Super Gene Hunting Ground

”Someone came to assassinate us?”

Wang Qian found it unbelievable. At least, Wang Qian, Gong Yu, and Cui Yuan really couldn’t find any reason to be targeted for assassination.

”We usually don’t hold grudges against anyone. This tenth-ranked combat power, Fan Ni, we don’t even know him, and we have no conflict of interest with him at all.”

Cui Yuan rarely felt puzzled.

Yang Xiao smiled faintly and said:

”They didn’t come to assassinate you.”

”Hmm?”

”They came to assassinate me. If I guessed correctly, they were sent by the Qin family.”

”The Qin family?”

”Yes, the richest family in the Flying Leopard Empire, the Qin family. I killed their two sons half a year ago, and they haven’t been able to find a chance for revenge.

I thought this matter had passed, but I didn’t expect the Qin family chose a perfect opportunity to assassinate me during our grand hunting expedition.

If I died in the Flying Leopard Mountain Range, my body would also be devoured by demon beasts, making this look flawless; everyone would assume I was eaten by demon beasts, and wouldn’t suspect the Qin family sent people to assassinate me.”

Yang Xiao said, glanced at everyone, and continued:

”At dawn tomorrow, you should head back to the base camp along the route and reorganize your team and choose a new hunting path, don’t stay with me.”

Wang Qian glanced at Xiao He and asked:

”Yang Xiao, hasn’t the assassin already been killed by us?”

Yang Xiao shook his head:

”This time, the Qin family wouldn’t make it so simple as to only send one person; there are surely other assassins coming. Sticking with me will only get you involved.”

Wang Qian and Cui Yuan nodded.

Xiao Gang looked at Xiao He.

Xiao He pondered for a moment and said:

”Yang Xiao, the situation might not be as dire as you think. Under normal circumstances, unless they send an emperor-level evolver to assassinate you, relying on the strength of our two two-star divine weapons, plus Xiao Gang, any ordinary expert would find it very difficult to kill us.”

”What if the Qin family sends a large number of experts against us, how should we respond?”

Xiao He took out the alarm jade token he carried and said:

”Don’t forget, we each have an alarm jade token. If we activate it, the nearby instructors will come to our rescue.”

Wang Qian slapped her thigh,

”Oh, how did we forget the alarm jade token?”

”We were too nervous earlier, scared out of our wits,” Cui Yuan laughed.

Xiao He continued to reassure:

”Yang Xiao, in the Flying Leopard Mountain Range, their people will also face the threat of demon beasts. It’s not easy for them to come over and pursue us. I think, at least for now, there’s no need to retreat.”

Yang Xiao thought for a moment, nodded, and said:

”Alright, if you’re not afraid of getting involved, then continue to team up. I think ordinary people won’t be able to assassinate us. If we encounter a life-and-death situation, you can run away and activate the alarm jade token.”

Gong Yu, lying on the side, suddenly spoke:

”Since we are a team, we should assist each other in life and death. How can we be selfish and run away, abandoning our companions? We should have at least this sense of camaraderie.”

”That’s right, I think Gong Yu is correct. We are a team and should share blessings and hardships.”

Xiao He gave an approving look to Gong Yu, who was lying on the ground.

Yang Xiao expressed his gratitude, saying:

”Thank you, Brother Gong Yu, and thank you, everyone. Well, let’s see what experts the Qin family sends over. Hmph, it’s just right to use their blood to consecrate the treasure sword in my hand.”

Yang Xiao felt a surge of heroic spirit.

After the fierce battle just now, everyone was so excited that they couldn’t sleep, so they decided not to sleep and brought over wolf meat to roast as a midnight snack.

Yang Xiao placed the extra giant crocodile corpse and giant wolf corpse into the black bottle for refining.

After eating the midnight snack, they chatted for a while until sleepiness gradually crept in.

Xiao Gang yawned and said:

”It’s still early; everyone should rest for a while, otherwise, there won’t be energy during the day.”

Wang Qian glanced at the surrounding dark forest, suddenly saying:

”Do you think there might be assassins or similar people hiding around here? If they’re hidden in the forest and sneak up on us while we’re asleep, wouldn’t we be in danger?”

Yang Xiao nodded and agreed:

”Wang Qian’s right. If that’s the case, I’ll level this surrounding forest.”

”Hmm?”

Everyone was stunned, looking at Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao didn’t respond but activated his divine sense, waving his hands,

”Boom!”

A massive tail, about one to two hundred meters long, appeared in the night sky, exuding a fear-inducing pressure.

Yang Xiao twisted his hands, his divine sense surged, and they heard continuous ”rumble” sounds. The massive monster tail of one to two hundred meters swept in a 360-degree circle around the campfire ground, flattening a two hundred meters wide section of the forest.

Tall trees several tens of meters high snapped and collapsed.

Xiao He and the others gasped in shock. Although Xiao He and Xiao Gang also had the capability to topple the forest within one to two hundred meters, it would be much more troublesome for them compared to Yang Xiao’s effortless manner.

As for Wang Qian and others, their minds were completely shaken.

In contrast, among several masters stealthily lurking in trees several hundred meters away, seeing Yang Xiao’s astonishing move left them equally shocked inside.

It seemed killing Xiao He would require considerable effort.

Yang Xiao clapped his hands and laughed:

”Now we can sleep peacefully. The enemies can’t hide within two hundred meters around us, leaving us with enough warning time. Oh, right, it’s Xiao Gang and Cui Yuan’s turn to keep watch now, it’s past midnight.”

Saying this, Yang Xiao chuckled and squeezed into Cui Yuan’s tent to sleep.

Xiao He smiled at Xiao Gang:

”Hmm, it’s your turn to keep watch, I’m going to sleep too.”

Xiao Gang: ”...”

Cui Yuan, relieved much of his anxiety, immediately grabbed nearby firewood and fueled four piles of campfires to burn brighter.

At around three or four in the morning, Xiao He and Wang Qian took over the watch, replacing Xiao Gang.

The night passed without incident, and when daylight broke, everyone got up to gather around the campfire for breakfast while chatting.

After resting overnight, Gong Yu had recovered mostly and could move freely, though complete recovery would take about three days.

After breakfast, they packed up camp, used ice magic to extinguish the campfire, and continued venturing deeper into the Flying Leopard Mountain Range.

For everyone involved, the hunting in the Flying Leopard Mountain Range did not have a clear purpose; if anything, it was survival. The hunting expedition was essentially a survival challenge,

Through living in the dangerous forest where demon beasts roam for a month, one’s response ability under extreme conditions is greatly enhanced, which is very beneficial in advancing genetic evolution.

With numerous high-level demon beasts in the Flying Leopard Mountain Range, any single team entering the forest would typically face a barrage of attacks, making survival very unlikely.

Yet, now, one or two thousand people from Flying Leopard Academy entering the forest greatly distracted the demon beasts’ focus, reducing the threat to any single team.

This annual hunting expedition organized by Flying Leopard Academy is partly for this reason.

...

Not long after Yang Xiao and others left, the masters concealed in the forest quietly started to move, continuing to follow Yang Xiao.

However, this time, although the actions of the three were very discreet, they seemed aware of each other’s presence.

While they hadn’t seen each other physically, they sensed abnormal spatial fluctuations around them.

All three were suddenly alert,

”Oh, there are others?”

Each of them felt a surge of dread internally, questioning why there were other lurkers nearby they hadn’t detected last night?

Who were these lurking individuals, and what were their intentions?

Were they enemies?

Or were they allies?
