Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 940: Chapter 940: Heading Up the Mountain

In Old Yang’s room, he and his wife were also having a chat.

”Are you very happy?” Zhao Xiaoli asked him.

”Yes, I’ve been with Xiao Wei since our teenage years, and now both families are living together, of course I’m happy.”

”I’m happy too. You know I don’t have a mind of my own, so I’ll just listen when it comes to food and drink. It’s pretty good.”

Old Yang was quite satisfied with this aspect of Zhao Xiaoli. Frankly speaking, it meant she was easygoing; to put it harshly, it meant she lacked her own opinions.

”From now on, I’ll just handle the food, drinks, and raising the kids.”

Old Yang thought to himself, ”You never really worried before, and even if you did, it never went smoothly.”

Early the next morning, everyone got up. Zhao Xiaoqiang seemed a bit down. He wasn’t going on the mountain trip this time; he could only watch enviously.

After breakfast, Jiang Xinyu prepared some food for them. They didn’t know when they’d be able to return from the mountain.

Chaoyang and Xiang Dong also came over, and the seven of them set out.

The three young ones didn’t have guns, and Wei Kaiyun was certainly worried about them.

Chaoyang, looking envious, said, ”Master, when will you teach me?”

”Today, if there’s a chance, I’ll teach you.”

Jiang Xinyu and Zhao Xiaoqiang went to class. But the advanced class was on holiday again today. There were only five people in total, and with two gone, the class simply didn’t happen.

Today, it was exactly the time for Jing Chu and Zhao Xiaoli to tidy up their belongings.

Shuanzi and the others knew that Brother Yang and Brother Wei went up the mountain today, and they felt envious. That meant money; with so much divided last time, how could they not want to go?

But they understood there was a reason they weren’t called, so they obediently worked.

Han Xiangjun wasn’t very skilled, but his marksmanship was good. So he had a bit of smug confidence.

”Old Han, you better stay sharp.”

”I know. It’s just wild boars and wolves, right?”

Old Yang chuckled at Wei Kaiyun, preparing to watch Old Han’s blunder.

”It won’t snow today, will it? The weather’s so gloomy.” Shang Zhenkun was a bit worried.

”If not, we should head down the mountain early.” Wei Kaiyun also frowned. Actually, it should’ve snowed already, but it hadn’t yet this year. If the winter wheat stays like this, next year’s harvest will be difficult.

”Master, are we going into the deep forest?” Chaoyang asked.

”Of course, we must go deeper. Otherwise, how can we find good stuff? I really want to see the wild boars around here.” Han Xiangjun immediately cut in.

Their speed was decent, and Wei Kaiyun had brought some tranquilizer this time, hoping not to fire shots, as it could cause trouble.

Today was odd: they reached the spot where they hunted wild boars last time, yet hadn’t seen even a rabbit.

”Looks like we’ll return empty-handed.” Old Yang casually remarked.

”That’s not acceptable; we should go deeper. How can we come back empty-handed? I promised Jianbin we’d bring back wild boars this time.”

Wei Kaiyun had no objections; they had to head back by 2 PM, after all.

”Master, why haven’t we seen even a rabbit? The animals must know the weather’s going to change, and that’s why they’re not out.”

”Possibly. Let’s go further up.”

They continued forward. By now, it was past ten o’clock. ”Old Han, if we haven’t found anything by noon, we’ll head back. This weather is just too strange.”

”Alright, if nothing’s found by noon, we’ll go back.” Han Xiangjun nodded.

”Wait.” Old Yang suddenly halted.

”What’s up?”

Old Yang lay on the ground, then got up after a moment. ”There are quite a few things ahead. Should we go over with just us few?”

”Of course.”

”Old Han, you said it. How many bullets do you have?”

”Relax, I brought fifty extra rounds.”

”Then let’s go. You three stay behind. If things look bad, head back immediately.” Wei Kaiyun instructed them sternly.

All three nodded involuntarily. They were all a bit tense.

The four of them carried guns, bullets already chambered.

Slowly approaching, Han Xiangjun wore a smile. Ten-plus wild boars were eating; it was a patch of wild wheat, with only one smaller boar.

He gestured, and Wei Kaiyun and Old Yang understood his meaning.

Wei Kaiyun was speechless. Why bother with this bunch of wild boars when there was enough meat and money? He didn’t realize Han Xiangjun’s self-esteem issue—his son idolized Wei Kaiyun because Uncle Wei brought back wild boars, so Han Xiangjun had to hunt boars.

Wei Kaiyun pulled back the eager Han Xiangjun, then took sweet pastries from the bag and spread lots of tranquilizer over them, giving careful instructions for them to throw them next to the boars.

Actually, throwing them farther wouldn’t matter; this drug had a deadly attraction to animals.

After receiving instructions, each of the seven people took two pieces. They slowly spread out.

You could say they surrounded the boars. They were very cautious. If they really angered the boars, they’d have to fight.

All fourteen pastries landed near the boars. Five had started eating already, and because they were thrown dispersedly, all the wild boars got some.

The group lay silently on the ground, patiently waiting for the tranquilizer to take effect on the boars. Otherwise, escaping safely might have been impossible.

Han Xiangjun didn’t believe it, but Wei Kaiyun was serious and determined earlier, so he had to listen.

Lying on the ground was tough; it was so cold, but they had no other choice.

After several minutes, some boars started to collapse. Han Xiangjun widened his eyes; this drug was remarkable—knocking out hundreds-of-kilograms boars within minutes wasn’t ordinary.

One after another, all thirteen boars collapsed.

Wei Kaiyun stood up, and the others followed suit. ”This time, the dose is big enough, don’t worry about them waking up, so let’s avoid skinning them on the mountain to prevent trouble.

We need to quickly get them back.”

They still had to make wooden rafts, putting two boars on one raft. But two people couldn’t pull it.

”Guodong, Chaoyang, you both head down the mountain immediately. Go call Shuanzi and the rest up here.”

The two instantly put down their ropes and rushed downhill.

They didn’t dare slow their pace, worried the group up on the mountain might face danger.

The remaining five slowly pulled them down. Even slow beats waiting around.

They hauled three back and quickly returned for the second batch.

By the time they reached the pesticide factory, Guodong and Chaoyang were drenched in sweat. Chaoyang went straight to Shuanzi and whispered the situation. After delegating their tasks, eleven people swiftly followed Chaoyang and Guodong up the mountain.

Shuanzi carried a basket of ropes, afraid they might need them. All eleven faces showed excitement.
