Harry Potter: Most Annoying System Ever

The contrast between the biting December frost and the subterranean warmth of the lower lawn was absolute.

A thick, fragrant steam rose off the polished white marble pool, creating a localized bubble of humid comfort that defied the snow-covered yew hedges surrounding it. Orion floated lazily on his back in the center of the deep end, the enchanted filtration and heating runes humming smoothly beneath the water.

Robin was curled up on a floating pillow a few feet away, blissfully snoring with a stolen silver butter knife tucked under his belly.

Orion stared up at the grey winter sky, watching the snowflakes melt into vapor feet above the pool’s surface.

”Alright, boss,” Sparkle’s interface manifested directly in his line of sight, hovering like a translucent blue sun visor. ”Bella has officially packed her bags, raided your father’s cabinet for travel rations, and vanished into the woods following that brass compass. Now explain to me why in the nine hells you just gave the Dark Lord’s most lethal attack dog a direct homing beacon to her master.”

Orion didn’t open his eyes. He gently paddled his hands, keeping himself buoyant.

”Because being blind is a death sentence, Sparkle,” Orion answered, his voice echoing softly over the steaming water. ”Did you honestly expect me to leave Tom Riddle’s movements to chance? His followers are loose. Pettigrew is running around specifically to locate him. Barty Crouch Junior is still rotting under an Imperius Curse in his father’s cellar, waiting for a trigger. They were always going to find him eventually.”

He tilted his head, letting the hot water lap against his jawline.

”If they find him on their own, they operate in the pitch black. They choose the safe houses, they set the timeline, and they strike when I am least prepared. By giving Bellatrix the compass, I dictate the speed of the search. More importantly, through the familiar bond, I have effectively turned his most fanatical lieutenant into an open communication line. I will know his physical condition, his geographic coordinates, and his strategic intentions the moment he whispers them.”

”Okay, fair point on the surveillance network,” Sparkle conceded, her waveform pulsing in rhythm with the ripples. ”Keep your friends close and your genocidal dark lords on GPS tracking. But why the rush to get him found? You kept preaching caution all year.”

Orion opened his indigo eyes, staring through the steam with cold, analytical clarity.

”Because the entire foundation of my Four-Year Plan hinges on one absolute, non-negotiable prerequisite,” Orion stated firmly. ”Tom Riddle must undergo a complete physical resurrection at the end of next year.”

”Go on,” Sparkle prompted, recognizing his tactical tone.

”Think about what he currently is,” Orion commanded, rolling onto his front and treading water. ”He is a bodiless wraith. An ethereal, spectral parasite. Can you decapitate a ghost with a Severing Charm, Sparkle? Can you burn a disembodied soul with Fiendfyre? No. You can destroy his possessed host—exactly like Quirrell was crushed by the Troll in our first year—and what happens? The spirit simply screeches, detaches, and flies back to an Albanian forest to wait another decade.”

Orion gripped the smooth marble coping of the pool’s edge, his expression grim.

”As long as he lacks a physical body, he is essentially immortal and unkillable. Hunting down all his Horcruxes while he remains a wraith only strips him of his resurrection anchors, but it does not destroy him. He could wander the earth for centuries as a spectral pestilence. The only way to permanently end the war... is to let him build a flesh-and-blood vessel. Anchor his soul to a biological nervous system. Give him lungs to breathe, a heart to beat, and blood to bleed.”

Orion smirked, a vicious, predatory expression.

”Once he steps out of that cauldron in the graveyard, he is no longer an untouchable concept. He is a biological organism. A ridiculously powerful one, yes, but mortal. Break his Horcruxes, strip away his protections, and a simple piercing hex through the skull will drop him just like any other man.”

”A sound biological thesis,” Sparkle agreed, her tone turning deeply thoughtful. ”Give the god flesh so you can butcher him. And, I know what you must be worried about. The butterfly effect.”

”Exactly,” Orion sighed, resting his chin on his crossed arms against the marble coping. ”And that is precisely what is keeping me awake at night.”

He pushed off the wall, floating back into the center of the warm basin.

”Let us dissect the dominoes of next year,” Orion began, his Level 2 Mind Arts partitioning the variables into a structured mental ledger. ”First: The Triwizard Tournament. Why does Britain host an ancient, highly dangerous, international tournament in the original timeline?”

”Fudge needed a distraction,” Sparkle answered immediately.

”Precisely,” Orion nodded. ”In the canon timeline, Cornelius Fudge’s administration was in absolute, catastrophic shambles by the summer of 1994. Sirius Black had infiltrated Hogwarts multiple times and successfully escaped from the top of the Dark Tower right under the noses of hundreds of Dementors and the Minister himself. The Ministry looked utterly incompetent. Fudge was sweating through his bowler hat, desperate to change the headline. Ludo Bagman, drowning in massive gambling debts to the goblins, capitalized on that desperation and pitched the Triwizard Tournament as the ultimate PR victory to restore British prestige.”

Orion closed his eyes, mapping the current divergence.

”Now look at our board,” Orion pointed out. ”Sirius Black is not an escaped fugitive. He is a legally exonerated, publicly compensated free man. The Dementors were removed from Hogwarts weeks ago without a single soul being sucked out on school grounds. Yes, Bellatrix and the others broke out of Azkaban, but that occurred under a general prison riot, not an embarrassing breach of Dumbledore’s castle. Furthermore, Fudge currently has material to divert attention from the recent death eater actions. He blames the old organization for Sirius’s incarceration and his own actions as beacons of justice.”

He opened his eyes, staring at the blue interface.

”Fudge is not currently cornered. He is not desperate. Which means the political necessity to host the Triwizard Tournament as a diversionary smokescreen might not naturally materialize. Ludo Bagman can pitch it all he wants, but if the Ministry feels secure, the Wizengamot might deem the logistical and financial headache of international delegations entirely unnecessary.”

”Which means you might have to actively manufacture a crisis,” Sparkle deduced, her digital voice laced with sudden intrigue. ”You need to put Fudge back in a corner so he greenlights the tournament.”

”A problem for early spring,” Orion noted. ”Manageable through Lucius and a few other kinds of chaos. But that is not the most terrifying divergence.”

Orion pushed his wet hair back from his forehead, his jaw clenching as his analytical mind struck the core theoretical flaw in the graveyard resurrection.

”The second problem,” Orion whispered, ”is the ritual itself. The resurrection potion.”

”Bone of the father, unknowingly taken. Flesh of the servant, willingly sacrificed. Blood of the enemy, forcibly taken,” Sparkle recited the incantation.

”Exactly,” Orion said, his eyes narrowing into cold slits. ”Blood of the enemy. In canon, Tom Riddle specifically, obsessively fixates on utilizing Harry Potter’s blood. He spends an entire year orchestrating an insanely convoluted plot—infiltrating Hogwarts with a polyjuiced Death Eater, rigging a magical tournament, and turning a trophy into a Portkey—just to drag Potter to a graveyard.”

Orion paused, letting the silence hang over the steaming pool.

”Why did he do that, Sparkle? Why Potter? Why not kidnap a random Auror? Why not ambush an Order member? Why not use Dumbledore’s blood if he truly wanted the ’greatest enemy’?”

”Because of Lily’s protection,” Sparkle answered, the realization dawning on her. ”In canon Year One, Quirrell tried to strangle Harry and his hands literally burned to ash because of the sacrificial blood wards lingering in Harry’s skin. Voldemort learned firsthand that touching the boy was lethal. He wanted Harry’s blood in the resurrection potion specifically to incorporate that protection into his new body, allowing him to physically touch and kill Potter without burning.”

Orion slammed his palm flat against the surface of the water, sending a massive, warm splash cascading across the marble coping.

”And that,” Orion hissed, his voice cutting through the steam like a blade, ”is the catastrophic flaw in our timeline.”

He gripped the edge of the pool, his breathing shallow.

”In this timeline, Quirrell never cornered Harry in the underground chamber. He was crushed into bloody paste by an enraged Mountain Troll and a Cerberus in the third-floor corridor while trying to bypass the dog door. Voldemort’s wraith fled the castle without ever laying a single, physical finger on Harry Potter.”

Orion looked directly into the pulsing blue interface, laying bare the absolute unpredictability of their reality.

”Tom Riddle has no idea about the burning touch. He has never experienced the physical recoil of Lily’s sacrificial ward. As far as his wraith is concerned, he was blasted apart by a miraculous, unexplainable curse rebound twelve years ago, nothing more.”

Orion took a slow, icy breath.

”If he doesn’t know he needs Potter’s blood to bypass a biological burn... then he has absolutely zero reason to obsess over kidnapping a heavily guarded thirteen-year-old from the center of Hogwarts. He could brew that potion tomorrow using the blood of an Auror, a Ministry clerk, or an old Order member, resurrect in a forgotten cellar, and completely bypass the graveyard scenario entirely.”

The silence returned to the South Gardens, heavy and suffocating despite the warmth of the water.

”Well,” Sparkle whispered, her digital waveform trembling. ”That... is a rather massive plot hole.”

Orion closed his eyes, sinking beneath the surface of the heated pool, letting the silence of the water drown out the frantic calculations of his mind. He had broken the script. Now he had to figure out how to write the ending himself.
