Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 558: Chapter 558: Foolish Husband 51

Wei Yuanfang’s face was grim. ”What do you mean? As your brother, are you accusing me of pocketing your dowry money? Is that what you think of me?”

Yuan Chun rolled her eyes at him. ”You might not be thinking that, but what about Zhao Dongxiu? Don’t tell me that after being married to her for so long, you still haven’t figured out what kind of person she is beside you.”

She patted the trunk and said, ”I feel secure only when I keep my dowry money myself. I don’t want it benefiting someone else.”

Wei Yuanfang was instantly at a loss for words.

Having shared a bed with her for years, he certainly knew Zhao Dongxiu valued money highly. Once money went into her pocket, getting it back was harder than climbing to heaven.

Zhao Dongxiu was the kind of person who would rather skip three meals a day just to save money.

If he brought his sister’s dowry money home and Zhao Dongxiu took it, he wasn’t confident he could retrieve it again.

Wei Yuanfang immediately stopped talking about the dowry money.

Though he was uneasy and a bit pained about such a large sum being in his sister’s hands, he couldn’t grab it from her if she didn’t offer it.

Forget it. Whatever. It would all end up with their parents in the end anyway.

Wei Yuanfang thought that Yuan Chun would hand over the money to Mr. Wei and Mrs. Wei.

But Mr. Wei and Mrs. Wei had already advised her to keep her own dowry money as part of her trousseau for when she joined her husband’s household.

Wei Yuanfang stayed at his sister’s place all day and only returned home in the evening.

As soon as he walked in the door, Zhao Dongxiu questioned him, ”Wei Yuanfang, tell me, is your sister marrying into Vice Factory Director Chen’s family? Did the Chen Family bring betrothal and dowry gifts to your sister today?”

Wei Yuanfang merely hummed in response and silently headed towards the room.

Zhao Dongxiu grabbed him and scolded him angrily, ”Wei Yuanfang, are you even a man? Your sister’s betrothal and dowry gifts should come to our house, right? She hasn’t married yet; our house is her mother’s family. Not sending the gifts here but to her dormitory, what’s that supposed to mean? Does her maternal family mean nothing to her? Does she not see us, her brother and sister-in-law?”

Thinking of the neighbors gossiping about how the Chen Family brought ”three turns and a sound” and a thick stack of money to that little tramp Wei Yuanchun, Zhao Dongxiu felt her heart ache bitterly.

Those betrothal and dowry gifts were from the Chen Family to the Wei Family, not to that little tramp Wei Yuanchun. Why should she keep them? They should be brought here and kept by her brother and sister-in-law, as was proper and reasonable.

Zhao Dongxiu said, ”Wei Yuanfang, go find your sister tomorrow and get back those betrothal and dowry gifts. When a girl’s married off, the betrothal and dowry gifts go to her family. Who gives it directly to the girl? That’s not the way it’s done.”

Zhao Dongxiu became more impassioned as she spoke. ”Wei Yuanfang, do you hear me? You...”

Wei Yuanfang, growing impatient, interrupted her, ”Shut up. We are merely Yuan Chun’s brother and sister-in-law, not her parents. If you want her betrothal and dowry money, forget about it. Her wedding involves my parents, not us.”

Zhao Dongxiu turned red and then green with anger. ”They say the eldest sister-in-law is like a mother. Why shouldn’t I be involved in her wedding?”

Wei Yuanfang sneered and mocked, ”You already kicked my sister out and severed ties with her. How do you have the nerve to call yourself her sister-in-law?”

”What’s the matter? You were dismissed and no longer needed my sister to take care of Da Bao, so you chased her away. Now you see some benefit, and you try to stick yourself to it. I say, Zhao Dongxiu, when did you become so shameless?”
