Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 623: 623 confirmed

This year, everyone in the village can’t stop smiling; never has this situation occurred. Every year the earliest batch of corn seedlings would be up to the knees while the last field was still not planted.

This has always resulted in an exceptionally long harvest season every autumn.

This year, not only were all the fertile lands planted early, but even the barren lands in the village were utilized.

Everyone is eagerly anticipating the autumn harvest. Maybe this time they will all gather together, but at least the yield will be much higher than in previous years.

Now, all twenty-five acres of land have been sprayed with herbicide. It doesn’t harm the seedlings and doesn’t grow grass; it’s simply amazing.

Li Yungui sought out Wei Kaiyun more than once, hoping the other village lands could also be sprayed.

Wei Kaiyun made it clear upfront that if the herbicide affected the yield, it wasn’t his problem.

Li Yungui knew exactly what Wei Kaiyun was worried about, so he specifically rang the village bell, gathering all the villagers.

Finally, everyone agreed to use herbicides. This way, the village’s able-bodied laborers, led by Wei Kaiyun, began spraying again.

However, Wei Kaiyun also made it clear his time was limited; he is the only labor force at home, and it’s time to thin out the seedlings.

Li Yungui’s wife found several good friends to help, but those twenty-five acres of land weren’t going to be done quickly.

Nevertheless, with six more people, the work progressed much faster than with only three.

After a week of work, they finally completed the task, and the first batch of seedlings could be thinned out.

The village land was allocated to Wei Kaiyun, who proactively approached Li Yungui, suggesting the land should be communal.

Initially, the village allocated the land to Wei Kaiyun to let him figure out a way forward; now that he has found a solution benefiting the whole village and voluntarily made it communal, of course, that’s a good thing.

”Xiao Wei, tomorrow someone will come to deliver stones, and within three days, it will be completed.”

”While we’re not too busy, let’s find someone to build the cellar.”

”Village Chief Li, I was about to find you myself. Now there’s no need for weeding, it’s a good time. I even thought of building the house at the same time.”

”That works; we can spare a lot of labor now. We’ll start as soon as the stones arrive tomorrow.”

”Village Chief, please let everyone know, each person gets a dollar a day without meals. The more people, the better, faster work, and it won’t delay fieldwork.”

”Sure, I understand. How many rooms are you planning to build?”

”I want to expand the yard, widen the entrance so the tractor can enter, and also build three main rooms and six side rooms.”

”Good, I’ll get people right away.” Li Yungui’s intention is to meet the needs of their family as much as possible; after all, they’ve indeed contributed greatly to the village.

Unexpectedly, two carts of stones were delivered that night. They promised to bring two more cars early the next morning.

Thus, work began in full swing here. Every day, at least twenty people were in the yard. So, the cellar and foundation digging happened simultaneously. People were genuine back then, rarely deceitful or lazy.

After a week, all the work was finished. Looking at the yard, which was twice as spacious, the family was quite pleased.

Li Yungui, concerned about the tractor, even thoughtfully built a shed for it.

Taking this opportunity, Wei Kaiyun built two adobe rooms beside the private plot, so there would be a place to stay when the watermelons ripen.

The watermelon vines were growing exceptionally well. By mid-June, it was time to remove the covering film. Due to the ground film, there was little wild grass, mostly growing under the film, but it didn’t affect much.

Every morning, Wei Kaiyun takes a stroll in the field. The family already has two private plots, totaling nearly eight acres.

The cotton’s germination rate was quite high. The cultivated vegetable seedlings could also be planted. Doing a bit each day doesn’t feel tiring.

The chives in the yard had sprouted, and Jiang Xinyu took special care of them, eagerly waiting to eat them.

Watching the thriving fields, Jiang Xinyu felt particularly good.

”Master Yang hasn’t sent news? I wonder how the house construction is going over there?”

”It’s fine; if there’s anything, Old Yang would have come by now.”

”We must definitely repay Master Yang’s kindness in the future. Whether it’s your matters, mine, or the family’s, he’s always been diligent in helping.”

”We’re like brothers tight in adversity.”

After the house was tidied up, Wei Kaiyun drove the tractor with Li Yungui to the county to exchange the diesel tickets provided by the township.

There weren’t many items in the county’s supply and marketing cooperative, but Wei Kaiyun bought as much as he could, considering the large family needed ample supplies.

”Xiao Wei, your relationship with your wife is truly admirable.”

”Yes, my wife is unwaveringly loyal to me.”

Li Yungui also understood that a woman as capable as her still treating a problematic husband with such devotion indicated exemplary character.

”Xiao Wei, in winter, you and your wife still have to teach. The village kids are counting on you.”

”Village Chief Li, that’s not an issue. No matter the work, it’s contributing to the nation. We’ll definitely teach seriously.”

Upon reaching the township, Wei Kaiyun went to the supply and marketing cooperative once more, as it’s not easy to make the trip; it’s best to prepare extra supplies.

After returning home, a few young men came to help carry the diesel barrels. This was repaying the diesel Wei Kaiyun previously used.

Finally, a few barrels were delivered to the brigade’s storehouse.

Jiang Xinyu praised Wei Kaiyun sincerely, seeing the multitude of items he’d purchased.

Being in such a secluded area, making a trip out was truly challenging.

The kids were thrilled to receive the notebooks and pens bought by Dad.

No matter what gift adults give, they can always make the children happy. This shows how children hold an important place in adults’ hearts.

Old Yang had already arranged everything. After the main door was installed, Jing Chu couldn’t wait even for a moment; the three packed their belongings and moved over.

After they left, there was much gossip, but no one dared to speak directly to them.

Old Yang already moved in, returning the borrowed house from the village. He didn’t stay in the main room until Lv Guodong moved over and demanded he do so.

”I’ll go to Xiao Wei’s tomorrow and then head to the city to haul furniture.”

”Uncle Yang, we can’t take leave now.”

”It’s fine. You three think about what else is missing at home, and I’ll bring it this time.”

”Uncle Yang, there’s enough grain at home to last until the grain distribution. We’re not lacking anything else,” Lv Jingchu hurriedly said.

Today was the day for the three of them to move into their new home, so they specifically made dumplings for dinner. Even though the wild vegetable filling wasn’t very tasty, since there was meat inside and it was made with white flour, the four of them enjoyed a comfortable meal.

”Guodong, when you see the carpenter tomorrow, remember to ask him to make two large bath tubs,” Old Yang instructed.
