NTR: Barbarian Harem Conquest

The great council chamber of Milfheim caught the morning light in long, pale shafts that fell across black marble and polished silver.

High windows of colored glass cast shifting patterns on the floor, deep crimson, violet, and cold blue, while the circular table at the center seated every senior minister of the empire.

They were all women.

Every one of them.

Hair silvered by years of command or still dark with the sharp vitality of middle power, faces set in the same careful neutrality that came from generations of ruling without men.

Their gazes fixed on the red-haired barbarian who stood at the open end of the table, and on the princess who stood beside him.

Misha’s golden eyes faced forward.

She did not look down. She did not shift her weight. Her hand rested lightly near Kane’s, not quite touching, yet close enough that the ministers could not miss the quiet claim.

Misha was not ashamed of the man. She stood as his wife.

One of the elder ministers, a tall woman with iron-gray hair bound in a severe coil, spoke first. Her voice carried the measured weight of someone who had survived three succession crises and two border wars.

”Empress... we have to consider everything. Even if the devils were to come, a barbarian will not be enough to fight.”

Kane did not react. His face remained still, the scars along his jaw and throat catching the colored light.

He had expected the words. In an empire that trusted no men, capability alone was never the point.

Trust was the currency they refused to spend on anyone carrying a cock and a northern accent.

Misha’s voice cut cleanly through the silence that followed.

”He’s strong.”

The iron-haired minister’s eyes narrowed.

”Explain strong, princess. We have formidable women of our own.”

”My husband fought the mountain serpent.”

The chamber froze.

No one spoke. No one moved.

The mountain serpent was not a common beast. It was a god’s familiar, an ancient, coiled horror of scale and venom that nested in the high peaks beyond the northern passes. Entire companies had vanished into its territory.

The last confirmed sighting had left three high priestesses dead and a valley poisoned for a decade. That a single barbarian had faced it and lived was the kind of claim that bordered on blasphemy.

A younger minister near the far side of the table found her voice first, thin with disbelief.

”What’s the proof?”

Misha did not raise her voice.

”You can ask the saintess. He made the beast bleed for Griselda, who is a fallen angel outside these walls.”

Kane felt a quiet satisfaction settle under his ribs. His wife had elevated him without embellishment, without begging.

She had spoken the truth and let the weight of it hang in the air. He reached back over his shoulder and drew Mjolnir free.

The axe came free with a hungry sound. Red light bled along the runes carved into the dark metal, the same deep crimson that had flared when he broke Slovia’s restraints the night before.

The moment the weapon cleared its resting place, every minister at the table tensed. Chairs scraped.

Hands drifted toward the ceremonial blades some still carried. The air itself seemed to tighten.

Kane held the axe at his side, blade angled down, the red glow casting faint shadows across the marble.

”I’m not here to fight,” he said. His voice carried easily through the high chamber.

”I ask for your help. This is the empire my wife grew up in. I could have started a war and taken it over the way I took Menual. But...”

He turned his head and looked directly at Slovia.

The empress sat at the head of the table in a high-backed chair of black wood and silver. Her long dark hair, threaded with silver, was bound today in a severe style that left her face clear and unreadable. The marks of the previous night were hidden beneath layered robes of deep violet, yet Kane could still see the faint tension at the corners of her mouth.

”Misha loves her mother.”

Slovia didn’t change her expression. Her posture remained perfect, the same structural authority she had worn for decades.

But something in her eyes cracked, small, almost invisible, like a hairline fracture in tempered glass.

She remembered the day Misha was born.

The weak, fluttering heart that the healers had warned might not last the first winter. The small girl who had still run through the palace corridors on thin legs, following her mother from council to council with relentless, bright-eyed determination.

Even while Slovia buried herself in the work of keeping an empire of distrustful women from tearing itself apart, that small presence had been there, persistent, loving, and fragile.

And what had Slovia done with that love?

She had used it.

She had sent the girl north with a barbarian as payment for a political debt, fully expecting the cold and the violence to finish what a weak heart had started.

Yet the same daughter now stood in this chamber, unashamed, speaking for the man who had kept her alive.

Slovia’s hands remained still on the arms of her chair. The silence stretched long enough that several ministers began to shift.

Then the empress spoke.

”We will not work under you.”

Her voice was calm, clear, and absolute. Every minister turned toward her.

”We will cooperate,” Slovia continued.

”Support when necessary. And if the devils do come out, you can count on us.”

The words landed like a blade set carefully on the table. Not surrender. Not submission.

But the first real opening the empire of women had offered any man in living memory.

Kane inclined his head once.

He slid Mjolnir back into its place across his back. The red light dimmed.

The iron-haired minister looked between empress and barbarian, then to the princess who still stood unbroken at Kane’s side.

”Empress, the risks—”

”Have been weighed,” Slovia cut in, not unkindly but without room for debate.

”The mountain serpent bled. A fallen angel walks outside these walls because of him. My daughter stands here alive and speaking with her own voice. That is more proof than most alliances are built upon. We will not kneel. We will not dissolve the structure that has kept this empire intact. But when the dawn ends and the sky tears open, Milfheim will stand with the force that has already proven it can make gods’ familiars bleed.”
