Super Gene Hunting Ground

This blow Chen Rong dealt Liu Suifeng made him no longer dare to be arrogant and conceited from then on; instead, he planted his feet firmly on the ground and began a much more earnest journey of studying Go.

Finally, after several years, his Go skills reached Great Success; he represented Xuanming Country in the Samsung Cup, took the championship, and from then on his fame shook the world.

After that, Liu Suifeng got to know Chen Rong. The two of them were both under the Go Sage, and at the same time members of the national team. They had plenty of chances to play Go together every day, and Liu Suifeng even made a point of pestering Chen Rong to play with him.

Chen Rong never refused anyone; every time Liu Suifeng asked her for a game, she happily accepted.

Following her Go Sage father for many years, Chen Rong’s refined technique was far above Liu Suifeng’s. She often slaughtered him until he was utterly routed, and along the way tossed in some sarcastic jabs.

”You’re the national junior Go champion—how can you be this bad? I seriously suspect someone let you win that title on purpose.”

At first, when Liu Suifeng heard this he got furious, so angry he wanted to curse her out, even wanted to take a swing at someone.

But once he saw the cold, proud look in Chen Rong’s eyes, and the losing position on the board, he instantly deflated.

Slowly, after hearing it a few more times, Liu Suifeng also grew thick-skinned in front of Chen Rong. He no longer took her words to heart and just kept pestering her to play.

Every now and then he’d talk back with a line:

”One should be kind. You’re a girl—you should be gentle, considerate, understanding, then you’ll be able to marry a good man in the future!”

Every time she heard that, Chen Rong would be so angry she’d roll her eyes at him.

After studying under the Go Sage for half a year, Liu Suifeng finally managed to fight Chen Rong to a draw.

After a year of study, he could completely defeat Chen Rong.

From then on, the one who lost was Chen Rong.

Liu Suifeng was also the type to repay every grudge and settle every score.

”Oh my, Junior Sister Chen Rong, this is not how you play this move. Sigh, girls—long hair, short Go skills. Honestly, whether you learn Go or not doesn’t matter; what’s important is marrying into a good family. Look at the national tournaments—when has a woman ever taken the championship? Women don’t even have the qualification to compete. It’s not discrimination against women, it really is a matter of strength.”

What Liu Suifeng said wasn’t wrong; in all international Go tournaments, the champions were male, and even the participants were practically all men.

Hearing this, Chen Rong angrily reached out and twisted Liu Suifeng’s arm, using quite a bit of force, making him howl in pain.

...

After several years, Chen Rong later also became a rose of the Go world. As the only female representative on the national team, she took part in many international tournaments and achieved rather good results.

After several years of interaction, feelings quietly blossomed between Chen Rong and Liu Suifeng, and they came to like each other.

The two of them could be said to be a talented man and beautiful woman, a golden boy and jade girl, a match made in heaven. Even many media outlets liked to portray them as a couple, and Go lovers nationwide all chimed in, hoping the two of them would be together.

However, for the sake of keeping work simple, the two never publicly announced their relationship.

In their small private circle, many friends already knew the two of them were dating.

...

Everything seemed to be going very well. If no accident had happened, this golden boy and jade girl of the Go world, Liu Suifeng and Chen Rong, would have smoothly stepped into the hall of marriage and happily tied the knot.

However, five years before the great cataclysm on Earth, Liu Suifeng suddenly vanished from the Go world; you couldn’t see a trace of him in any international or domestic Go tournament.

People could only see the beautiful, elegant figure of the Go world’s number-one beauty, Chen Rong, fighting in tournaments everywhere. But from that time on, all the Go fans noticed that the once angelic smile on Chen Rong’s face had lost some of its charm.

Liu Suifeng disappeared overnight; no one knew where he had gone.

Chen Rong didn’t know, the Go Sage didn’t know, even Liu Suifeng’s family and friends didn’t know.

Everyone secretly searched everywhere for Liu Suifeng. For a full two years, he was like he’d evaporated from the human world, leaving not a single clue behind. Even in the room he’d stayed in the day before he disappeared, everything was placed naturally as usual—only the person himself was missing.

After Liu Suifeng went missing, it was as if someone had dug out Chen Rong’s heart. Her Go skills declined sharply as well.

In the end, the Go Sage, with no other choice, told Chen Rong she didn’t need to take part in international or domestic tournaments for the time being, and should instead focus on resting and occasionally help him teach the newly enrolled students at the Chess Institute.

It was right around this time that Yang Xiao came into contact with Chen Rong.

The beautiful, charming, elegant, and noble Chen Rong left an extremely deep impression on Yang Xiao. Just catching a glimpse of Chen Rong’s smile now and then was enough to melt a young boy’s heart.

However, Chen Rong didn’t get to teach Yang Xiao for long. One night, Chen Rong mysteriously disappeared from her own villa, as if she’d evaporated into thin air.

The circumstances of Chen Rong’s disappearance were exactly the same as Liu Suifeng’s. There was no warning, no trace left behind. Her personal belongings in the bedroom were neatly and naturally arranged; they hadn’t even turned off the tap in the bathtub.

After Chen Rong disappeared, the high-level authorities of Xuanming Country dispatched a special investigation team to look into it, but they were completely baffled and the case ended with no result.

...

What Chen Rong never in a million years expected was that she would see her beloved, Liu Suifeng, on another distant planet.

”Senior Brother, you—how can you be here? Am… am I not dreaming? Is this so-called heaven?”

Chen Rong couldn’t believe what she was seeing. It was all too dreamlike.

The two of them held each other tightly in an embrace.

Liu Suifeng said helplessly:

”Junior Sister, your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you. I really am your Senior Brother, Liu Suifeng. And this isn’t heaven; this is just another planet in the universe, a planet similar to Earth...”

Liu Suifeng told Chen Rong how he was captured and taken to Witch Star, and the purpose for which people from the Great Dragon Empire had seized him, and so on.

”Junior Sister, this planet is called Witch Star. The ones who grabbed me are from one of the Imperial states here, called the Great Dragon Empire. Their purpose in capturing me was to have me teach them how to play Go.”

”What? Teach them Go? Isn’t that a bit too over the top? Just to have us teach them Go, they hauled us over from Earth hundreds of light-years away?”

Liu Suifeng then told Chen Rong what he had learned over his more than two years on Witch Star.

”This world is different from Earth. They revere a fantastical civilization based on Genetic Evolution, while our Earth’s Go can greatly assist them in cultivating spiritual power.

The people of the Great Dragon Empire have already been studying our Earth for over a hundred years. Didn’t we used to have legends about aliens on Earth? Some of those were actually the Great Dragon Empire’s Spaceship UFOs.

You could say that for the past hundred-plus years, Earth has always been under the surveillance of the people of Witch Star. It’s just that in recent years they’ve basically finished researching our human civilization on Earth. They’ve almost fully mastered all human scientific knowledge, as well as our civilization, and so on.

They started learning our Go a long time ago.”
