Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 634: 634 pick-up station

”Village Chief Li, come in and have a seat.”

”Teacher Jiang, what are you busy with?”

”Village Chief Li, I’m planting some bok choy in the yard to have at home.”

”That’s true, but now isn’t really the time to plant bok choy.

Bok choy isn’t planted like this, let me show you how it’s done.”

Li Yungui indeed proved himself to be an experienced farmer, planting the bok choy evenly and neatly.

Once they finished planting, the tractor also stopped at the main entrance.

Five young men entered. When Li Yungui heard his son and nephews calling the female comrade ”Aunt,” he was taken aback. Is she Old Yang’s wife? It makes sense; otherwise, why would Old Yang work so willingly to build a house?

The tractor drove into the yard. The four of them left with Li Yungui.

”Aunt Jiang, if there’s work, let me do it. Where’s Uncle Wei?”

”He went to the watermelon field. Guodong, go wash up, your face is full of dirt.”

”Okay, I’ll go right now. When are we going to the city? Can I come along? I can help out with some work.” Guodong really missed his dad.

”Tell Uncle Yang and Uncle Wei when you get back.” The vegetables were planted, and just then the three children finished their classes, buzzing around them excitedly.

”Aunt Jiang, what are Shi Jing and the others studying?” Zhao Xiaoli asked.

”They’re studying some knowledge together with Monk Master, who’s training them like scholars of old times.”

Zhao Xiaoli felt relieved. Shi Jing and the others were still young, able to learn other knowledge, but Xiao Qiang was already ten, and this wasn’t suitable for him. She actually hoped that Xiao Qiang could live with her.

But Old Yang seemed to want Xiao Qiang to study here. However, this wasn’t the right place for him.

From the moment Zhao Xiaoli asked this question, Lv Jingchu frowned slightly. She knew what Uncle Yang said earlier in the car. It seemed Sister Xiaoli didn’t want Xiao Qiang to stay here.

Actually, this was pretty good; Uncle Yang was too domineering.

Sister-in-law Liu was making lunch. It would be meat buns, the meat was salted meat, but it should taste good because Jiang Xinyu wasn’t stingy with the oil.

”Aunt Jiang, you should lie down and rest. You look exhausted.”

”Yes, I’m a bit tired now. Aren’t you two hot?” Jiang Xinyu’s forehead was covered with fine beads of sweat.

”It’s okay, definitely not as hot as you.”

”Whenever I move now, I’m drenched in sweat.”

Lv Jingchu found a newspaper, folded it a few times, and fanned Jiang Xinyu.

”Jing Chu, are you two going to the station to pick him up together?”

”No, there’s not enough space. I’ll just wait at home and let my brother pick him up.”

”Remember to remind your brother to put a small cart on the tractor, it’ll make things easier.”

”I will. I wonder how long my dad can stay?”

”Probably not too long, with the distillery collecting grain for the autumn harvest, right?”

”Yes, my dad is always particularly busy in the fall.”

”Jing Chu, having your dad visit is already nice.”

”I just wish I could live with my dad. Even if life is hard, I would be willing.”

”Of course, but the reality doesn’t allow it. Be good, so your dad worries less.”

”Aunt Jiang, I’ll secretly tell you, I’ve thought about how nice it would be if you were my stepmother.”

Jiang Xinyu laughed, ”Your dad and I are just good friends.”

At that moment, Wei Kaiyun returned. After washing up, he entered the room.

The two girls left automatically.

”How was your day, dear?”

”Pretty good, I’m not that delicate. You rest for a bit; Old Yang should be here soon.”

”I’m not tired either. The watermelon vines have grown long, and the cotton is growing well too.”

”It’s all thanks to you.”

”Dear, I feel at peace with life.”

”We’re about to harvest the wheat soon, you’ll be in for some hard work. I wish we had a harvester.”

Jiang Xinyu frowned, she had seen harvesters before, but wasn’t clear on how they worked.

”It’s fine, doing some work is no big deal.”

”It would be nice to have a seeder for wheat.”

”Don’t you think a wheat seeder would be quite simple? I can try it in winter, but I’d have to go to the city, where there’s electricity and I can use a welder.”

”You know how to use a welder?”

”Of course, when I first joined the textile factory, I was in the machinery maintenance team.”

”Haha, you could give it a try, just don’t take too long, okay? Once we harvest the wheat, we’ll plant bok choy, and then after bok choy, we’ll plant wheat again.”

”I heard from Village Chief Li that this year’s wheat fields will be rotated because continuous cropping doesn’t yield much.”

The couple leaned against the kang, chatting away. Old Yang coughed as he walked in.

”It’s time for us to set off.”

”Even if we’re in a hurry, we should eat, right? Lunch is ready, let’s eat first, then head out.”

Sorghum rice porridge and meat buns, everyone was full before they set off.

Old Yang drove with Guodong in front, and Wei Kaiyun followed from a distance.

Upon reaching the city, Old Yang told the two to head to the station, ”Xiao Wei, I’ll go get some meat.”

”Get quite a bit.”

”I know.” Wei Kaiyun checked the time, and the two headed to the building. The tractor parked on the road in front of the building looked quite impressive.

Wei Kaiyun was there to buy sugar, salt, and some snacks. The kids get hungry quickly, so these were to keep them fed during normal times.

Then, he also bought some stationery, before signaling Guodong to the station with him.

”Uncle Wei, where should we put these items?”

”There’s space under the tractor seat, just put them there.”

The two took the small cart down from the tractor bed. Then Wei Kaiyun sent Guodong inside to inquire what time the train might arrive. He stayed by the vehicle to wait.

Trains are never on time. Sometimes they can be hours late.

Soon, Guodong returned. ”Uncle Wei, they said it’ll probably take another hour.”

”Okay, then let’s wait outside for a while.”

”Uncle Wei, I want to wait inside.”

”Sure, go buy a platform ticket, then wait with the cart inside. I’ll go in closer to the time.”

Wei Kaiyun could understand Guodong’s feelings; the boy was still young, forced to leave home, and now knowing his only relative was coming over, of course, he was eager to see him right away.

He sat on the tractor to wait. After about twenty minutes, Old Yang came over.

”Still not here?”

”I estimate it’ll be another hour. How about you? Did you get the meat?”

”Got a whole pig, we’ll split it between our families.”

”That’s great.”

”Xiao Wei, is it possible for Zhao Xiaoli’s brother to study at your home?”

”Sure, as long as the kid’s willing. Old Yang, have you discussed this with Zhao Xiaoli?”

Old Yang was momentarily puzzled, ”Do we need to discuss it? It’s for the kid’s own good.”

Wei Kaiyun chuckled and shook his head, ”But you need their agreement too; be mindful and discuss things together as a couple.”
