I Am Your Natural Enemy

”So, it’s like this...” Wen Yan roughly went over what had happened, and in the end he brought up the Witch Priest Uncle.

”Since the Water Monarch said so, then it must be true.

The matter of the Sealing has to do with demons; having fellow cultivators from Wudang handle it is the most suitable.

As for that Witch Priest, what do you think of him?”

”I feel that uncle is a pretty good person, and his will is firm. When things change suddenly, he can quickly calm himself down.

I think he’s not the kind of person who would be controlled by some so‑called bloodline inheritance.

Whatever he’s going to do, the main point definitely isn’t the inheritance itself.

So I didn’t follow him. I came to consult Fourth Great-uncle Master first.

What exactly is a Witch Priest?”

”In modern terms, it might be something like a ritualist, but what that ’priest’ is also depends on the era.

In the earliest times, the priest was the existence that held the supreme power over rituals, akin to a divine envoy, with very high authority.

Even the Emperor had to be acknowledged by the highest-ranking priest among the Witch Priests.

Later, although they declined, the importance of rituals was always passed down.

’The great affairs of a state lie in sacrifice and war’—you should have heard this saying, right?

The earlier the era, the more important the sacrifices.

From the flourishing to the decline of the Grand Historians, and then to the later Taoist Priests, they first took a brutal beating from Emperor Qin, barely left with one last breath.

That last breath was then strangled and snuffed out by Emperor Wu.

From the earliest Witches to the later Taoist Priests, you could say they all ended in complete ruin.

Only later did our Taoist Sect rise and prosper, allowing the lineage to be passed down to this day.”

At this point, Fourth Great-uncle Master suddenly paused. He hesitated for a moment and still didn’t continue; if he went on, he’d have to drag several big shots into it.

Wen Yan only half understood. He didn’t really get what a Grand Historian was, but he did know about Taoist Priests—those legends about Emperor Qin’s Immortality Elixir are still circulating even now.

He roughly understood that Fourth Great-uncle Master was telling him that Witches had been going downhill all along, until even those Taoist Priests who were probably related to Witches and suspected to be Witches in a vest were all wiped out.

Now, with thousands of years having passed, it’s even more impossible for the Witches to pull any new tricks.

Power is power, knowledge is knowledge; at most, only these can be passed on. At the very most, you carve a bit more stuff into the DNA that can become instinct—aside from that, there’s nothing else.

How things turn out still mainly depends on the person himself.

”I understand, Fourth Great-uncle Master.”

”Handle it as you see fit. It’s just a Witch Priest who has only just awakened his inheritance; no need to be so tense, and don’t pressure him. Just let things be as they are, act normally.

Even if some Sealing had really been lifted long ago, it wouldn’t have much to do with this Witch Priest.

If there are still Seals not yet undone, then in this era, a Witch Priest who just awakened his inheritance still can’t do much.”

”Alright then, Fourth Great-uncle Master, I’ll get going first. I’m going to visit Grand Uncle Master.”

”Go.”

With the Evasion Wooden Plaque in his pocket, Wen Yan went over to Grand Uncle Master’s side. Grand Uncle Master had already finished his morning exercises.

Wen Yan took out the Evasion Plaque and repeated the story. Grand Uncle Master only smiled and said,

”If you can use it, keep it on you as protection.”

”...”

That one sentence left Wen Yan at a loss for words.

But judging from Grand Uncle Master’s expression, he seemed to know exactly what effects this Evasion Plaque had.

”Alright then, I won’t stand on ceremony.”

”We’re family, what’s there to be polite about?”

After chatting with Grand Uncle Master for a while, Wen Yan didn’t hurry to leave. He strolled his way over to the Zombie Cave.

He’d originally wanted to check in on Zhang Laoxi. Just as he arrived, he saw Zhang Laoxi, who was in special training here, being chased by two Haired Zombies right on his heels, and in the blink of an eye they vanished into the mountains and forest.

Wen Yan couldn’t help sighing. It hadn’t even been that long, and Zhang Laoxi’s special training results seemed to be advancing by leaps and bounds.

In the forest, he was running like an unleashed stray dog, posture wild, speed extremely fast, actually managing to make the two Haired Zombies fail to catch up to him. Impressive.

Wen Yan came to the Zombie Cave and politely knocked on the door. The Stone Gate slowly opened, and the same Deformed Corpse who had followed Aunt Gan last time raised the Stone Gate single-handedly.

”Is Aunt Gan in? I came back to the mountain to visit everyone, and by the way see whether Cai Heizi has cooled off completely yet. I’m not disturbing you, am I?”

...

In the Imperial Capital, inside the Scorching Sun Headquarters, the General Director was, as always, processing documents.

Of the Ghost Wealth Gods previously captured, more than fifty cases had already been concluded. According to the available data, it only required going through the procedures to approve the death sentences.

The General Director looked at these files, his expression indifferent. After a long while, he checked the time and issued an order.

All the concluded cases are to be temporarily detained; later, someone will come to transfer them.

These bastards deserve to die a thousand times; there’s nothing to discuss—what differs is only how they die.

Recently, there have been more and more incidents. Things all over the place are starting to stir, and especially, the number of idiots is increasing—that’s the most troublesome part.

This ’idiot’ isn’t purely a derogatory label; it’s a blanket term for those newly revived old antiques, Ghosts whose temperaments have drastically changed, Different Races who weren’t too bright to begin with, and so on.

They really don’t know, or have absolutely no concept of the price they have to pay after committing crimes.

Or they know the price but simply don’t care, willing to be blown to dust without hesitation.

That’s what even leaves the General Director somewhat helpless.

And this sort of thing is actually the most common.

By comparison, the Ghost Wealth God case, though highly dangerous, at least had a cautious and careful opponent who knew some boundaries and wouldn’t go on a mad killing spree.

But some Ghosts—there’s really nothing you can do about them.
