Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Stella Shields looked at Anna Linden and said, ”Aunt Anna, do you want Anne Sutton to live here too? Why? You obviously don’t like her.”

Anna Linden frowned. If it weren’t for the fact that Nathan Fawcett couldn’t have physical contact with others, she wouldn’t have to endure such an indignity. She had already sent people to find a cure for Nathan’s illness, but until they got a positive result, Anne Sutton was the only one who could be with him.

Anna Linden said to Stella Shields, ”You’re a very good girl. Later, I’ll help you find a suitable husband, I guarantee he’ll be better than Nathan Fawcett—the kind of man who will dote on you. It would be a great injustice to you to be with him!”

Besides, Nathan Fawcett had no desire to marry Stella Shields. Matters of the heart shouldn’t be forced.

Stella Shields never imagined that Anna Linden would now be trying to persuade her to be with someone else!

She immediately refused, ”No! I don’t want to marry anyone else.”

Anna Linden looked at her and said, ”Stella, Nathan Fawcett doesn’t like you. You’ll only suffer if you’re with him. He has a terrible personality, nothing at all like Ethan Linden. Ethan was gentle, but Nathan is hot-tempered. His father raised him to have a foul disposition. If I wasn’t here, he would surely treat you even worse. So, you need to wake up.”

Stella Shields said, ”I’d rather stay by your side forever than marry someone else! There’s nothing wrong with not getting married. Look at all the female celebrities who stay single to focus on their careers. Isn’t that perfectly normal?”

The main reason was...

’Other than Nathan Fawcett, there’s no one I want to marry!’

’It’s better to stay with the Linden Family than to marry someone else.’

’With Anna Linden looking out for me, my life won’t be too bad.’

Anna Linden looked at Stella Shields and said, ”What if I adopt you as my goddaughter and marry you off in style? Wouldn’t that be nice?”

She had never found happiness in her own marriage, so she genuinely hoped Stella Shields could be happy.

It was natural to want others to achieve the things she herself had never obtained.

Hearing that Anna wanted to adopt her as a goddaughter, Stella Shields waved her hands in alarm. ”No, thank you, Aunt Anna. I think things are fine just the way they are.”

She didn’t want to get married because the person she wanted to marry was Nathan Fawcett. Besides his status, she also loved his face.

Especially since Nathan Fawcett started living as Ethan Linden, he had become far more handsome than before. Every time she saw him, her heart swelled with pride, and she fantasized endlessly about making this man hers.

’But if I really become Anna Linden’s goddaughter, then I’ll never have a chance with Nathan Fawcett. I don’t want that!’

Anna Linden chuckled at Stella Shields’s nervous expression, having seen through her true feelings. She said, ”It seems you’re still in love with Ethan.”

Her secret laid bare, Stella Shields lowered her head. ”I’ve loved Ethan since we were children, and I haven’t forgotten him for a single moment all these years! Isn’t it normal for me to love him? In my heart, he’s like a god! Even though... even though he’s gone now, when I see Nathan Fawcett, who looks just like him, I can’t help it. Aunt Anna, is it wrong for me to feel this way?”

Instead of getting angry, Anna Linden listened to Stella Shields and said, ”It’s rare that you still remember Ethan after he’s been gone for so long. Unlike Anne Sutton...”

’Thinking about what Anne Sutton said to me today... she actually wants Nathan Fawcett to legitimately take my son’s place. How ridiculous!’

’Nathan Fawcett is my son, that’s true. But if everyone acknowledges his identity as Nathan Fawcett, then no one in this world will remember Ethan Linden anymore.’

’I refuse to watch Arthur Fawcett’s son replace everything that belonged to my son.’

’Even if Nathan Fawcett is alive now, he is only fit to live under Ethan Linden’s name.’

Stella Shields said, ”Did Anne Sutton say something to make you angry? She’s so annoying, and her mouth is just as bad. Today she was going on about me, saying that Ethan would never marry me in his life. It made me so sad to hear that.”

Looking at Stella Shields’s sad expression, Anna Linden said, ”Just be patient for now. Actually, it’s not that Ethan necessarily dislikes you. It’s just that right now, because of his physical condition, there’s nothing that can be done. Just wait a little longer. If there’s a chance in the future and you still want to marry him, I’ll find a way to make him agree.”

Stella Shields, whose heart had turned to ash at Anne Sutton’s arrival, felt a flicker of hope ignite upon hearing Anna Linden’s words. ”Aunt Anna, you’re too good to me!”

Anna Linden picked up her bowl and ate some of the food.

She had lost her appetite after being angered by Anne Sutton, but now she found the food in her bowl to be delicious. As she ate, Anna looked at Stella Shields and asked, ”Did Anne Sutton make this meal?”

Stella Shields said, ”Did she? I didn’t notice.”

”I think so. It tastes different from what the kitchen staff usually makes.”

Anna Linden ate a little more, but then remembered it was made by Anne Sutton and forced herself to stop.

’Anne Sutton’s cooking may be good, but I won’t be bought off by a few bites!’

’The moment there’s any hope of a cure, I will absolutely drive Anne Sutton out.’

’After all, Anne Sutton’s presence is a constant reminder of Nathan Fawcett’s existence.’

’As long as she’s here, someone will always remember the name Nathan Fawcett.’

’In Anne Sutton’s heart, Ethan Linden is just a stranger. She will never acknowledge him!’

The next afternoon, Ian was sleeping on the sofa while Anne Sutton sat beside him reading a book, when Justin Shields arrived.

Stella Shields came down from upstairs and was surprised to see him, as he hadn’t told her he was coming. ”Brother, what are you doing here?”

Justin Shields glanced at her. ”Look at you, running over here every chance you get. What kind of impression does that give?”

”If I don’t run here, where else would I go?” Stella Shields retorted. ”I have no desire to go home!”

Justin Shields gave her a look and couldn’t be bothered to argue with her.

His gaze fell on Anne Sutton. ”Anne.”

Anne Sutton looked up, glanced at him, and then glanced at Stella Shields.

Seeing that Justin Shields’s attitude toward Anne Sutton was better than his attitude toward her, Stella said resentfully, ”So, you came to see her!”

Justin Shields said, ”I asked Anne to see a movie. What, you want to come?”

Stella Shields refused immediately. ”What would I do there? You know I can’t go to a movie theater.”

Places like that are too crowded.

As a celebrity, her appearance would only cause a scene and draw a crowd.

Ever since she became a star, Stella Shields hadn’t been to a movie theater once.

She always watched movies at home.

Justin Shields said, ”I knew you wouldn’t go. And I didn’t want to see you there anyway.”

Justin Shields glanced at the sleeping Ian and said, ”It’s still early, anyway. Let’s wait for Ian to wake up before we go.”

Anne Sutton said, ”Ian should be waking up soon.”

After speaking with them, Stella Shields had already walked out. She had things to attend to and didn’t stay behind to bother with her brother.

Here, she acted as if she were a member of the Linden Family, while Justin Shields and Anne Sutton were treated like guests.

Watching her leave, Justin Shields lowered his voice. ”Stella hasn’t been causing trouble for you, has she? She’s a bit spoiled, so I’m afraid she might have offended you.”

Anne Sutton looked at Justin Shields and said, ”It’s fine. It’s not like I’m going to let her walk all over me.”

Hearing this, the corner of Justin Shields’s mouth twitched. He had to admit, Anne Sutton really was brutally honest, completely unconcerned with what others thought of her.
