The Unveiling of Secret Queen

Chapter 1155: Chapter 1155: What others have, our Nathalie must have too

Nathalie Quinlan frowned slightly as she calculated her schedule after classes started. Once she was sure she could make time, she simply replied to Stephanie Tanzil’s message, agreeing to help write the theme song.

Just as she finished replying to Stephanie’s message, she heard Mr. Zachmann calling her.

Nathalie tucked away the defiant glint in her gaze, put away her phone, and strode toward Mr. Zachmann. ”Grandpa, do you need something?”

”Yes.” Mr. Zachmann lovingly reached out to pat the back of the girl’s hand, his face full of tenderness. ”Do you have time this afternoon? I’d like to take you to the mall to shop for some clothes.”

Nathalie squinted her dark eyes slightly, honestly not interested in shopping at the mall. But seeing the enthusiastic expression on Mr. Zachmann’s face, she couldn’t bring herself to refuse.

”I...”

”I know you don’t like this, but young women should seize the chance to buy pretty clothes while they’re young. Your cousin already has her own walk-in wardrobe, filled with clothes and bags. But since you’ve come back, I haven’t bought you anything yet.”

Mr. Zachmann noticed her indifferent demeanor, sighed deeply, feeling quite distressed and even a little guilty.

”Whatever others have, our Nathalie should have too. Do you have time this afternoon? If you do, we can make use of the nice weather and go for a stroll.”

”We’ll just browse; you can look and see if there’s anything you like first. If there is, we’ll buy it. If you don’t like anything, we don’t have to buy. Sound good?”

Nathalie’s cool, pale hand rested in her pocket, and her dark eyes observed Mr. Zachmann’s overly indulgent attitude, leaving her helpless. She pursed her lips and was just about to say ”Alright.”

Suddenly, her phone—just tucked away—started ringing.

Nathalie frowned slightly and said to the eagerly expectant elder, ”Hold on, let me take this call.”

Mr. Zachmann nodded kindly. ”No rush, go ahead.”

”Okay.”

Nathalie took out her phone, glanced at the caller ID, and her expression shifted, showing clear surprise.

Lowie Wilmar calling her—why?

She held the phone and moved to one side.

Mr. Zachmann was still speaking with Stanley Zachmann. ”And you, you’re a grown man but have no idea how to care for your daughter. Nathalie’s been in Beijing for how long now? You’re constantly busy with work and I’ve yet to see you take her shopping for clothes or bags. You only think about taking her out to eat and drink. Girls don’t adore those things nearly as much as they love pretty accessories and shoes. You, I really don’t know what to say about you! With this family separation, Nathalie’s only left with you as her kin. If you don’t take this seriously, can you even face her mother? Face Lynette Kingsley?”

Stanley Zachmann, a man in his forties, was getting scolded for all he was worth out on the street by his father. He didn’t dare say a word back, feeling rather aggrieved. ”Those projects were really important. I...”

”Projects are more important than Nathalie?” Mr. Zachmann wasn’t having it, his face stern and uncompromising. ”If I weren’t already halfway to the grave, I wouldn’t even need you to look after Nathalie. I’d take care of her myself! Do I even need unreliable people like you? You as a father don’t even measure up to Audrick Zachmann!”

Stanley: ”...”

After finishing his scolding, Mr. Zachmann furrowed his brow again. Suddenly lowering his voice, he spoke softly, ”It was your insistence to separate the family. You also know our family’s circumstances. For years, you’ve ignored the matters of our household. Now, separating from Room Two at this time basically means... severing ties with this circle.”

”You’re my son, I understand your character. You don’t care much for these things, but have you thought about it? Nathalie is still young. If you detach from this circle, it will inherently slow down Nathalie, and the connections she can access will be far fewer compared to Caryn...”
