Super Gene Hunting Ground

At dusk, Yang Xiao and the others found an open space in the forest, preparing to camp.

Yang Xiao said:

”Everyone, chop more firewood, prepare four piles of campfires, arrange them in a square, and set up four camping tents.”

Wang Qian asked:

”Aren’t there six of us? Why are there only four tents? Also, why so many campfires?”

Xiao Gang laughed:

”Miss Wang Qian, it sounds like you don’t have much experience with outdoor living. Yang Xiao is right,

with demon beasts roaming outdoors, four campfires can form a small area where our four tents can be placed within the square created by the campfires.

Six tents definitely won’t fit, and there’s no need because among the six of us, there are always two people who need to be on night watch.”

After all, Xiao Gang was someone with rich outdoor living experience and admired Yang Xiao’s arrangements, realizing Yang Xiao wasn’t one of those bookworms he had imagined.

Since the great calamity on Earth began, Yang Xiao had survived through life and death situations, gaining considerable combat experience, far outstripping the survival experiences of Wang Qian and others who spent years in the academy cultivating.

After listening, Wang Qian nodded and then looked up at Xiao He, whispering:

”Well, I’m not used to staying in someone else’s tent.”

Yang Xiao laughed:

”Then set up your own tent, but later you might have to let us use it for a bit.”

Gong Yu on the side said:

”Wang Qian, these are critical times, so there can’t be such particulars.”

Wang Qian smiled wryly.

Surrounding the forest were large trees. Yang Xiao and the others chopped down two trees tens of meters high, then broke the trunks and branches, stacking them into four large piles of campfires, while the remaining firewood was stacked to the side.

Soon, the night enveloped the forest, and Yang Xiao ordered one of the campfires to be lit. From his Space Ring, he took out the massive leopard carcass and each person cut a large piece of meat to roast over the campfire.

Everyone talked while eating. Today, they slaughtered about ten Empire Level demon beasts along the way; Gong Yu, Wang Qian, and Cui Yuan were very excited. This was unimaginable for them, completely beyond their capabilities.

The three excitedly talked about whether they could take first place in the hunting competition.

Xiao Gang calmly said:

”Want first place? That’s impossible. Not to mention the top ten experts on the combat power list, even the top fifty experts hunt more beasts than us each day.

You might not know, right? Among the top fifty experts on the combat power list, many have formed teams, vowing to compete with the top ten for the Dragon Slayer Sword.”

Upon hearing this, Gong Yu and the other three lost heart.

Yang Xiao said:

”Our goal isn’t to compete for the Dragon Slayer Sword. Xiao He and Wang Qian will take turns for night watch, the rest can sleep early. Hmm, Wang Qian, I’ll borrow your tent to sleep for a bit, okay?”

Wang Qian wailed:

”Then don’t dirty my tent, alright? Boo hoo...”

”Such fuss!”

Yang Xiao cursed inwardly, lifted Wang Qian’s tent, and got inside, enveloped by a faint fragrance, he immediately fell asleep.

Gong Yu and Cui Yuan also went to sleep. Xiao Gang said he wasn’t tired, staying up with Xiao He.

After night watch began, Xiao Gang lit the other pile of campfire at the opposite corner of the square, two meters of flames suddenly illuminated the surrounding area.

Wang Qian said:

”Why not light up the other two campfires together?”

”Not necessary for now; it’s just nightfall, and many demon beasts haven’t come out yet. They’ll appear around midnight, and that’s when we light all four campfires.”

In the distance, various monster roars and some tragic cries could be heard from the forest, clearly students from Flying Leopard Academy were battling demon beasts.

Wang Qian trembled slightly, quickly moving closer to sit next to Xiao He.

Xiao He smiled lightly, picking two branches and placing them into the campfire.

...

Fan Ni hid atop a towering tree in the distance, glancing at the burning campfires here, eyes half-closed, intent on seeing whether he had a chance to attack when Yang Xiao was on night watch. With his skills, he could stealthily lie nearby and swiftly resolve Yang Xiao with one sprint.

Currently, within a thousand meters of Yang Xiao’s campsite, several other experts were hidden among the tall trees.

Among them were two scouts sent by Qin Fei from the Qin family to follow Yang Xiao; these two had unique Ghostly Soul Skills, allowing their bodies to blend with the surroundings for invisibility.

However, the gene evolution of these two was only at Empire Level Primary Level, having been discovered by three other experts.

These three experts were the top ten on the Flying Leopard Academy combat power ranking.

The three experts hadn’t noticed each other but discovered the two scouts using Ghostly Soul Skills hiding on the trees.

They ignored these scouts, directly dismissing them, as their target was Xiao He in front.

The three also noticed the hidden Fan Ni. They knew each other.

”Huh, why is Fan Ni here? Was he hired by the other side to assassinate Xiao He too?”

Unclear on the situation, the three decided to wait and see.

Night deepened.

A few wolf-headed humanoid demon beasts watched the campfire from a distance among the forest bushes.

These were giant Fire Wolf demon beasts.

During Flying Leopard Academy’s annual hunting event, many beasts get killed in the Flying Leopard Mountains, causing the Fire Wolf demon beast tribe deep harm, with a batch of giant wolves dying at the hands of Flying Leopard Academy students each year.

”Those damn humans have come again.”

”We must kill them to avenge our deceased Wolf Clan kin.”

”There are only six of them, in the dark, we’re not afraid of them.”

”Wolf King, shall we give the order?”

In the dark, Wolf King’s emerald green eyes moved a bit, speaking calmly:

”No rush, let’s wait until they are tired from night watch and begin to sleep, then we charge in, taking them by surprise and killing them.”

...

Qin family steward Qin Lu, along with the three brothers of Crocodile Ghost, navigated the forest accompanied by three Two-headed Giant Crocodile Demon Beasts of Empire Middle Level Realm.

With the three Giant Crocodiles emitting powerful pressure, ordinary demon beasts dared not come close to attack; any beast sensing their aura would avoid them from afar.

Thus, Qin Lu’s group moved smoothly through the forest.

Following the map Qin Fei pointed out to Qin Lu during the day and Yang Xiao’s group’s direction of activity, Qin Lu’s group was gradually approaching Yang Xiao’s campsite, now about three kilometers away.

”Director Qin, it’s late now, shall we stop and rest a bit?”

Using starlight, Qin Lu glanced at Crocodile Ghost,

”I have a question for you.”

”?”

”Would attacking Yang Xiao’s group with the Two-headed Giant Crocodile Demon Beasts stealthily at night be more successful than during the day?”

”Of course at night, demon beasts are inherently suited for nocturnal activities.”

Qin Lu took out a map, snapped fingers, and a flame appeared between the fingers.

Using the flame’s light, he glanced at the map, saying:

”If my estimation is correct, we are already near Yang Xiao and the others. I’ll fly up to observe them, there should be campfires among their six members, and we can find them by following the fire’s light - they won’t escape.”

After speaking, Qin Lu leaped into the air.

After surveying the area, he spotted the faint flickering campfire light in the distance.
