Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 280: Chapter 185: Dinner Chat, a Toxin Appears

”Wouldn’t we just be drifting around back there, too? At best, we might get on a big ship once in a while, and it’ll rock a little less!”

”This damned rain... I hate it!”

”You should be glad it’s been raining constantly. Otherwise, not only would we be short on food, we wouldn’t even have anything to drink!”

”Yeah, the rainwater isn’t exactly clean, but it’s a lot better than seawater. At least it’s not full of nuclear waste!”

”Anyone else feel like it’s suddenly getting a little hot?”

”Really? You’re probably just hot and bothered. Go find a girl and blow off some steam, you’ll feel better!”

”Now that you mention it, I actually do want to go back!”

Meanwhile, at the Aircraft Carrier Base, the environmental monitoring department suddenly sounded an alarm!

”Captain, we’re detecting a rapid increase in the ambient temperature!”

Hearing this, Wang Jun paused for a moment before asking in a low voice, ”Are there any other anomalies?”

”No other anomalies detected. So far, we’ve only registered the rising ambient temperature!”

Wang Jun’s brow furrowed. ”How could this be?”

Just then, another person rushed in. ”Captain, we’ve discovered a toxin has suddenly appeared in the rainwater! Our analysis shows that ingesting it will cause diarrhea!”

Wang Jun’s expression shifted. ”Immediately notify all base personnel that drinking rainwater directly is now prohibited!”

”Yes, sir!”

When the notice prohibiting the direct consumption of rainwater came down from the higher-ups, all the survivors at the Aircraft Carrier Base were stunned.

”We’ve been drinking this rainwater just fine. Why the sudden ban?”

”If we can’t drink rainwater, what are we supposed to drink? Are they trying to make us die of thirst?”

”Everyone, calm down. Read the notice carefully. It says the base’s lab detected toxic substances in the rainwater!”

”No way! I’ve been drinking it for ages and I’m totally fine.”

”They just detected it. Better safe than sorry, everyone!”

Wang Jun immediately sent this information to Ren Yuanyang.

Ren Yuanyang was in the middle of enjoying a fine meal when he saw Wang Jun’s message. He frowned slightly, immediately initiated a video call, and asked, ”How could a toxin just suddenly appear?”

Wang Jun shook his head helplessly. ”I have no idea. The ambient temperature is also skyrocketing. It seems like something’s gone wrong with Blue Star! You all have to be careful. Don’t drink the rainwater directly; it has to be purified first!”

Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly. ”Alright, thanks for the warning. By the way, you should probably warn the River Bird Fleet’s contingent as well.”

Wang Jun paused, then nodded. ”Right, I’ll notify them now.”

After the video call ended, Qin Haonan asked curiously, ”What toxin?”

The others also turned to Ren Yuanyang, waiting for his answer.

Ren Yuanyang immediately relayed what Wang Jun’s people had discovered.

Everyone was shocked.

”Thank goodness our base has always used purified water!” Lu Jiamei said, relieved. ”They’ve only detected it now, but who knows how long it’s actually been there!”

Hua Lingfang shook his head in resignation. ”Just a while ago we were marveling at how nutrient-rich the rainwater was, and now it’s suddenly toxic. It’s like the heavens don’t want us to have a moment’s peace!”

”Don’t worry, everyone,” Ren Yuanyang said in a serious tone. ”This will have a negligible impact on our base. The rapidly rising temperature, however, is what will affect us. The question is, how high will it go?”

”But it’s raining. The temperature can’t get that high, can it?” Qin Haonan asked uncertainly.

Ren Yuanyang shook his head. ”If the rain doesn’t stop while the temperature rises, it’ll be like we’re in a steam room. We’ll be sweating profusely, which means we’ll need to drink a lot of water. But since the rainwater can’t be consumed directly, it’s a catch-22. Without water purifiers, the consequences are unthinkable.”

Qin Haonan nodded. ”Doesn’t that put the Aircraft Carrier Base in a dangerous position? They have a large population, so their demand for purified water must be huge.”

”Should we offer to help them, then?” Lu Jiamei asked, frowning.

Aside from a sense of camaraderie, they also possessed various organisms that the Peach Blossom Base needed. Ren Yuanyang had no choice but to intervene.

Ren Yuanyang nodded slightly. ”Mm. After he contacts the River Bird Fleet, I’ll talk to him again. Maybe they have enough water purifiers. You all carry on. I’m heading back now.”

”Yes, Chief!” everyone answered in unison.

Ren Yuanyang left, and Lu Jiamei and her group followed suit.

Those who remained immediately broke into discussion.

”I understand this world less and less. How can there be toxins in the rain?”

”I think I’ve figured it out. Some Advanced Civilization must be experimenting on us, constantly throwing new obstacles in our way.”

”Thank goodness we made it to the Peach Blossom Base. At least we don’t have to worry about water.”

”There’s still so much food left. Are you guys sure you’re done?” Jin Ziyu suddenly interjected. She couldn’t care less about what was in the rain; her only concern was what was left on the dining table.

Yu Ren, witnessing Jin Ziyu’s appetite for the first time, gave her a thumbs-up in awe. ”You’re incredible! How can you eat so much?”

Everyone else was already stuffed to the gills. Some were even lying on the sofa to digest, completely unable to bend over.

But Jin Ziyu was still going strong!

”How much more do you want, Ziyu?” Si Youqin asked with a smile.

”Just one more plate!” Jin Ziyu quickly polished off the food in front of her, then grabbed another huge helping and gestured for Si Youqin to clear the rest of the dishes.

Si Youqin nodded slightly. Looking at all the remaining food, she said with a laugh, ”Looks like we’ll be eating leftovers for the next two days!”

”Our leftovers are probably better than the feasts those bigwigs at other bases are having!” Lin Mu said with a chuckle.

Si Youqin and the others put all the leftovers into the refrigerator.

Yu Ren sat down next to Lin Mu and asked, ”With something this big happening, the regional channel must be buzzing with discussions, right?”
