Global Flood: I Survive on Duckweed

Chapter 262: Chapter 179: The Fisherman’s Gain, Brought Back to the Base

Lu Jiamei remarked with some surprise, ”I never knew traditional Chinese medicine included surgery!”

”Of course,” Hua Lingfang explained. ”The earliest recognized surgical procedures, like scraping the bone to treat an injury, were performed by Hua Tuo. He also invented and used anesthetics. It’s very likely that even the anesthetics used by the Arabs were passed down from our Dragon Country!”

”So, traditional Chinese medicine is that powerful?” Lu Jiamei felt as though she had never truly understood it, and had just gone along with the popular opinion that it was unscientific.

”How could a medical tradition with thousands of years of development be inferior to Western medicine, which only has a few hundred years of history?” Hua Lingfang retorted.

Lu Jiamei and the others nodded in deep agreement.

”Have Haonan watch this man for now,” Ren Yuanyang instructed. ”We also brought back several others today. Jiamei, go and get them settled.”

”Understood!” Lu Jiamei nodded and walked toward the last speedboat.

Only eight of Yu Ren’s men were left, all of them on the last speedboat.

When Jianghu saw Lu Jiamei approaching, he immediately went up to greet her. ”Minister Lu!”

Lu Jiamei gave a slight nod in acknowledgment before turning her gaze to the eight men.

”You have arrived at the Peach Blossom Base,” Lu Jiamei began. ”Whether you like it or not, you must join us. There is no other choice.”

The men were stunned by her words, but their shock quickly turned to excitement.

”Ma’am, is this really the Peach Blossom Base?” the middle-aged man who had answered Ren Yuanyang earlier couldn’t help but ask for confirmation. ”The one that trades fresh fruit for plants?”

Lu Jiamei nodded. ”It is.”

”That’s wonderful! I’m willing to join the Peach Blossom Base!” the man immediately replied.

The others, of course, also voiced their eagerness to join.

Lu Jiamei continued, ”Once you join the base, you must obey orders. You work, you eat. Understand?”

”Understood!” the men answered in unison.

”Someone will be by later to record your information, especially your profession before the flood. If you have any special skills, the base will put you to good use, and your compensation will naturally be better.” Lu Jiamei turned to leave.

”Yes, ma’am!”

Hearing how they addressed her, Lu Jiamei stopped and corrected them. ”Call me Minister Lu. Our base’s supreme leader is addressed as ’Chief.’ You’ll get to know everyone else over time. Feel free to ask the veteran members questions.”

”Yes, Minister Lu!”

Lu Jiamei gave a dismissive wave and walked out, with Jianghu following behind her.

The men left in the cabin began to talk among themselves again.

”I can’t believe we were actually rescued by the Peach Blossom Base!”

”Yeah, and they seem so honest in their trades. They must treat their own members well, too!”

”I just wonder what’s happened to Lord Yu.”

”Whatever happened to him, now that he’s at the Peach Blossom Base, he’ll probably have no choice but to join, too.”

”I wouldn’t be so sure. Lord Yu is very powerful. What do we do if they start fighting?”

”What else can we do? We’re just regular people, we don’t have a choice. We’ll have to side with whoever comes out on top.”

”That doesn’t feel right, though.”

”I just want to survive!”

Ren Yuanyang had Qin Haonan and his men drive all three speedboats into the Banyan Forest. They then disembarked and went inside one of the shipping containers.

”Would you like to have breakfast now?” Xin Wan asked as she came forward to greet them.

”Yes,” Ren Yuanyang nodded. ”After all that, I’m definitely hungry.”

Xin Wan immediately went to bring out the breakfast she had prepared.

While eating, Ren Yuanyang gave his instructions, ”Xin Wan, grab a laptop later and register the newcomers’ information. Once you’re done, add the data for the previous group as well.”

Xin Wan paused, slightly taken aback. ”A computer?”
