Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 285: Chapter 187: Forcing Hardship, Monsters and Demons (Part 2)

”You’re saying our base can produce diesel?”

”That’s right. According to them, it’s a Diesel Tree that the leader enhanced. The oil pressed from its fruit can be used directly by ships!”

”That’s incredible! So are you guys going over there now?”

”Honestly, it’s not so hot here that we can’t bear it. We can just take our shirts off, drink some water, and make do!”

”Exactly. If the leader found out we were all holed up on the speedboats, wouldn’t he think we’re just seeking comfort? We just got here; we need to make a good impression on him!”

Everyone nodded in agreement and unanimously decided not to go to the ships to escape the heat for now.

At this moment, the vast majority of survivors were living in dire straits. If they knew that Tu Chong and his group had a cool place to go and chose not to, they would surely be overcome with envy, jealousy, and hatred!

In the Aircraft Carrier Base, the survivors had reverted to a primitive state. Aside from clothing to cover their vital parts, they had taken everything else off.

They had no choice; it was simply too hot. According to data from the Aircraft Carrier Base’s environmental monitoring department, the current outdoor temperature was already approaching forty degrees Celsius!

Even the falling rain was nearly that hot!

If they weren’t worried about the toxins entering their bodies, they could have just taken a hot shower outdoors!

But ever since learning the rain contained toxins, none of the survivors dared to stand in it recklessly. They hid in all sorts of simple shelters, bare-chested and constantly sweating!

Soon, some people began showing symptoms of dehydration!

”Captain, many of the survivors can’t hold on much longer. Should we distribute the purified water now?” his secretary asked from the side.

Wang Jun nodded slightly. ”Issue a notice: Distribute two hundred milliliters per person. Tell everyone that the base’s purified water supply is extremely tight, and that they need to use it sparingly!”

”Yes, sir!” The secretary turned and left.

Soon, the notice was broadcast throughout the Aircraft Carrier Base.

”To all survivors of the Aircraft Carrier Base, to combat the extreme heat, every survivor may go to a nearby water distribution point to collect two hundred milliliters of purified water. Due to the contaminated rain, water resources are scarce. Everyone must conserve water. If we work together, we can surely overcome this crisis!”

Hearing this announcement, the eyes of the vast majority of survivors lit up.

Regardless of the amount, at least the higher-ups were distributing something. Everyone knew the Aircraft Carrier Base had a huge population. Even at just two hundred milliliters per person, the total would be over ten tons of purified water!

But there were always some people among them—whether genuinely stupid or with ulterior motives—who had to spread negative talk.

”What good is two hundred milliliters? That’s barely a mouthful! I’ve sweated out more than two hundred milliliters already!”

”Yeah, they give us two hundred milliliters each, but those soldiers can drink as much as they want without any restrictions! It’s so unfair!”

”I have a buddy at the Xi’an Base. Their base hands out five hundred milliliters every two hours. What we’re getting at the Aircraft Carrier Base is just too little. After all, we’re supposed to be the number one base in the Dragon Country!”

Meanwhile, in the store managers’ group chat, Long Zhan asked in confusion, ”Two hundred milliliters doesn’t seem very useful, does it? On the regional channel, some bases are already using purified water to attract survivors!”

Ji Yizhi explained with a smile, ”Two hundred milliliters certainly won’t quench your thirst, but it is quite useful. Let’s just see how many ghouls and goblins come crawling out of the woodwork!”

Long Zhan was stunned for a moment. ”Ghouls and goblins? Do people like that still exist at a time like this?”

”There’s never a shortage of them, no matter the time!” Wang Jun said with a sigh. ”For now, we’ll root out as many as we can.”

Long Zhan nodded. ”I really don’t get what they gain by sucking up to those foreign bases at a time like this!”

”It used to be for wealth and money. Now, it’s for all kinds of resources!” Wang Jun said helplessly.

”But I haven’t seen anyone actually sending over any resources,” Long Zhan said, his brows furrowed tightly.

Wang Jun sneered. ”In the current situation, they’re probably just making empty promises. In the end, they might even end up losing everything themselves!”

”And people actually believe those empty promises? I really can’t tell if they’re smart or just stupid!” Long Zhan pursed his lips.

Just as Wang Jun and the others were discussing this, a portion of the survivors had already been incited!

”We demand five hundred milliliters of purified water per person every two hours!”

”The three aircraft carrier fleets have so much water purification equipment! They can definitely spare this little amount!”

”We demand equality for all! We should get to drink as much as the soldiers do!”

Some of the more rational survivors couldn’t help but argue back.

”Are you guys idiots? You’ll believe anything anyone says? By that logic, I could claim we have unlimited water on the Aircraft Carrier Base!”

”Exactly! If you think some other base is so great, why don’t you just go there? What are you still doing holed up in the Aircraft Carrier Base?”

”That’s right! The Aircraft Carrier Base isn’t restricting your freedom. If you want to go somewhere else, just leave. Stop trying to stir up trouble here, okay?”

”If the Aircraft Carrier Base provided a speedboat, I’d fucking leave in a heartbeat! Didn’t we come to the Aircraft Carrier Base for shelter in the first place? Now that it can’t shelter us, we’re not even allowed to have an opinion?”

”If you have an opinion, can’t you express it civilly? This isn’t having an opinion, this is disrupting the normal order of the base!”

”The water purification equipment on the aircraft carriers is extremely limited. The fact that they can give us this much is already incredible. And on what grounds do you demand to be treated the same as the soldiers who protect us? When an emergency hits, are you going to be the one charging to the front lines to protect everyone?”

”That’s their duty as soldiers, not mine! And by what right do you demand that *I* charge to the front?”

”It’s precisely because they have that duty that they need an adequate supply of water. Is there a problem with that? If you want an adequate supply of water too, then take on the corresponding responsibility!”
