Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 65: 65 recognition

”Yes, what time is the meeting?”

”Nine o’clock, no rush, it’s in the small meeting room on the first floor of the county government.”

”Understood, if there’s nothing else, I’ll go prepare now.”

”Secretary Jiang, you should prepare a bicycle. Is there any difficulty?”

”No, I’ll handle it myself.”

”Hmm, if there’s any issue, come to me. Here, this is a bicycle ticket; should I lend you another three hundred bucks?”

Jiang Xinyu blinked. She had intended to ask Old Yang to exchange some money. It was indeed inconvenient without a bicycle. For close meetings, she can’t trouble Director Wei or Secretary Qian to give her a ride, right? After all, she’s a girl.

Jiang Xinyu took the ticket and money from Wei Kaiyun’s hand. ”Thank you, Director Wei, I’ll repay it as soon as possible.”

”No rush. Don’t always go to Old Yang with good stuff. Keep the good stuff for yourself to eat. You can just repay me ten bucks a month in the future.”

He went on and on, still worried she’d sell off the food and he wouldn’t get any. What a foodie.

With a monthly salary of twenty-eight bucks and supplies with such tickets, repaying ten bucks a month is doable. ”Thank you, Director Wei.”

Jiang Xinyu didn’t fuss about it. This was quite good, even after the disaster passed, fine grains were still in short supply. Keeping them for herself was indeed the most economical.

Jiang Xinyu left the office, checked the time, it was now seven forty. She could now go check the building, then go to the county for the meeting. She shouldn’t be late.

Plans were good, but Qian Jun came in. ”Secretary Jiang, do you have a moment now?”

”I’m leaving at eight thirty to the county for a meeting.”

”There’s enough time. Can you go to the archives room and get the records for the Section Two Group Leader of Workshop Three, Lai Zhiqiang?”

”Sure, I’ll go right away.” Jiang Xinyu knew that not just anyone could access these records. Their secretaries had this privilege.

Hurried over to the archives room. Showed her work ID and retrieved Lai Zhiqiang’s records.

Rushed back to the office after registering. It was already eight ten, she heard Qian Jun reporting the situation in Wei Kaiyun’s office, so she didn’t interrupt, just sat down and waited.

Until eight twenty-five, there was no sign of them coming out, had no choice but to knock on the door.

”Director Wei, Secretary Qian, here is Lai Zhiqiang’s record, I’m heading to the county for the meeting.”

”Okay, no need to hurry, being a bit late is fine.”

Jiang Xinyu nodded and turned to leave, thinking, it’s fine for you to be late, but for a newbie secretary like me, it’s not. What about mingling in this circle in the future?

Checked her notebook and pen, then set off briskly.

Arrived at the county government compound at eight fifty, found the meeting room, with already a few scattered people inside. Seems it wasn’t an important meeting, otherwise, why would there be so few people at this time?

Found a seat at the back, took out a piece of paper to wipe the bench and the table, then sat down.

Looked at the few people in front, none of them looked familiar.

Of course, she had only accompanied the director to one meeting before, and that was a city-wide meeting.

Feeling quite bored, she didn’t feel like going over to chat. After all, there was only one female secretary at the front, the rest were male colleagues, and that female secretary was surrounded by male secretaries, laughing heartily, didn’t want to disturb them.

Took a newspaper out of her bag, which she had wisely brought along.

Since Jiang Xinyu had joined, everyone almost knew she was the new secretary from the textile factory, looking just like a young girl, and she hadn’t come over to join the conversation.

So they all secretly observed her, watching this little girl efficiently clean her seat before sitting down to read the newspaper.

Was she too aloof? Not sociable? Or simply young and shy?

A few more people trickled in gradually, and then three people directly took seats at the leadership platform.

Jiang Xinyu put away the newspaper, preparing to take meeting notes.

”Alright, everyone’s here. Eh? Who’s that unfamiliar face?”

Jiang Xinyu quickly stood up, ”Hello, leader and colleagues, I’m Jiang Xinyu, secretary of the textile factory, pleased to meet everyone.”

”Ah, Comrade Xiao Jiang, please sit.

The main topic of our meeting this time is to discuss the supply issues of your individual enterprises.”

Jiang Xinyu was meticulous in taking notes. Meetings like this usually don’t yield results; they’re just secretaries, with no authority, just going back to report. So meeting notes had to be detailed.

The meeting dragged on till ten forty, primarily with the three leaders talking, first reading documents from above, then county documents, followed by the three leaders’ personal thoughts, finally rallying everyone to increase supply.

Jiang Xinyu tidied up her meeting notes, watched as someone left in front, and followed behind.

”Secretary Jiang, hold on.”

Jiang Xinyu turned to see the only female secretary calling her.

”Hello, Secretary Jiang, let me introduce myself first. I’m She Xiaoyun, secretary of the county’s supply and marketing cooperative.”

”Hello, Secretary She, very pleased to meet you, sorry I didn’t come over to disturb earlier.”

”Haha, it’s no problem, I could tell you’re a shy young girl.

Come, let’s go have lunch. Today all the secretaries present will eat together, sharing equally.”

”Thank you, I’m new here, and would appreciate Secretary She’s guidance in the future.”

”Not a problem at all, we’ll have plenty of opportunities to interact in the future. By the way, did Secretary Qian tell you about the exchange meeting tomorrow afternoon? It’s just a few of us acquaintances, no outsiders, shouldn’t be an issue.”

Jiang Xinyu nodded, ”Secretary Qian mentioned it to me. I was planning to check out the bicycle tickets tomorrow, but I’ve already borrowed one, so I’m not planning to attend tomorrow afternoon, and want to buy a bicycle instead.”

”You don’t have a bicycle yet? I’ll give you a ride later.”

”Okay, thank you, Secretary She, you’re really kind.”

The male colleagues were already waiting outside, and only left riding their bikes after seeing the two female colleagues come out.

Jiang Xinyu sat on the back seat of She Xiaoyun’s bicycle, thinking about getting a twenty-six-sized bike; a twenty-eight is too big, and even if she grows, she can still ride it.

”Secretary She, does our supply and marketing cooperative have bicycles, or do I need to go to the city building?”

”The cooperative has them, including twenty-six women’s bicycles. Two brands, Phoenix and Golden Deer.”

”That’s great, I’ll buy one after lunch, it’s too inconvenient without a bike.” Jiang Xinyu had considered using the bike as an excuse to decline tomorrow’s exchange meeting, mainly because of some internal theft at the textile factory, so she should be cautious.

But Secretary She is the secretary of the supply and marketing cooperative; it would be awkward to still encounter her when buying the bike.

It’s better to be genuine to make friends. This line of work also has its own circle, being excluded truly isn’t beneficial.

”No rush, a bicycle is a big purchase, not many can afford it.”

”Haha, mainly for convenience, can’t walk to every meeting in the future.”
