Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 554: Chapter 554: Foolish Husband 47

Just as the second aunt was acting as a matchmaker for Sanbao and Yuan Chun, the marriage of Guo Changming was also settled.

His fiancée, the same as in his previous life, was Li Xiaoyan, the daughter of the head of the first workshop of the steel factory and also Guo Changming’s master’s immediate superior.

Since the matter of Guo Changming’s official position was urgent, the wedding date was also set quickly, to be held next weekend.

In this era, people didn’t hold wedding banquets. They would get the marriage certificate, buy some candies, and give a few to people who came with gifts. Then they would publicly read a small red booklet, and that was considered being married.

Of course, the ”three rounds and a sound,” thirty-six legs, and dowry money couldn’t be omitted.

Although Guo Changming’s parents both worked, they had many sons, and the family’s savings couldn’t be drained by just this one son. So the Guo Family only bought Li Xiaoyan a watch, sixty yuan in dowry, and a new set of furniture.

The Li family of course wasn’t happy, but what else could they do. Li Xiaoyan fell in love with Guo Changming at first sight and was determined to marry him.

Even with the dowry money and a watch, she would still marry Guo Changming even if she had to stick herself to him, so the Li family could only swallow their dissatisfaction.

Another weekend came.

Yuan Chun nodded and agreed to the marriage proposal.

Mrs. Chen was so happy that she immediately entrusted the second aunt, also having Yuan Chun take two days off, and a large group of people went to Dongpu Village for the proposal.

Yuan Chun had already written to Mr. Wei and Mrs. Wei about her relationship with Sanbao, explaining Sanbao’s situation clearly and telling her parents she genuinely liked Sanbao and wasn’t being coerced.

Mr. Wei and Mrs. Wei received the letter and couldn’t understand why their outstanding daughter would be interested in a man of low intelligence, but after seeing Sanbao, they thought he was truly handsome.

He seemed like a celestial being, untouched by the mundane world.

Moreover, Sanbao was obedient, well-behaved, and sensible, making it easy for people to like him.

After spending a day with him, Mr. Wei and Mrs. Wei couldn’t bear to let him go and urged their daughter, ”You shouldn’t bully Sanbao. He’s well-behaved and sensible and won’t make you angry. You need to take good care of him.”

Yuan Chun didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, ”Dad, Mom, am I still your biological daughter? You’re already siding with your son-in-law so quickly?”

Mrs. Wei smacked her, ”You silly girl, how can you compare to Sanbao? You’re so much older, and you’re still jealous of him. Have some shame.”

”Alright, I’ll take good care of your son-in-law.”

The marriage was settled, the wedding date set for a month later. Yuan Chun would return to hold a wedding, then hold another one in the provincial city.

The Chen Family would cover all the wedding expenses.

The Chen Family would also prepare ”three rounds and a sound,” thirty-six legs, four outfits, and a dowry of six hundred and eighty-eight yuan for Yuan Chun.

This was all proposed by Mrs. Chen.

Mr. Wei and Mrs. Wei were shocked by such a large dowry.

However, thinking about their daughter marrying the intellectually challenged Sanbao, who couldn’t earn money or support the family, and that the household would rely solely on their daughter, the words to reduce the dowry stayed in their mouths untold.

Mr. Wei and Mrs. Wei decided that the betrothal gifts and dowry money from the Chen Family would all go with their daughter to the in-laws, to be used in case their daughter needed money in the future.

Of course, Mr. Wei and Mrs. Wei unanimously decided not to tell their son and daughter-in-law about the amount of Yuan Chun’s betrothal gifts and dowry. If that unfilial couple knew Yuan Chun’s dowry was so high and got any ideas, there would undoubtedly be a big upheaval in the family.

Mr. Wei and Mrs. Wei didn’t want to see their son and daughter-in-law’s ugly faces, so it’s better to have one less issue to deal with.
