Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 52: 52 This is happiness

”There’s nothing to bring her.” Tian Shulan helped to lift the big basin. She didn’t stay long and left with the cart.

Jiang Xinyu looked at the large basin full of pig offal and laughed, showing her teeth.

She quickly went to the main room and took out all the basins. First, she set aside the pig liver. In another basin, she placed the pig heart and stomach, and the pig lungs were also placed separately in a basin.

Only the large and small intestines were left in the big basin. She took out a bucket of water to clean the four things she had just separated.

The weather right now wasn’t too concerning for spoilage, but there was no place to store them, so she collected them into the space.

Then she took out flour and baking soda to scrub the large and small intestines. This task is actually quite disgusting, but Jiang Xinyu had done it often in her previous life, so she was only slightly uncomfortable.

She washed them five times in total, using three buckets of water, and finally soaked them in vinegar and clean water.

These offals will be stewed in the coming days. She really couldn’t wait any longer.

After washing, she washed her hands with soap three times and sniffed them; there was no smell left.

Thinking about the meat that could be sold, she immediately moved swiftly.

At this moment, she felt even embarrassed by herself. Truly, she wasn’t the least bit reserved.

By this time, there were only a few left in line for meat. Jiang Xinyu squeezed in front of the meat stand and saw that only the front shoulder was left.

But she didn’t mind; as a child, she could only eat this kind of meat, and it was fine, as long as the lymph was cleaned properly.

”Girl, you arrived just in time, but what’s left is only the neck meat. The village chief told me earlier, fifty cents a pound for you.”

”Alright, thanks, uncle. I’ll wait until you’re done.”

”Oh, right, girl, do you want pig blood? Everyone is reluctant to spend money on it.”

”Those two basins, no one wants them?”

”That’s right, one yuan per basin.”

”Okay, I’ll take them. Uncle, let me send them back first. I’ll return the basins once I’ve emptied them, alright?”

”Okay. Xiangzi, help your sister take them home.”

”Sure, Dad.”

A little dark-skinned boy around ten years old came over, grinning.

The two of them carried a basin each and took them directly back home.

Xiangzi helped to set them on the stove. ”Sis, I’m heading out.”

”Wait a sec, I have something tasty.” Jiang Xinyu went inside to grab a few pieces of fruit candy and handed them to him.

”Ha-ha, this is great, Sis. You can reach out to me if you need anything.”

”Alright. Let’s head out together.”

Jiang Xinyu waited on the side for more than twenty minutes; all the meat was divided.

”Girl, there’s still two jins and six liang left. You can just give me a yuan and three cents for it. Including the pig offal and the two basins of pig blood, give me nine yuan and three cents altogether.”

Jiang Xinyu took out the money and handed it to Zheng Huicheng. ”Uncle, count it.”

”No need, people with knowledge won’t make mistakes.”

She looked at the clean pig bones set aside. ”Uncle, these bones?”

”I almost forgot since you didn’t mention it. Two cents a pound, there’s about forty pounds here. You can just give me eight mao if you want them.”

”I’ll take them, all of them. I can make soup with them.”

Xiangzi didn’t need any instruction and followed Jiang Xinyu with the basin in hand.

”Let’s carry them together.”

”Sis, no need. It’s just this little bit.”

Jiang Xinyu didn’t quite believe him, with his thin arms and legs.

In the end, they both carried them together back home.

This year, when the village slaughtered pigs, the biggest beneficiary was Jiang Xinyu. Although to outsiders, it seemed like she didn’t get much, only Jiang Xinyu herself knew she had made a profit.

The meat on the spine couldn’t be stripped off.

The pig offal cost only three yuan per set, just like getting it for free.

”Xiangzi, can I borrow your dad’s knife?”

”Sis, what do you want to do?”

”Chop these bones.”

”Why didn’t you say so earlier? Let’s carry them back, and my dad will chop them for you. But if you want to borrow the knife, it’s impossible. My dad treasures his knife dearly.”

They carried them back to the field again. ”Dad, wait a moment. My sister wants you to help chop them.”

”Uncle, please help us.”

”No problem. Just tell me how you want them chopped.”

Jiang Xinyu watched him easily chop the spine into small pieces and split the thigh bones in half.

”Sis, look how easily my dad chops. If it were you, you couldn’t have done it.”

Jiang Xinyu was quite envious. ”Yes, indeed, uncle sure is strong.”

After bringing them back, Jiang Xinyu called Xiangzi over and cut off a piece of pig lung.

”Xiangzi. Take this to Auntie, and let her make a dish for Uncle to enjoy with his drink.”

”Sis, you’re so generous. Nowadays, who else would send out food?”

”Take it. I feel Uncle is quite good to me.”

Xiangzi giggled and ran off with the bowl. In no time, he returned the bowl.

Looking at the time, it was getting late, and Jiang Xinyu hurried to fetch water. Because the well was deep, the water wasn’t cold. She filled a vat full of water by the time it was dark.

That night, she enjoyed half a lunchbox of rice, eating braised pork and mixed cabbage hearts.

The house was warm, lying in bed thinking about starting to stew the offal tomorrow.

She felt she should start stewing the meat first. Since it’s all meat flavor, it’s pretty much the same, just sooner than later. Today, she told Tian Shulan she’d invite her for a meal in town, so even if she stewed early, it wouldn’t matter what others said.

A night without dreams, the next day after breakfast, she boiled water, stacked firewood, and went to the Kong Family.

”Is the director at home?”

”Xinyu? Do you need something?”

”Auntie, here’s the thing. I’m stewing meat today and don’t have any spices. I wonder if you have any?”

”Yes, we do. I’ll go get some for you.”

Jiang Xinyu left the Kong Family and went to the neighbor’s house again.

”Auntie, I want to stew meat, but I don’t have any peppercorns. Do you have any?”

”Sure, wait a minute. They’re picked from the mountains.”

There was a reason Jiang Xinyu visited these two families; it was like notifying them.

At home, she was alone, taking out a large piece of pork from the space, washing it clean, and cutting it up.

She took out all the stainless steel basins from the space, eventually filling three big basins with braised pork.

After storing them in the space, she started stewing the ribs.

Finally, she had some time to rest. It was already afternoon, and just smelling the aroma from the pot had filled her; she had no appetite, so she only ate a piece of bread and a can of Eight Treasures porridge.

Someone knocked on the door, ”Auntie, come in and sit for a while?”

”No, I’m just here to tell you that tonight my brother and the others will come over to exchange for yams. As for how to exchange, you can discuss it yourselves.”

”Alright, thank you, auntie.”

”No problem, you carry on.” Zhang Cuihong tried to ignore the meat aroma; it was too tempting.

Once the ribs were cooked, Jiang Xinyu cut shredded cabbage and put it into the broth, making herself a bowl of noodles.

Maybe because she hadn’t had noodles for a long time, they tasted particularly delicious.

She burned a lot of firewood today, so Jiang Xinyu was worried about the kang mat catching fire, and she rolled it up directly.

Then she went to the cellar and put away more than four hundred jins of yams.

Tonight, people will come to exchange, so she must prepare them in advance to avoid any trouble later.
