The Unveiling of Secret Queen

She had just stood up and hadn’t had time to pick up the phone on the table.

Amadeus Yancey’s phone rang.

He stood up first, picked up the phone and said to everyone at the table, ”Excuse me, I need to take this call.”

Then he didn’t go far and answered the call in a corner of the private room.

It took less than a minute.

He put down the phone with a slightly somber expression and walked toward Nathalie Quinlan, whispering, ”Something happened, Caryn Zachmann has taken Mr. Zachmann hostage.”

”What?!” Leonardy Zachmann lost his composure and knocked over a glass of water, standing up suddenly.

Hendrik Zachmann was also shocked.

Audrick Zachmann cursed directly, ”Damn,” and picked up his jacket without another word, ”I’m going to find her.”

Nathalie Quinlan seemed calmer than them, looking up with no emotion on her face, but her dark eyes were extremely rebellious: ”Heh, I guess the person she wants to see is me.”

”...” Amadeus Yancey saw her reaction and knew Caryn Zachmann had dug her own grave this time. He quickly arranged, ”I’ll let Alfred Garland drive over.”

”Alright.”

Nathalie responded softly, got up and walked out, making a phone call as she left.

...

At the nursing home in Beijing.

Mr. Zachmann was dressed in a Tang costume, looking very festive, but at the moment he was slightly closing his eyes, seemingly unwilling to speak, and his expression showed some disappointment.

At the same time, the nursing home’s staff were gathered around, trying hard to pacify the mentally crumbling girl.

”Ms. Zachmann, please don’t do this, let’s talk it out, please put the knife down.”

”Mr. Zachmann is not in good health, you’ll scare him like this.”

”Ms. Zachmann...”

Caryn Zachmann was extremely on edge, having been hiding all day which had her nerves stretched to the limit. Now her eyes were bloodshot as she waved the knife, shouting hoarsely, ”Don’t come near me!”

Ericko Zachmann’s attending doctor was afraid she might accidentally harm the elderly man, so they had to motion for everyone to step back while softly advising her, ”Ms. Zachmann, please calm down, you can state your demands, just don’t harm Mr. Zachmann.”

Caryn Zachmann gripped the knife tightly, her gaze sinister, and shrieked, ”I want to see Nathalie Quinlan, call her.”

It was only at this moment that the old man, who had kept his eyes closed, suddenly opened them and sternly stopped the nurse about to make the call, ”Don’t you dare!”

Caryn Zachmann seemed incredulous, biting her pale lips hard, her bloodshot eyes fixed on the threatened Mr. Zachmann, unable to hide her anger and disappointment, ”Grandpa!”

”If you want to do something, come at me, I’m old and have lived long enough, don’t think you can use me to threaten Nathalie.” Mr. Zachmann, with his hair grayed, spoke in a loud and firm voice, ”If I taught you to be this way, then it’s my fault too. If you’re dissatisfied, you can take it out on me, I’m ready for it.”

Caryn Zachmann was both shocked and angry. Seeing the nurse obediently refraining from calling Nathalie Quinlan, she gritted her teeth and threatened, ”Grandpa, I’ve reached a dead end, if I don’t fight back now, I’ll die in prison.”

”You still protect her even now. She’s your granddaughter, am I not?! I grew up with you, by your side. And her, how long have you known her, yet you only have eyes for her, is that fair to me?”

Mr. Zachmann seemed unwilling to answer such questions, closing his eyes in exhaustion and saying, ”I’ve said it, if you have any grievances, take them out on me. I’m already halfway into the grave, a few more days don’t matter. Leave your sister out of it.”

”Even now, you’d rather risk your life to protect her.” Caryn Zachmann was furious, glaring at the nursing home’s staff with red eyes, her emotions rising again: ”I’ll say it one more time, call Nathalie Quinlan! Otherwise, I can’t guarantee what I’ll do!”
