I Am Your Natural Enemy

In the first layer of the Underground Beehive Basement, Wen Yan sat in a room and released Huo Yong, placing some alcohol in front of him while he drank tea.

”I don’t even know if you’re some sort of ghost or what, but let’s just try it. This is called alcohol. I wonder if you had this back then.”

Huo Yong sniffed the scent of the alcohol. He indeed had never seen such a pure and distilled high-proof alcohol, as clear as water.

”Never seen this before. Back then, it was always fermented from piled-up rotten fruits. The taste is somewhat similar. Is this what you now call alcohol?”

”Yeah, it’s called alcohol. Warriors have to drink strong liquor.”

”Then why aren’t you drinking it?”

”I don’t think I’m qualified enough, so I drink tea instead.” Wen Yan said seriously, holding his teacup.

Huo Yong was slightly stunned, secretly surprised that Wen Yan wasn’t even qualified to drink the strong liquor?

Smelling the alcohol, Huo Yong felt an inexplicable satisfaction. No wonder it’s liquor only warriors can drink; it’s indeed different from the so-called alcohol he once knew.

Wen Yan secretly speculated that Huo Yong’s use of ”Witch” could trace back to the Dynasty Xia and Shang. Judging by his understanding of alcohol, which was still in the phase of casually fermenting rotten fruits, it could be considered a partial proof.

Plus, Huo Yong’s wild temperament and rampant style, or to put it another way, the rules he followed were completely different from today’s.

”What kind of people are qualified to drink strong liquor?”

”Only those two levels stronger than me, or those who have made great achievements, or noble warriors willing to sacrifice themselves, are worthy of my toasting with strong liquor.”

”Two levels stronger than you, how strong must they be?”

Huo Yong obviously didn’t believe this. When Wen Yan took down the professional level of devils, that overwhelming strength, which rendered Huo Yong completely helpless, left him with a very deep impression.

In all his memories, those who could make him feel utterly powerless were few, each one was renowned, standing at the pinnacle.

Wen Yan thought for a moment, counting on his fingers.

”Just a few of them. If such a strong person wanted to kill me, that’s how strong they are.”

Seeing Wen Yan so serious, Huo Yong’s expression suddenly became solemn, respecting the strong as necessary.

His previous cautiousness was indeed necessary. Apparently, the information he’d heard hadn’t even touched on the strongest ones.

Only upon his recent awakening did he feel this world was too peaceful; everywhere he looked, there were weaklings, and no ordinary person had the scent of blood or vicious spirit anymore.

Later, when he was drowned by the waves caused by King Guilong, he quickly fled, gleaning some insight.

Now, after hearing Wen Yan’s words, he felt even more that he wasn’t mistaken. For ordinary people to live so carefree, there must surely be immensely strong people guarding the ground.

Even the Flood Dragon was taking orders. The strongest here must indeed be incredibly strong.

Wen Yan drank tea, Huo Yong sniffed alcohol, chatting idly, and the atmosphere was quite decent. After a few sentences, Wen Yan glanced at the patterns on Huo Yong’s face and casually asked.

”May I ask, are the marks on your face a totem?”

Huo Yong was silent for a moment, not speaking.

”I’ve searched through all the materials and couldn’t find a match. Don’t you want to leave a name?

If you die, your tribe’s name will be obliterated by time, leaving no trace. No one will remember it anymore.

If you leave a name, that name might later be rumored inaccurately and be attributed to another tribe.

I didn’t turn you in to give you a warrior’s honor.

I must follow the rules, I have to consider my tribe too.

You should understand this.

You certainly don’t want someone to record anything at will in the future.

For example, recording that Huo Yong was a simple hunter from a small tribe that submitted to the Flame Emperor in ancient times, right?”

Huo Yong’s expression changed slightly upon hearing this, but he did not get angry.

Wen Yan, observing his expressions, thought to himself that the times were not too far off, narrowing down the timeframe even further.

Huo Yong knew of the Flame Emperor and did not feel it was an insult to be affiliated with the Flame Emperor, but looking at his reaction, it seemed he wasn’t from the Flame Emperor’s camp.

In those ancient times, many things were impossible to trace. Even now, the available fragments indicate that the situation back then was likely very complicated, not simply antagonistic, nor a matter of mere right and wrong.

Huo Yong pondered for a bit, touching his own face.

”I hail from the Firebird Tribe. This is our tribe’s totem, the Fire Feather Totem. Each mark represents my accomplishments in battle.

I was the warrior with the greatest achievements in the tribe, fallen in battle, and transformed into Huo Yong by the witch.

Before I was sealed, at most, I had mastered eight blessings.

Sadly, in the end, they were all erased one by one.

They couldn’t kill me; the witches no longer possessed what was needed to kill me, so they could only seal me.”

Wen Yan, holding his teacup, sipping tea, casually remarked in response to Huo Yong’s words.

”Couldn’t find Kuiniu’s Foot, right?”

Huo Yong’s head abruptly lifted to look at Wen Yan, deeply shocked that Wen Yan even knew about this?!

”Don’t look at me like that. I do know a bit about the Song of the Witch’s Chanting Ritual, rest assured I haven’t told anyone about it.”

”Who exactly are you?” Huo Yong could no longer hold back.

”My name is Wen Yan, just me. Don’t overthink it. I’m not some ancient antique that’s revived. I just happen to know some information, know about the Song of the Witch’s Chanting Ritual, but even the witches of your time couldn’t gather the tools, and it’s even less possible now. No one can kill you.”

”No, you definitely can.”
