Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 629: 629 conditions

Wang Shulin sucked his teeth and nodded. He understood that what was being said was the truth.

Old Yang was watching the two perform from the side, thinking to himself that these were all clever people.

”Old Li, how about this, you see we’re not using it for free, we’ll pay for it, after all, it’s not produced by ourselves, it’s bought with money.”

”Old Wang, saying it like this really makes me lose face.” Li Yungui sighed, speaking somewhat resentfully.

”Old Li, don’t say that, it’s not a personal matter, I can understand everyone’s opinions.

How about this, we’ll give five yuan per acre, our village still has over five hundred acres of land unplanted. That’s quite a few thousand then.”

Li Yungui sneered inside, thinking to himself: aren’t you just here to take advantage?

”Second brother, this won’t work, the folks will definitely not agree,” Li Yunqiang said with a dejected face beside them.

”Yes, second brother, this really won’t work. A few days ago, my wife’s village offered to add diesel and even gave eight yuan per acre and still no one agreed, why bother? You’ll just get everyone complaining about you.” Captain Li Cunshan said with a bitter face.

Li Yungui sighed, ”But isn’t all the land in our village already planted now? Besides, Village Chief Wang personally came over, how can I refuse him?”

Wang Shulin continued to suck his teeth on the side. Eight yuan per acre and even adding diesel, yet people still didn’t agree?

Old Yang coughed from the side, ”Village Chief Wang, how about this, let Village Chief Li give us a final price, and I’ll take you back to the village to discuss it with everyone.”

Wang Shulin nodded with difficulty, ”Old Li, what do you mean? There’s too much, I can’t make the decision.”

”Old Wang, how about this, I won’t make it hard for you, just eight yuan per acre, with diesel, we can work day and night without stopping. Five hundred acres of land, with plowing and planting, will take about a week, but the land is too dry now and it may take longer.

We call ourselves village chiefs for convenience, but when it comes to big matters, we still have to listen to everyone’s opinions.”

”Eight yuan?”

”Yes. No less, otherwise we won’t be able to pacify the villagers.”

”Alright, I’ll go back and discuss it. If I don’t come over tonight, then it’s settled.”

”Old Wang, have dinner at home before you leave.”

Wang Shulin waved his hand, ”No, I need to hurry, we’re about to enter July. If it’s delayed any longer, the crops won’t be harvestable.”

”Then I won’t hold you back.”

Li Yungui saw Old Yang and the others off.

”Second brother, are we asking for too much?”

”This price was suggested by Brother Cunshan, anyway, they can either take it or leave it. If we ask for too little, they’ll all come after us, what’ll we do then?”

Everyone else nodded in agreement, knowing that there were capable villages around, not just Jin Family Village.

Returning home at noon, Wei Kaiyun talked about the events of the day, mentioning that five yuan per acre isn’t a small amount.

”Haha, if it were me, I’d definitely use it. Once things get easier, I’d find money to buy it myself, and with the potential profit from these five hundred acres, it could be quite a lot.”

”It’s not calculated like that, mainly because they don’t have herbicides, just weeding and thinning themselves with no time. Luckily, the seedling machine doesn’t plant much, and even if there aren’t many seedlings, it’s okay,” Wei Kaiyun said with a smile.

”Li Yungui wouldn’t think to ask you to go over, would he?”

”I told him I couldn’t go, with your big belly, I won’t go anywhere,” Wei Kaiyun gently stroked his wife’s belly. The child would interact with him now and then, making this Wei Kaiyun’s favorite moments.

Over in the car, Wang Shulin sighed, ”Eight yuan is too much, isn’t it?”

Old Yang wouldn’t comment on such matters.

”Old Yang, do you think this price is reasonable?”

”Village Chief Wang, I’ll tell you what I think, make up your own mind.

The yield from one acre of land is about three to five hundred pounds, let’s calculate three hundred pounds, the purchase price is just twelve cents per pound, which is thirty-six yuan. Do you think this is okay?”

”But there aren’t enough people working.”

”Village Chief Wang, didn’t you notice? Their village hasn’t thinned the seedlings yet.”

Wang Shulin slapped his thigh, ”Ah, even without thinning, the plant spacing isn’t small.”

”And then there’s the issue of weeds. Weeding is hard work too.”

Old Yang stopped chiming in. This was their business.

”Old Yang, did you notice, there aren’t many weeds in their village’s fields?”

”Hmm, maybe they weeded them.”

At noon, Xiwang family hoped there was food, since they were busy arguing, they hadn’t gone to Xiao Wei’s house for lunch.

Returning to the village, Old Yang turned down Wang Shulin’s invitation and drove straight home.

At this time, the three of them were eating, somewhat surprised to see Old Yang return.

Zhao Xiaoli immediately stood up, and Jing Chu also went to the kitchen, one lit the fire, the other fried eggs.

They were eating steamed buns with pickles, dried shrimp and wild vegetable soup.

”You three are growing, from now on you can’t just fool around with meals. If your health fails, you’ll have nothing.” All three nodded.

The four sat together eating, and Old Yang shared the eggs with the three of them. Life shouldn’t be lived like this.

After the meal, the four rested for a while, but the three still had to go to work in the afternoon.

Before hearing the sound of the bell, the gate was knocked.

Guodong saw the village chief outside the door, ”Village Chief Wang, come in and sit.”

”Xiao Lv, where is your Uncle Yang?”

”Resting inside.”

Old Yang heard the commotion and stepped out, ”Village Chief Wang, come in and sit.”

”Old Yang, could you go to Li Family Village with me again?”

”Sure. Are we leaving now?”

”Yes. I’m really sorry for troubling you.”

”It’s no trouble, my wife and children are all here, it’s only right for me to do something,” Old Yang replied nicely.

The two girls also came out at this time, greeting Village Chief Wang.

”You’re all good kids, don’t worry, soon you’ll have a couple of days of relaxation.”

The three showed expressions of surprise, which made Wang Shulin happy.

Old Yang briefed everyone before leaving with the village chief.

Reaching Li Family Village, they just saw people heading to work, but they weren’t heading to the fields to farm, instead they were going to their private plots.

Li Yungui actually felt very uneasy inside. Seeing Wang Shulin, he finally felt at ease.

”Old Li, I’ll be direct, eight yuan per acre, we’ll handle the diesel too. But we won’t plant five hundred acres, we have nearly one hundred acres left as wasteland, we’ll just plow those, how about leaving half of the price for us?”

Li Yungui thought for a moment, ”Alright, I agree, for those hundred acres, let’s leave it at four yuan per acre.

But you need to provide meals for the four people on our side.

Old Wang, this is hard labor, if we’re not well-fed, we can’t work, and night shifts require some snacks. They’re all young men, if they go hungry, they won’t work properly.”
