Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 609: 609 is back

Wei Kaiyun spoke so nicely that everyone was willing to listen. Looking at the weary Xiao Wei, Li Yungui said, ”Everyone, go home and let’s meet in the fields tomorrow. Xiao Wei looks exhausted. Any issues can wait until then.” So, everyone dispersed.

Wei Kaiyun had been away for twelve days, and seeing his pregnant wife and children made him feel truly tired.

Soaking in the bathtub, he felt so comfortable that he didn’t want to get up.

But his stomach was growling, especially when he smelled meat, which made it impossible to sit still.

Sister-in-law Liu prepared meat pancakes and millet porridge for Wei Kaiyun, and the family had the same meal this evening.

Sister-in-law Liu hadn’t cooked such oily dishes before, but this was arranged by Jiang Xinyu, so she obediently made the meat pancakes.

After dinner, Wei Kaiyun lay down directly. These three days and two nights without rest had really exhausted him physically and mentally.

Jiang Xinyu helped tuck him in, letting him lie in the bed and sleep, otherwise, he would have to be woken up again later.

The children, though wanting to be close to Dad, seeing him so tired, went back to Master Shang’s room to listen to storytelling.

Wei Kaiyun woke up in the middle of the night, and seeing his wife sleeping beside him, he snuggled into her bed and embraced her, sighing comfortably. Holding his wife in his arms felt reassuring and happy.

Jiang Xinyu opened her eyes to glance at him, then snuggled further into his arms and continued to sleep.

Early the next morning, Sister-in-law Liu steamed buns. There were no vegetables, so they could only eat buns.

After the children woke up, Wei Kaiyun joined them and accompanied them to practice martial arts outside.

He knew some martial arts too, though not as good as Master Shang. But he wasn’t bad. The two boys looked at Wei Kaiyun with admiration, filling him with satisfaction.

Every father wants to be a towering hero in his children’s minds, and Wei Kaiyun is no exception.

After morning practice, the three children went to ask Master Shang for leave, eager to watch the tractor plowing the fields.

Shang Zhenkun nodded in agreement. They were still young, just forming habits. Since they knew to come and request leave and promised to make up today’s work, he agreed readily.

After breakfast, Wei Kaiyun called a few men from nearby households to help him carry the seeder and backup rotary tiller into the courtyard.

Only then did he lift the three children onto the tractor’s back seat.

The children had been in cars and trains, but this was their first time on a tractor, making it very exciting.

Jiang Xinyu watched their excited faces and smiled as she waved them off.

Along the way, everyone who saw Wei Kaiyun driving the tractor hurriedly followed, wanting to watch.

The three children in the back seat were so excited, with the two boys gesticulating wildly.

”You two be careful and hold tight. Didn’t you see the bright blades behind us? If you get hurt, Mom won’t let us out next time, and she might complain about Dad too.” Jiang Feifei scolded them.

The two brothers listened to their sister and settled down, holding on properly, fearing to anger their mom (Aunt Jiang).

At the fields, Wei Kaiyun parked the tractor and turned off the engine, knowing he would need time to fit the rotary tiller later.

The two boys hopped off by themselves while Wei Kaiyun didn’t bother them, but he insisted on lifting his daughter down himself.

Jiang Feifei, seeing her dad so full of fatherly love, couldn’t help but let him do it; it was truly endearing.

Villagers started arriving gradually, and Wei Kaiyun asked a friend for help, taking half an hour to install the machine.

He walked over to the three kids, ”Are you going to watch here or sit in the back seat?”

”Daddy, can we sit?”

Wei Kaiyun nodded with a smile, ”Of course you can.”

”Uncle Wei, can we sit up there too?” some cautious children asked.

”Yes, but you must sit properly because I’m afraid you might fall off. You can only sit once and then play quietly on the side.”

The kids excitedly nodded. They only cared about getting one ride.

The children scrambled up, but the very young ones weren’t allowed.

Wei Kaiyun used the crank to start the tractor, which puffed and rumbled, with the tilted chimney up front spewing black smoke.

Wei Kaiyun stylishly mounted it, with Jiang Feifei behind him giggling, thinking that dad’s actions resembled those wealthy young men getting into their sports cars.

Wei Kaiyun lowered the rotary tiller and began.

The villagers followed behind the tractor, with some older ones squatting down and inspecting the soil with their hands.

”Gui Zi, this depth is deeper than what a plow can reach, and look at how smooth the way is?”

Li Yungui was all smiles, nodding enthusiastically, ”Yes, it’s really good. This 8,000 yuan was well spent.”

Everyone knew that this whole set cost 8,000. They had decided in the meeting that the village would repay Wei Kaiyun slowly; even though it owned publicly, right now, it’s still personally owned. Only when the money is paid off, it would be public property.

This isn’t 8 yuan, nor 80, this is 8,000 yuan. A family could never earn so much money in a lifetime.

Li Yungui explained clearly that more than half of the tractor’s cost was paid by Old Yang.

So those dissatisfied with Wei Kaiyun gave up their grievances because although Wei Kaiyun might be capable, he didn’t possess the long-standing reputation that Old Yang had in the village. They were still quite afraid of Old Yang.

This row alone was 500 meters long, yet it took only half an hour for a round trip. This meant about two-plus acres could be tilled in an hour, nearly three acres. What concept is this? It means these 25 acres could be fully tilled in a few hours.

At the field’s edge, everyone was thrilled, knowing the village’s land could be planted by the end of May.

Wei Kaiyun parked the tractor and turned off the engine; the rumbling was too annoying, they couldn’t hear anything.

He called the children down and then walked over to Li Yungui.

”Village chief, what do you think of the field tilling?”

Li Yungui patted Wei Kaiyun’s shoulder, ”Great, truly great!”

”That’s good, I’ll continue, aiming to finish by today so we can plant tomorrow. This is my experiment; if it works, all remaining land will be done the same way.”

Li Yungui’s eyes narrowed with laughter, ”Good, we won’t hold you up. I’ll take the three kids back.”

Wei Kaiyun nodded, telling them to be good, and to inform the family before going out to play.

Although Jiang Feifei thought her dad was too wordy, the corners of her mouth still curled up.
