Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Ian puffed out his cheeks.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”I really did have something to do, and then I got stuck in traffic. I didn’t mean to be late. You’re not upset just because I was late, are you?”

’If she was giving me the cold shoulder just because of that, I could understand.’

Anne Sutton wanted to say no, but she couldn’t swallow the frustration that had been building up inside her.

Hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, she remained silent.

Seeing this, Nathan Fawcett’s lips curved into a slight smile as he walked over. ”Anne.”

Anne Sutton ignored him.

Nathan Fawcett took the initiative and reached out, taking her hand. ”If it’s because I was late, I apologize. You have every right to be angry. But don’t get too close to Justin Shields.”

”And why can’t I get too close to him?” Anne Sutton looked at the man, finding his logic incomprehensible. ”I’ll get close to whomever I want! Stop meddling in my business.”

”Because it makes me unhappy,” Nathan Fawcett said, looking at her. ”When I see you with another man, I get jealous and upset. It makes me miserable. I don’t want to see you with anyone else.”

His words were akin to a heartfelt confession.

Anne Sutton stared at the man, a little dumbfounded.

She hadn’t expected the man who was angry just a moment ago to suddenly say something like this.

When Nathan Fawcett saw her just staring at him without a response, he instantly felt a little embarrassed. His tone became more forceful as he began to break down the situation for her logically. ”Why are you looking at me like that? Besides, do you really think Justin Shields likes you for you? You’ve taken over the Fawcett Group and become its chairman. He’s after the wealth in your hands, not you!”

”Ha!” Seeing him turn all sarcastic and weird, Anne Sutton retorted bluntly, ”And what about you? Why are you telling me all this?”

Nathan Fawcett: ”...”

He fell silent for a moment before saying, ”Regardless, I’m not like him. I don’t have ulterior motives. Besides you yourself, there’s nothing I want from you. A man like Justin Shields, who just wants to be a freeloader, can’t be trusted. Do you understand?”

”...” Listening to Nathan Fawcett’s words, Anne Sutton could only focus on his one phrase: ’Besides you yourself, there’s nothing I want from you.’

’And what... what is there about me that’s worth his wanting?’

Anne Sutton was looking at him when she suddenly realized Ian, whose hand she had been holding, was gone.

Anne Sutton jumped in fright and turned around, only to see Ian quietly trailing behind the two adults. He hadn’t made a fuss, even though they had forgotten about him.

Looking at the little guy, Anne Sutton felt a wave of relief after the false alarm. She realized she had gotten so caught up in her conversation with Nathan Fawcett that she had almost forgotten about her own son.

’It’s all Nathan Fawcett’s fault for distracting me.’

She quickly stopped and waited for Ian to catch up.

When they reached the entrance, the driver was already waiting.

Nathan Fawcett carried Ian into the car.

...

Not long after they got in the car, Nathan Fawcett looked at Anne Sutton and asked, ”When you were paying the bill today, you two talked for a while. What were you chatting about?”

Anne Sutton’s mind was still in a mess from Nathan Fawcett’s earlier words.

Hearing his question now, she answered honestly, ”We didn’t talk about much. I was going to pay the bill, but it turns out he’d already paid for it earlier when he went to the restroom. He helped me look for a house before, so I wanted to return the favor, but now I just owe him for another meal.”

Nathan Fawcett scoffed, ”So calculating. Such ulterior motives! I’m telling you, his intentions aren’t pure! Ha... Does he really think he can get your attention with tricks like that?”

He said it with such confidence, as if it were a foregone conclusion that Anne Sutton would never fall for Justin Shields.

Anne Sutton said, ”I think he’s a great guy! He’s handsome, has a good temper... not like some people...”

Stung by her words, Nathan Fawcett glared back at her.

He said, ”That’s because he hides his true self in front of you, and I don’t.”

”Is that so?” Anne Sutton said. ”But you’ve hardly told me a single truth when you talk to me.”

”...” Seeing that she was still holding a grudge and remembered what had happened before, Nathan Fawcett felt a bit helpless.

He had lied to her about Ian, so now, no matter what he said, Anne Sutton wouldn’t believe him.

Knowing he was in the wrong, Nathan Fawcett said no more.

’But even if Anne Sutton doesn’t believe me, I have my ways!’

The two of them arrived home, where the housekeeper was waiting. ”Sir, Ms. Sutton, have you had dinner? Should I make something to eat?”

Just as Anne Sutton was about to say it wasn’t necessary, she heard Nathan Fawcett say, ”Make something for me.”

The food at that restaurant today really wasn’t very good.

Nathan Fawcett had a sensitive stomach, and he always found eating out to be a bit of an ordeal. He much preferred eating at home.

When it came to food, he had always been that picky.

Hearing this, the housekeeper quickly nodded.

Seeing that he was going to eat, Anne Sutton didn’t rush upstairs.

When Ian heard that Nathan Fawcett was going to eat, he felt hungry too.

That’s just how kids are!

They don’t eat much in one sitting, but the moment they see someone else eating, they want to eat too.

Anne Sutton took Ian to wash his hands, leaving her phone to the side. A message had come in from Justin Shields, telling her about a good restaurant and asking her to have dinner with him tomorrow night.

’Ha!’

Seeing this, Nathan Fawcett’s lips curled into a cold smirk.

He had said it earlier today—Justin Shields clearly had too much time on his hands!

’That’s the only reason he has the energy to pester Anne Sutton!’

Anne Sutton came back and glanced at the message from Justin Shields. He was asking her out to dinner. Anne remembered she didn’t have any plans for tomorrow; it was the weekend, so it was the perfect opportunity to go out for a meal and pay back Justin Shields’ favor.

’No matter what, I have to be the one to pay this time!’

So she accepted!

Nathan Fawcett, sitting to the side, had already started eating, and Ian was eating as well.

Seeing that Anne Sutton had finished reading the message, Nathan Fawcett asked, ”What, did Justin Shields ask you out again?”

”He asked me to have dinner with him tomorrow,” Anne Sutton said. ”I accepted.”

Nathan Fawcett said, ”He just had dinner with you today, and now he’s asking you out for tomorrow. He’s really got some nerve.”

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, ”If I remember correctly, you two seemed to be on decent terms before, right?”

Back in Westhaven, Justin Shields even went to the Fawcett Family estate to see Nathan Fawcett.

They also had contact through work.

Nathan Fawcett said, ”You’re overthinking it. I can’t stand the sight of him. I’ve *never* been able to stand the sight of him!”

He only showed the Shields Family any consideration for Stella Shields’ sake.

Now that even Stella Shields had managed to annoy him, it was only natural for Nathan Fawcett to dislike Justin Shields.

Anne Sutton said, ”There are a lot of people you can’t stand! Justin Shields is a nice person. He has a good temper, too! If you dislike him so much, that sounds like a you problem!”

”...” Nathan Fawcett stared at Anne Sutton. ”Is my temper really that bad in your eyes?”

Anne Sutton said, ”You know the answer to that.”

Nathan Fawcett looked at his son, Ian. ”Is Daddy’s temper very bad?”

Ian nodded. ”Mhm.”

He would always be on his mom’s side!

Nathan Fawcett: ”...”
