Reincarnated as a Mosquito, I Sucked the Reborn Empress to Tears

Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Arriving in Du Nan, the Landmark Building Turns into a Defense Tower to Attack Outsiders?

「The next morning.」

A military transport plane, its body forged from a special alloy and engraved with intricate array patterns, stood ready on a makeshift runway in Jiang City.

The Provincial Government had dispatched this plane overnight, specifically to escort Gu Yuexi.

Zhang Chengye personally led the escort, which included a full five Seventh-Grade Martial Artists. Such an entourage would be fitting even for a provincial Governor.

With a tremendous roar, the plane shot into the sky and soon vanished into the clouds, heading for Du Nan City several thousand kilometers away.

Inside the cabin.

Gu Yuexi sat quietly by the window. With a thought, she released the Azure Flame Flying Lion cub from her Beast Taming Pouch to let it get some air.

Though only a few days old, the little creature had already grown to over half a meter in length. Its golden fur was growing thicker, and it faintly emitted a scorching aura.

Its Qi Blood had impressively reached the First-Grade Middle Stage!

However, this rapid growth was most pronounced during its youth. The older it got, the slower its progress would become.

For a High-Level Bloodline Demon Beast to reach its peak, it would take at least seven to eight years, and sometimes over a decade.

Of course, with abundant resources for nurturing, this timeframe could be significantly reduced.

’Since I’ve confirmed that I can walk the path of Beast Taming again, I should naturally start raising this little lion cub.’

Gu Yuexi took a piece of flesh from a Second-Grade Demon Beast out of her Storage Pouch and offered it to the cub.

“Eat,” she said calmly.

However, faced with the delicacy Gu Yuexi offered, the little lion merely sniffed it warily before turning its head away, completely ignoring her.

Gu Yuexi: “?”

Just then, the little cub seemed to catch a familiar scent. It snapped its head up and immediately spotted Chu Sheng, who was pretending to be asleep on Gu Yuexi’s shoulder.

“Awoo~! (Mama! Mama!)”

The little cub’s eyes instantly lit up. It scampered over, letting out a fawning whimper as it tried to get the mosquito’s attention.

Chu Sheng stared speechlessly at the idiotic lion that was calling the wrong creature its mother. ’If she tells you to eat, then eat!’ he buzzed impatiently.

“Awoo!”

As if it understood due to their connected bloodlines, the little lion immediately snatched the piece of demon beast meat from Gu Yuexi’s hand and began to devour it.

Gu Yuexi: “…”

’I, the great Beast Taming Empress, can’t even command a single cub? I have to rely on a mosquito to give orders?’

She watched the scene unfold with an expressionless face, her heart a turmoil of mixed feelings.

「A few hours later.」

The plane slowly entered the airspace of Du Nan City.

“Phew… We finally made it.”

Zhang Chengye and the Seventh-Grade Martial Artists all visibly breathed a sigh of relief.

Once they were within Du Nan City’s limits, they were absolutely safe.

The skies above Du Nan City were enveloped by an Emperor-tier Defense Array known as the “Shield of the Celestial Vault,” personally established by the Federation’s most top-notch Array Master!

Forget King-level Powerhouses—not even an Emperor-level Powerhouse in person could hope to breach it easily.

Zhang Chengye walked over to Gu Yuexi, his expression considerably more relaxed. “Gu, now that we’re in Du Nan, you’re pretty much free to do as you please. I’ll arrange accommodations for you.”

“However, I’d still recommend you stay at the school.”

“In this world, besides the Federation’s military bases, the safest places are the top academies. After all, the schools are backed by the Ministry of Education, one of Great Xia’s two major ministries. No one dares to cause trouble there.”

“Furthermore, as one of the top ten high schools in the nation, Du Nan First Middle School’s underground Spirit Gathering Array, Spiritual Qi density, and various Cultivation Resources are all of the highest caliber.”

“Especially when it comes to Spirit Medicine. Du Nan First Middle School has a close partnership with the local pharmaceutical giant, the Xiao Group. Their Spirit Medicine supply is second to none in the entire country.”

Hearing the words “Spirit Medicine,” Chu Sheng instantly perked up.

’Spirit Medicine?’

’Aren’t those just Evolution Points?’

’Go! I have to go! Nobody is going to stop me from going to that school today!’

Zhang Chengye added, “I’ve already spoken with the school. They’ve prepared a large quantity of resources for you as a new student. You can just go and collect them. Consider it an advance on your benefits from the Federation.”

“However, the Federation hopes that you will earn any further resources through your own strength.”

“After all, the Federation wants to cultivate peerless talents who can stand on their own, not… delicate flowers in a greenhouse.”

Gu Yuexi nodded, indicating that she understood.

Zhang Chengye thought for a moment, then couldn’t help but add a word of caution. “There’s one more thing… Once you’re in Du Nan, it’s best not to readily reveal that you’re from Jiang City.”

“The people in Du Nan, how should I put this… they have a strong sense of superiority. They tend to… look down on outsiders, especially people from small, remote places like Jiang City.”

Gu Yuexi nodded in acknowledgment. She was already aware of this.

Although she hadn’t spent much time in Du Nan in her past life, she had heard some of the rumors…

Rumor had it that in the center of Du Nan City stood a landmark, a colossal tower hundreds of meters tall.

An online joke advised against speaking in a local dialect beneath the tower, lest it instantly transform into a defense turret and blast you to smithereens as an invader.

Though just a joke, it was enough to reveal the deep-seated xenophobia and superiority complex of Du Nan’s people.

…

The plane landed smoothly at the military airport in Du Nan City.

After they disembarked, a hover car with special license plates was already waiting for them.

As the vehicle entered the city, the view outside the window was an eye-opener for Chu Sheng.

Skyscrapers soared into the clouds, their surfaces shimmering with flowing runes. Orderly lanes of hover cars filled the sky.

On the ground below, one could occasionally see enormous Contracted Beasts pulling ornate carriages.

The auras of the pedestrians on the street were generally at First-Grade or higher, and he could even spot many Fourth-Grade and Fifth-Grade masters.

This place was a completely different world from Jiang City.

Soon, the hover car pulled to a stop before a magnificent school gate, one that stood on grounds comparable in size to a small town.

“Du Nan Lingwu First Middle School”

The large, gilded characters were written in a flamboyant, cursive script, exuding an invisible pressure.

A middle-aged man in his forties, dressed in a well-fitting suit, was already waiting at the school gate. Upon seeing Zhang Chengye and Gu Yuexi exit the vehicle, he immediately hurried over to greet them, his face wreathed in smiles.

“Director Zhang! Gu! Welcome to Du Nan First Middle School! I’m the school’s Dean of Instruction, Director Zhao!”

Director Zhao’s attitude was exceptionally enthusiastic, even reverent. His gaze, as it fell upon Gu Yuexi, was filled with curiosity and awe.

Just yesterday, a phone call from the principal had yanked him right out of bed.

Over the phone, the principal had used an unprecedentedly solemn tone to inform him that he was to receive a transfer student from Jiang City with the utmost courtesy, as this person was connected to a top-level Federation secret!

This gave Director Zhao quite a scare. He hadn’t slept well all night and had been waiting here since the crack of dawn.

“You’re too kind, Director Zhao.” Zhang Chengye nodded and then took his leave. His mission was complete; the rest was up to the school.

Director Zhao led Gu Yuexi onto campus, offering an enthusiastic introduction as they walked.

“Gu, as the best high school in the province, our Du Nan First Middle School divides its third-year students into different tracks based on their strength: the Ordinary Class, the Elite Class, and the Hidden Dragon Class.”

“Students in the Ordinary Class are only around the First-Grade Late Stage.”

“The requirements for the Elite Class are much higher. You must reach the Peak of First-Grade to be eligible, and there are fewer than two hundred such students in the entire third year.”

“And at the very top is the Hidden Dragon Class.”

At this, Director Zhao’s voice swelled with pride. “The Hidden Dragon Class is our school’s true ace! The entire class has only eight students! Every single one of them is a peerless talent who has already been specially recruited by the top universities, Huaqing and Jing University!”

“The weakest among them is at the Second-Grade Middle Stage, and two have even broken through to the Peak of Second-Grade!”
