Reincarnated as a Mosquito, I Sucked the Reborn Empress to Tears

Chapter 85: Chapter 85: Insect Plague Outbreak in Du Nan City? Spirit Medicine Industry in Crisis?

At the same time, in the mountains behind Du Nan First Middle School, a vast area was shrouded by a Ninth-Grade Array. This was one of the school’s most critical core facilities—the Spirit Medicine Cultivation Base.

At this moment, in a conference room in the base’s core area, the atmosphere was as oppressive as a graveyard.

The principal of Du Nan First Middle School, Chen Xiaozhang, was pacing back and forth with a troubled expression.

In front of him sat more than a dozen people, every one of them a top-notch expert from the Great Xia Federation in the field of Spiritual Plant cultivation.

A few of them were the chief cultivators from Du Nan’s local pharmaceutical giant, the Xiao Group.

The others were national treasures, experts from the Capital City Federal Spiritual Plant Research Institute, who had been invited at great expense!

But now, these influential figures—people who could make the entire Spirit Plant Realm of Great Xia tremble with a single stomp of their foot—were all frowning deeply and sighing in distress.

“It’s hopeless. It’s truly hopeless…”

A Spiritual Plant expert from the school shook his head in anguish. “These mutated Spirit-Devouring Worms… their Life Force and reproductive capabilities are unbelievably strong!”

“The special insecticide we developed has no effect on them at all! It’s like we’re fertilizing them instead! Their numbers just keep growing!”

Beside him, a master from the Capital City also had a grave expression. “Principal Chen, the situation is even more serious than we anticipated! Second-Grade variants have already appeared among these worms! And their numbers are still increasing!”

“If we don’t find a way to contain this, in less than half a month, this entire Spirit Medicine Field of yours will probably be completely ruined!”

An oppressive silence filled the conference room.

Defeat and bewilderment were written on everyone’s faces.

The matter began two years ago.

It’s unknown when it started, but a previously unseen type of tiny, insect-like Demon Beast appeared within the borders of Du Nan City.

These insects fed exclusively on Spirit Herbs and Elixirs and came to be known as “Spirit-Devouring Worms.”

Although their individual strength was extremely weak, only around the First-Grade.

But!

Their reproductive ability and Life Force were tenacious to an appalling degree!

They couldn’t be drowned, couldn’t be burned away, were immune to potent poisons, and ordinary physical attacks couldn’t do much damage to their alloy-like carapaces.

The most terrifying thing was their numbers!

Hundreds of millions! Perhaps even billions!

Even an Eighth-Grade Powerhouse would have to retreat when faced with so many First-Grade Demon Beasts!

For the past two years, Du Nan City had tried every possible method to deal with this sudden insect plague, and the Federation had sent several waves of experts, all with minimal results.

In the end, they could only resort to the crudest method: relying on numerous High-Tier Arrays to protect the most important Spirit Medicine Production Areas, while helplessly watching as the Spiritual Plants elsewhere were devoured.

This directly caused the total output of Spirit Herbs and Elixirs in Du Nan City to plummet by more than thirty percent over the past two years.

Originally, Du Nan First Middle School’s Spirit Medicine Base, protected by the Ninth-Grade Guardian Array set up by the Education Bureau, had always been the safest sanctuary in Du Nan City.

But just one month ago, disaster struck.

Those tiny insects had somehow managed to breach the lockdown of the Guardian Grand Array and infiltrate the base!

And to them, this treasured land of Du Nan First Middle School, with its incredibly dense Spiritual Qi, was practically heaven!

In just one short month, the insect plague had completely erupted inside the base!

What was even more terrifying was that just a few days ago, they discovered to their horror that the pests inside the base had actually mutated!

A large number of the pests’ strength had broken through from First-Grade to Second-Grade!

At that point, the situation spun completely out of control!

The Destructive Power of a Second-Grade pest was more than ten times that of a First-Grade one!

In just a few days, over thirty percent of the Spirit Medicine Fields in the base were devoured clean, turned into wastelands!

At this rate, the entire Spirit Medicine Base would be destroyed by these little bastards in less than two months!

How could they let that happen?!

This was Du Nan First Middle School’s most important foundation! It generated billions in profit for the school every year!

If it was all ruined, the school’s finances would completely collapse!

What was even more critical was that Du Nan First Middle School also had a long-term Spirit Medicine supply contract with the military. If they defaulted on that, the consequences…

Principal Chen Xiaozhang had panicked. He used all his connections to invite every expert he could, hoping to find a solution.

The result…

These top-notch experts from the Federation researched here for three whole days, tried hundreds of methods, and ultimately came to one conclusion—there was no solution.

Unless they could invite an Emperor-level Powerhouse to use the Power of Law and instantly erase these billions of insects from the world.

Otherwise, it was hopeless.

But… an Emperor-level Powerhouse was simply not someone Du Nan City could invite!

’Is… is our school’s century-old foundation really going to be destroyed by these tiny insects?’ Chen Xiaozhang’s heart bled as he looked at the fields outside the conference room, which were already beginning to turn yellow and wither.

Amid this desperate atmosphere, the conference room door was gently pushed open. A staff member poked his head in and said cautiously,

“P-Principal Chen, there’s a student outside named Gu Yuexi… she… she says she wants to come in and take a look…”

SWISH!

In an instant, everyone’s gaze in the conference room shot toward the door.

Take a look?

Now of all times? They were in the middle of a raging crisis! A student comes here for a tour?

Wasn’t this just utter nonsense?!

“Tell her to leave!”

The master from the Capital City, who had a fiery temper to begin with, flew into a rage and slammed his hand on the table. “Tell her this is a restricted area of the school! It’s no place for a student! Tell her to get lost! This is ridiculous!”

Although the other experts didn’t say anything, their expressions were also filled with dissatisfaction and irritation.

They were so worried they were about to tear their hair out; they were in no mood to deal with some brat who didn’t know her place.

The staff member flinched at the shouting, shrinking back and looking toward Chen Xiaozhang with a troubled expression.

Chen Xiaozhang was also at his wit’s end. He gave a wry smile and explained to the group,

“Masters, please, calm down, calm down…”

“This Gu Yuexi… her background is a bit special. I can’t just refuse her outright.”

“She just transferred from Jiang City today. Director Zhang Chengye of the Provincial Education Bureau personally led the team that escorted her here. As soon as she arrived, she was placed directly into our school’s Hidden Dragon Class.”

“Moreover, Director Zhang privately told me that this student is connected to the Federation’s highest-level secrets… and that I must, no matter what, satisfy all of her reasonable requests.”

As soon as these words were spoken, the conference room fell silent.

All the experts were stunned.

’Zhang Chengye? That’s the head of the Sui Ming Provincial Education Bureau, a Ninth-Grade Powerhouse who holds real authority!’

’He personally escorted her? She was put directly into the Hidden Dragon Class? And she’s even involved in the Federation’s highest secrets?’

’This… what kind of background does she have?’

“Principal Chen,” an expert from the Xiao Group suddenly thought of something and asked tentatively, “are you talking about… that well-connected student everyone on the school forums has been buzzing about today?”

“A well-connected student?” Chen Xiaozhang was taken aback.

He had been here all day, completely overwhelmed, and hadn’t had any time to look at some school forum.

The expert immediately handed over his phone and quietly summarized the rumors from the forum.

He mentioned her coming from the remote, small city of Jiang City, her strength being only at the First-Grade Middle Stage, and her Contracted Beast being a White-striped Aedes Mosquito. Finally, he emphasized the most explosive speculation—that she was the illegitimate daughter of a top-tier family from the Capital City!

After he finished, the atmosphere in the conference room instantly became… delicate.
