NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

Sira’s mouth twisted.

”I hate it when you are reasonable.”

”I hate it when the forest is.”

A runner in royal colors appeared at the second-ring arch, stopped at the cordon’s edge, and waited to be waved through.

Firlia met him, took the sealed slate, and brought it to Kane without breaking stride.

”Formal summons,” she said.

”High chamber. As soon as the outer approach is under stable control. The Queen already has the first panicked fragments. She wants the full sequence from you before the council hardliners start drafting their own version.”

Kane took the slate, broke the seal, and read the short line.

The language was polite.

Misha closed her current list and tucked the board under her arm.

”Yard is holding. Burns are sequenced. Our household living count is complete—no losses, minor wounds only. Elven losses are still being tallied; the captain will have numbers before we climb.”

She met Kane’s eyes.

”I go with you. The administrative consequences need to be in the room when the strategy is set.”

”Agreed.”

Kane looked once more along the tree line, at the ordinary leaves and the too-quick birdsong and the absence that felt like a held breath.

”Thora has the yard. Kessa stays on the cordon. Sira keeps shafts ready for anything that decides the drop was temporary. Griselda clears the last residual with the warders. Firlia keeps the Menual riders and the outer posts on the same page.”

Thora nodded once, already turning back to the work.

”Bring us an order that makes sense. And if the hardliners try to cancel the southern crossing because a forest scared them, tell them the southern hole does not close itself.”

”I will.”

Kane started toward the second-ring stairs with Misha and Firlia flanking him, Mjoldr clean enough for a queen’s chamber, the smell of the gate still on his clothes.

The high chamber doors opened before they were announced.

Word of the mass drop had already outrun formal runners.

Inside, the light was cooler and cleaner than the yard.

The Elven Queen stood at the map table rather than the throne, fingers resting on the carved line that marked Sylvander’s outer approach.

Two senior counselors flanked her: one already wearing the tight mouth of a man who had decided the morning’s lesson was that barbarians brought disasters with them.

A third chair sat empty; its usual occupant had not been invited.

Kane didn’t bow low.

He set Mjoldr’s butt against the floor and gave the sequence without softening a single hinge.

”Empty camp in the belt. Warm stones that don’t belong on the map. Bone charms issued as anti-attention craft. A runner reached our mark this morning; his band was already dead. Beasts turned first: bears, foxes, snakes, coordinated. Then people. A woman named Asa walked to the gate with yellow eyes, bit the runner, and forced a confirmation. I ended her.”

Everyone listened carefully.

”The wave hit in the hundreds. An elephant under the same corruption broke the outer gate on the second charge. We held the arch, killed the animal, and kept the flood from the inner lanes. At the end, the scarred woman who had spoken for a belt band stood in the tree line with white eyes: possession, not the yellow turn. She dropped. Every corrupted body dropped with her.”

Silence held for a breath after he stopped.

Misha stepped in before the counselors could fill it with their own version.

”Administrative consequences are already moving. Quarantine authority sits with Kane’s household for belt-pattern signs: yellow film, black tracking under the skin, bone-circle charms. Refusals do not enter. The living count for our people is complete: no fatal losses. Elven losses are still being tallied by the gate captains; the numbers will be on your desk before evening. The probe spent a people to measure how fast we close a door. That measurement is now in hostile hands.”

The Queen’s gaze stayed on the map.

”In the last true devil war,” she said quietly, ”the opening move was never the cities. It was the root. Corruption of the World Tree makes every later campaign cheaper for them: wards fail in sequence, the land itself turns unreliable, and coalitions fracture arguing over symptoms while the cause sits under their feet. Today’s attack was not a random frenzy from the trees. It was a hand testing the outer wood.”

She looked up.

”I am ordering immediate inspections along the secondary root lines and a reinforcement of the tree’s inner wards. No public panic language. No council speeches about apocalypse. Work first.”

One of the counselors could not hold his tongue.

”With respect, the southern crossing should be cancelled. The belt has already emptied a massacre onto our approach. If the barbarian takes his strength to the Giants now, he leaves us holding a forest that has learned to wear our dead as tools.”

The second counselor’s voice was thinner and colder.

”Or he leaves entirely. The disasters track his presence. Menual. Berakamon. Now our gate. Perhaps the cleanest ward is distance.”

Kane didn’t raise Mjoldr or his voice.

”The southern hole does not close itself. If the Giants remain unbound when the sky breaks, the first wave will not need a clever probe. It will walk through open ground. I did not bring the belt’s teachers. I found their marks. I am offering a wall, not a curse.”

The Queen lifted a hand, and both counselors shut their mouths.

”The strategic line does not change,” she said.

”The southern crossing still matters. The tree still matters. We will not pretend one erases the other.”

Her eyes settled on Kane.

”But you will not sail on sentiment or on a barbarian’s preferred schedule. The boat leaves only when three conditions are met. First: the outer approach is sealed and under stable control. Second: residual essence is confirmed inert by warders and by your Griselda together. Third: rear protocols are live, with named anchors who hold quarantine and response authority while your main strength is on the water.”

Misha’s pen was already moving.

”Sira for our household. She has the spine for it, and the city knows her face from the walls today. Pair her with a named elven commander of your choosing so the authority is not read as foreign alone. Written protocols, not verbal. Outer posts and Menual both receive the same text.”

Kane looked up.

”Giants matter more. I will finish their visit first before the problem worsens.”
