Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 649: 649 Brewing

”Did I hurt you last night? Let me take a look.” Old Yang said, reaching out.

Zhao Xiaoli was embarrassed to death and held Old Yang’s hand. ”It’s nothing, I’m just feeling uncomfortable.”

Old Yang looked at his wife with a flushed face and couldn’t hold himself back. Now it was just the two of them at home, and there was no one else, so Old Yang certainly wouldn’t deny himself.

However, considering his wife’s health, he didn’t go as far as he did last night.

Watching his wife sleeping, he suddenly felt that having a woman made life complete. He now had such days for himself, too.

Brewing wine is quite complicated. Lv Beiguang got to Wang Shulin’s house and diligently scrubbed the large pot several times.

Even though Lv Beiguang was in his late thirties, almost forty, because he wasn’t exposed to the elements and he was very good-looking, he didn’t look old at all. His two children were already fifteen, but he still looked youthful. The women who gathered to watch the excitement were a little moved; who wouldn’t like someone who looks good?

While working, he chatted with Wang Shulin, ”Village Chief Wang, this pot must be clean, not a trace of oil, but these days, there’s not much oil anyway.”

”That’s right, if we can eat meat once a year, that’s already pretty good.”

Lv Beiguang is a meticulous worker, so he washed the sorghum grains at least five times until the water ran clear, then he started cooking.

Only then did he light the fire; the hygiene conditions at home were lacking, so he could only be extra careful.

”Mr. Lv, let me make the fire; it’s too hot today.”

A woman came over, blushing as she spoke. They all knew that Lv Guodong and his siblings didn’t have a mother, which meant Mr. Lv was still single.

The onlookers laughed kindly. The woman speaking, Lu Fengzhen, was a daughter of the village and also Wang Shulin’s cousin. She had married into the village, and her husband had passed away within a year of marriage while working on a reservoir.

Without leaving a child, but their relationship was good then, and even when her family wanted her to remarry, she didn’t, staying alone for several years. When the famine hit, she realized how hard life was for a woman alone, as her in-laws didn’t care for her at all.

That’s when she had thoughts of remarrying. At the time, her in-laws didn’t object, but after surviving those three years, their attitude changed, and they wanted her to remain loyal to her deceased husband.

Lu Fengzhen hadn’t found anyone suitable; it was usually about becoming someone’s stepmother, with older members in the family and children below or marrying a bachelor of dubious character, so she kept delaying.

Luckily, she was capable enough to support herself and even had surplus, but she still didn’t have thoughts of remarrying.

Today, seeing Lv Beiguang, she felt like a young girl again, her heart fluttering.

This Mr. Lv was so handsome, and he was also a worker. Though he had two kids, there was no one else at home except him and his three children.

The two children had grown up and were here, and it was unclear when they might leave.

Even if they were to return, she had observed the kids’ conduct for a while. The village women often gossiped about the intellectual youth, and among the eleven here, only three children were decent, so she decided to be proactive.

Lv Beiguang didn’t even look up. ”No need, I can handle it myself. It’s hot here; you should go rest on the side.”

Lu Fengzhen’s face turned even redder, thinking he was indeed a good man, caring for women like this.

If Lv Beiguang knew what she was thinking, he’d jump up. He simply didn’t like interacting with women.

When the steam began to rise, he checked the time. ”Village Chief Wang, you’ve got to watch the time carefully, best to boil on high for forty minutes.”

Wang Shulin nodded repeatedly. ”Got it, Mr. Lv.”

During this time, he wiped the large vat again and was reassured when it was clean.

By the time Lv Beiguang sealed the large vat, it was already six o’clock.

Wang Shulin noticed what his cousin was thinking, so he invited Lv Beiguang to stay for dinner.

”Thank you, Village Chief Wang, but I won’t stay. It’s rare for me to come over; I want to spend more time with my kids.”

Everyone present understood these words, thinking in their hearts that Lv Beiguang was indeed a dutiful father.

Guodong and Jing Chu had finished their work and returned home, not seeing their dad, realizing he went to brew wine for the village chief.

Jing Chu didn’t see Zhao Xiaoli, so she quickly prepared dinner.

Lv Beiguang came home with Zhao Xiaoqiang; the two kids were lighting the fire. There was a lot of rice left at home, but the braised pork was gone. However, there was still broth, so they planned to make noodle dumplings.

”You two go rest, I’ll do it.”

”Dad, no need. You go wash up; it’ll be done soon.”

”Jing Chu, there are eggs at home, one for each of you. Give Sister Xiaoli two.”

”Okay, got it.”

Guodong had already washed the wild vegetables, ready to be added to the pot once the dumpling soup was done.

Old Yang also came out of the room at this time, and Zhao Xiaoqiang went over, ”Brother-in-law, where’s my sister?”

”She’s in the room; she’ll be out soon.”

Zhao Xiaoqiang immediately went into the room to find his sister.

Zhao Xiaoli sat on the bed, blushing. She had only woken up when Jing Chu and the others came back but was now too embarrassed to go out.

”Sis, are you not feeling well? It’s time to eat; I can bring it to you.”

”No need, I just overslept. I’ll come out to eat.” Even if embarrassed, she couldn’t hide.

Guodong and Jing Chu were young, so it was only Uncle Lv that she felt embarrassed around.

At the table, there was no practice of not speaking while eating, so everyone chatted about what happened today while they ate.

”Sister Xiaoli, you wouldn’t know. This afternoon, Wu Hong and Huang Ying got into a fight. I used to think Huang Ying was gentle, but she didn’t seem to fall short when confronted by someone as brawny as Wu Hong.”

Before Zhao Xiaoli could speak, Lv Beiguang frowned, ”Jing Chu, Guodong, Xiaoli, you three stay away from those intellectual youth.”

”Dad, I won’t interact with them. The three of us moved out to live on our own to avoid them.”

Hearing his daughter’s words, Lv Beiguang was relieved.

Old Yang was eating at the side, listening to them chat.

”Jing Chu, Guodong, you two take a day off tomorrow; let’s go visit Aunt Jiang.”

We were in such a hurry when we came that we didn’t have time to sit and chat with your Aunt Jiang.”

Jing Chu was immediately excited. ”Sure, bro, let’s go request leave soon. Uncle Yang, Sister Xiaoli, are you coming?”

”Yes, I’ve taken several days off for your Sister Xiaoli. It’s good for you to take a few more days off, too, so we can stay there a bit longer. Xiao Wei also has accommodations.”
