NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

”What aren’t you telling me?”

Kane’s hand covered hers on his chest.

The lamp had burned low.

Outside the manor, the harbor lines were already being checked for a dawn cast-off, and the fragment sat under Griselda’s ward like a second heart that did not belong to any of them.

”Not yet,” he said.

Misha held his gaze in the near-dark for a long breath.

She didn’t push.

She did not inventory the silence the way she inventoried supply gaps.

Misha only nodded once, the same quiet acceptance she had given the rear papers and the boat schedule, and settled her head against his shoulder with her palm still flat over the place where the unfinished sentence lived.

”When you can,” she murmured.

”When I can.”

They slept like that, joined in the aftermath, her hand on his chest, the recovery flags quiet, the water waiting.

Dawn came clean and cold over Sylvander’s harbor.

The household boarded without ceremony.

Thora moved carefully down the gangplank, ribs wrapped tight under her coat, and refused the arm an elven sailor offered with a look that ended discussion.

Misha checked the pale-wood token against Firlia’s list once and stowed it. Kessa growled at the first roll of the deck.

Griselda took the fragment’s containment case and found a place where the spray would not reach it.

The two elven commanders took their stations with the Queen’s authority already logged.

Kane stood at the rail while the lines came in. He did not look for a long goodbye.

On the wall walk above the harbor, Sira stood with the new bow across her back and the written protocols under her hand.

She didn’t wave.

Kane didn’t either.

One held look across the widening water was enough.

Sira turned and walked the wall toward her post, orange hair bright against the stone, and the rear anchor became a fact instead of an argument.

The boat pulled into the morning.

Sylvander’s repaired gate and the too-ordinary forest fell astern.

Open water took the hull, and the confined reality of the crossing settled over the household like a new set of walls that offered no retreat.

By the second watch the dynamic had already rearranged itself around the things that could not be changed.

Thora sat on a lashed crate near the rail with her compact axe across her knees and her breathing carefully measured.

She couldn’t train or spar.

She could not take a line if something came over the water.

The ape’s fist had bought her a support role she had never asked for, and she hated it with the quiet intensity of a woman who had always solved problems by standing in front of them.

Misha picked up the strategic slack without announcement.

She and the two elven commanders worked scenarios on a board braced against the mast: harbor approaches, recognition protocols, what a neutral Giant authority might demand from a coalition that had never formally touched their stone.

She thought in logistics the way Thora thought in edges.

When Kane passed, she only said, ”We will need a clear speaker when we make landfall. Precedent only. No previous contact on record. Assume they measure by mass and endurance, not by elven courtesy.”

”I will speak,” Kane said.

”You keep the numbers honest.”

”I always do.”

Kessa prowled the deck in short, irritated circuits.

Salt sat in her nose like a wall.

She couldn’t smell range, threat, or the small changes in wind that usually told her more than eyes.

For a tiger-striped fighter who had always trusted the air, the open water was a tactical blindness she refused to name as fear.

”This is wrong,” she muttered when Kane fell into step with her for a stretch of railing.

”Everything smells like the same empty thing. If something comes at us from the water, I will hear it late.”

”Then you watch with your eyes, and you stay close to Griselda’s shadow when she is on the deck,” Kane said.

”The weakness is real. We do not pretend it is not. We plan around it.”

Kessa’s ears flicked once, flat and unhappy.

”I preferred the forest. At least the forest had the decency to try to kill us properly.”

Griselda solved the eye problem the only way she could.

She took height in short aerial recon flights, wings cutting the salt air, and came back with reports that had nothing to do with scent.

Firlia ran the supplies in the background: water, rations, the medical wraps Thora would need if the ribs argued harder, and made the infrastructure so competent it became invisible.

The elven commanders kept the crew from inventing rumors about barbarian households and devil fragments.

The boat held its course toward a blank space on every coalition map.

On the afternoon of the approach, the constraint paid its first small bill.

Misha called a readiness drill on the open deck: boarding order, signal calls, who held the rail if something tried the hull. Kessa took the physical side with a willingness that bordered on relief.

Thora watched from the rail, jaw set, compact axe still across her knees, and said nothing while others practiced motions her body couldn’t yet allow.

When the drill ended, she met Kane’s eyes once, then looked away toward the horizon, where the water had begun to change color under a bank of low cloud.

Kane left her the silence.

There was nothing useful to say about a rib cage that still remembered a corrupted fist.

Near the end of the watch, the system surfaced without being asked.

[Location: Approaching Giant territorial waters]

[Local authority: Neutral]

Kane dismissed the window and looked at the horizon.

In the game, the Giant island had been a locked route he had never fully cleared, endurance, a culture that measured strength by what could still stand after the stone stopped moving.

The meta-knowledge in his head was incomplete, and he knew it.

The reader of that old map and the man on this deck were not the same resource.

Griselda dropped to the deck with a hard beat of wings, salt spray on her feathers, yellow eyes already finding him.

”The island is there,” she said.

”Massive cliffs. A single harbor cut into the rock. From the interior: smoke. Not cooking fires. Something thicker. Wrong color under the cloud.”
