very empty.

In the silent city, under the setting sun, Li Yu and his group stood atop a tall building, looking down, seeing no one.

It felt absurdly surreal.

He removed a headset earpiece and placed a Bluetooth earbud in his ear.

Took out a phone and played a song.

A piano tune started playing, a piece called ”Lullaby.”

Autumn is known by the frost leaves, the misty forest in the mountains, the heart longs for it.

Music is a medicine for the human spirit.

Li Yu’s heart was filled with uncontrollable sadness, an uncontainable killing intent.

During those five years before rebirth, he endured too much pain alone.

Betrayed by others, nearly eaten by zombies.

Later, he was even captured by a group of survivors and almost became someone else’s dinner.

He had seen too much tragedy in the apocalypse, severely affecting him.

After being reborn, the company of family and friends helped him heal a lot.

But still, occasionally, a surge of rage would rise uncontrollably.

Kill, kill, kill! Wipe out all the zombies, all the evil in the world.

Li Yu took out a candy from his pocket, unwrapped it, and put it in his mouth.

The sweet taste instantly flooded his mouth.

”Brother Yu, it seems they won’t be coming over today,” Dapao walked over from behind and said to Li Yu.

He didn’t say who ”they” were, but Li Yu knew Dapao meant Gao Ru and the others who were supposed to come from Juzi Island to the Western Alliance.

”No rush, let’s wait slowly. Tonight, have everyone stay cautious. Even if we’re spread out, this is still a city, and there are many zombies, so let’s all be careful,” Li Yu said to Dapao.

Dapao nodded and went to inform everyone.

The sun set in the west, and the night gradually fell.

They needed to wait here for Gao Ru and the others to return.

....

Western Alliance.

Gao Ru excitedly said to his subordinates, ”This time, we’ll go back, pack up everything there, and then return to the Western Alliance headquarters. We won’t have to shuttle back and forth anymore.”

A tall man, hearing this, was very happy and said excitedly, ”What about food? Did they give us food?”

Upon hearing this, Gao Ru glared at him — why mention that? Once they returned from Juzi Island, they wouldn’t need to worry about food anymore.

However, he also knew that when they left Juzi Island, Gan Shang and the others had already reduced the food supply to only a third of what it used to be.
