Ms. Diviner: The Prodigal Daughter's Return

Chapter 444: 444 who is a burden is not certain yet

Upon seeing Qu Fengting and the others, the crowd ahead automatically cleared a path, sending off their pompous entrance into the teleportation gate. Before leaving, Qu fengting even turned back to give Mu Hanyan a cold glance—it was as if he was looking at a dead person.

”Young Master Mu, let’s go as well,” Wu Qiuyun, who had somehow made his way to Mu Hanyan’s side, looked at the disappearing figures of Qu Fengting and his group, and spoke with a solemn expression.

”Let’s go,” Mu Hanyan said, filled with curiosity as she too moved forward.

”I have a few friends here, should we call them to join us?” Wu Qiuyun asked with some indecision.

Like Qu Fengting, he had his own agenda in participating in this trial. Logically, gathering more people would mean more strength, but if there were too many, the spoils might not be enough to go around.

Mu Hanyan noticed the conflict and turmoil in Wu Qiuyun’s expression, and felt a slight surprise. In this world, there were no shortages of people with wolf-like hearts and dog-like lungs who would sell out even their closest kin for profit. Yet, Wu Qiuyun was actually agonizing over the problem of insufficient benefits to share, which was indeed rare.

Although it seemed a bit selfish on the surface, given his family background, the fact that he could still consider sharing the benefits in the face of great temptation, rather than betraying or outright killing, was already quite commendable.

Mu Hanyan had originally worried about inadvertently being betrayed by him; now, she felt much more assured. After all, nobody is perfect—she never expected to meet only saints.

In contrast, Mu Hanyan felt a secret sadness for Mu Feng. Although she did not know what he had experienced in his past life, connecting the fragments revealed by Wu Qiuyun, she could guess it was either being used by Qu Fengting as a scapegoat and sent to his death at a critical moment, or Qu Fengting had betrayed him after crossing the bridge, crippling him to eliminate future troubles.

However, as far as she knew, Qu Fengting didn’t achieve anything significant afterward, so the former scenario was more likely. Either way, Mu Feng’s fragile heart must have been greatly impacted, which is probably why he had never recovered.

Wu Qiuyun had no idea that his moment of hesitation had led Mu Hanyan to think so much and even develop a bit of a favorable impression of him. If he knew, he might be moved to tears.

”No need, just the few of us are enough. If the strength is not enough, more people won’t be of help; they will only be a burden,” Mu Hanyan stopped Wu Qiuyun’s further hesitation and stated decisively.

With her current strength as a Great Swordsman, even Qu Fengting might not be stronger than her, so why bother carrying burdens?

”True,” Wu Qiuyun nodded, though his heart somewhat disagreed.

Still calling others a burden, as if you could do much better. If Wu Songxing hadn’t praised Mu Hanyan non-stop, sparking his curiosity, and if he hadn’t encountered her at the inn where, after observing, he felt that Mu Hanyan—unlike the typical playboy described in rumors—exhibited the openness and generosity characteristic of a noble family’s son and could be trusted, he wouldn’t have chosen to form an alliance with her.

Temperament aside, strength is another matter. Even if the reputation of being a playboy is a misunderstanding, the label of being a born wastrel, as pronounced by a Star Divination Master, cannot be false; he simply didn’t believe Mu Hanyan could possess real strength.

Sigh, she’s still the direct lineage from the Mu Family in the Capital. Even after being sent to a small place like Heishi City, the arrogance and pride are unavoidable. Wu Qiuyun secretly worried, hoping she wouldn’t become arrogant and ruin everything.
