The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Martin furrowed his brow, instinctively wanting to refuse.

After all, many people wanted his contact information, but he wasn’t one to give it to just anyone.

He also didn’t like being disturbed by others.

But his gaze met the girl’s exceptionally cool eyes, and Martin paused for a moment, hesitated, then quickly agreed.

”Of course, you can.”

Nathalie Quinlan went over to exchange phone numbers with him.

Martin saved her phone number and, after saying a word to her, left first.

...

”Why do you want his phone number?” Khendy Lordon asked slowly after Martin left, his face expressionless but seemingly unhappy.

Nathalie Quinlan didn’t care whether he was happy or not; she turned back, looked at him with raised eyebrows, and said nonchalantly, ”Didn’t you bring me over to introduce us? It’s normal to exchange phone numbers.”

It was indeed very normal!

But this was not Nathalie Quinlan’s usual style.

No matter how deep Martin’s background was, Nathalie wasn’t the type to cling to power and influence.

On the contrary, she would classify people like Martin as ’trouble,’ and Nathalie always disliked trouble!

So her action of asking Martin for his contact information appeared somewhat unusual.

Khendy did not voice any objections.

Nathalie, however, gathered her things, walked up to him, and asked again, ”What made you think of introducing me to Martin?”

Khendy returned to his senses, regained his usual innocent smile, and said harmlessly, ”No special reason.”

He turned his wheelchair, moved away from the dining table, and said slowly, ”I just wanted you to meet more people and have more connections.”

Nathalie gave him a deep look, adjusted her duckbill cap to mask her awkwardness in expressing emotions, and said, ”Thanks.”

It was rare for Khendy to hear the word ’thanks’ from her; he frowned slightly but didn’t ask, ”When are you coming back?”

Nathalie turned her body slightly, understanding he was asking when she would return to the Illegal Zone.

She lowered her eyes in earnest thought and said, ”I’ll consider it after I investigate my mother’s cause of death and finish the tasks at hand.”

It was clear to Khendy that she wasn’t taking this seriously; he was upset and didn’t feel like speaking.

Just then, Nathalie’s phone rang.

It was a call from Vincent Moore.

Nathalie answered casually, ”Hello.”

Vincent had already finished his tasks and called to ask her how much longer she’d be; he told her that he had parked the car outside, waiting for her.

Nathalie was just about ready to go back and look into Martin’s information, so she told him, ”I’ll be out soon.”

Upon hearing she was leaving, Khendy frowned and asked, ”You’re leaving? Valencia Jett is coming over later; aren’t you going with us to the bar for a drink?”

As soon as Nathalie hung up the call, she heard Khendy’s words.

She put her phone away and said, ”I’ve been running around all day and am a bit tired. I’d like to go back early to rest, so I won’t go.”

Khendy noticed the dark circles under her eyes, evident signs of not having rested well; he paused for a moment and asked, ”Are you still taking your medicine?”

He was referring to sleeping pills.

For a long time in McKinney, Nathalie relied on the strong sleeping pills prescribed by Lowie Wilmar to sleep.

Khendy suddenly brought up the medicine.

She realized she hadn’t relied on sleeping pills in quite a while.

Nathalie propped her chin with her hand, lowered her eyes, and pondered when she started to rid herself of the sleeping pills.

Khendy then changed the topic, saying, ”I’m returning to the Illegal Zone tomorrow, at nine in the morning.”
