42: Chapter 42 Rumors and Hearsay_1

42 -42 Rumors and Hearsay_1

The little elves are hailed as one of the greatest creations in the world of wizards in the last five hundred years.

They have freed the hands of wizards, serving as their assistants.

Wizards can use their idle minds and hands to do something more meaningful, instead of carefully watching the flames or tremblingly holding glassware.

According to Xiao Xiao’s explanation, the elves are magical alchemical creatures produced in groups, and there are no two identical clusters of elves in the world.

Take, for example, the sowing elves.

When they are seeds, the planter must prepare a suitable potion for them according to their own ideas and intentions.

Until they sprout and grow, these elves can only survive with these potions.

Their lives are closely linked with wizards.

If the wizards who planted them die, the elves who lose their potion supply will also lose their lives.

Zheng Qing thought this was a very unfair thing.

“They are also creatures of wisdom.

Doing so may not conform to ethics.” Zheng Qing racked his brains, trying to find some suitable words.

“What is wisdom?

What is life?

Are they creatures of wisdom?

Whose ethics do they conform to?” Xiao Xiao raised a series of counter-questions.

For each question he asked, he picked a roasted scallop into his plate.

Zheng Qing was left speechless.

He could only silently pick up some squid rings from his dinner plate.

“This is a very deep philosophical question, and it’s difficult to explain in a few words.” Xiao Xiao finally took a sip of juice and summed up, “But according to the general consensus in the wizard world, elves are alchemical products between wisdom and chaos.

They cannot be viewed as intelligent creatures.

Besides, they are not subject to wizard ethics.”

Zheng Qing was unhappy and poured himself a bowl of corn soup.

He watched the elves fluttering around him, always feeling that Xiao Xiao’s explanation was wrong.

“Over here!” Not far away, Li Meng was waving his little hand, occupying a large table and waving at the two of them.

Monk Shi Yuan was sitting quietly beside her with only a bowl of white rice and a dish of boiled cabbage in front of him.

The dining table was not far from that big floor-to-ceiling window.

Sitting at the table, Zheng Qing could clearly see the rolling clouds and dazzling sunshine outside the window.

Putting down his dinner plate, Zheng Qing lazily leaned against the soft leather sofa.

A strong aroma rushed over from behind him.

“What’s this smell?” He sniffed, feeling the scent was familiar.

“Curly-haired dog.” Xiao Xiao sat across from him, explaining emotionlessly.

Li Meng spewed the juice from her mouth onto the floor with a “poof,” bent over with laughter without catching her breath.

A few elves rushed over in terror, brought Li Meng a stack of wet wipes, and quickly cleaned up the stain on the floor.

Monk Shi Yuan finished chewing the rice in his mouth, and said, “Amitabha.”

Zheng Qing turned his head and looked, and couldn’t help laughing either.

Behind him sat a tall and thin student, who was previously described by Xiao Xiao as not knowing how to use perfumes correctly, and Li Meng characterized as smelling like a “curly-haired dog.”

The student and his four or five companions were eating at the table.

They glance suspiciously at the laughter, then quickly looked away with a frown.

…

Even though there was a small chunk of un-mashed potato left in the mashed potato, the sauce on the squid rings was a bit spicy, and the smell of the quail eggs was somewhat strong, one couldn’t deny that the ingredients of this buffet restaurant were fairly fresh and tasty.

Zheng Qing took a big sip of corn soup, flicking his tongue slightly.

He lifted his head, and across from him, Li Meng’s little mouth was stuffed full, like the hamster at their home.

Xiao Xiao leisurely chewed on her grilled scallops, her gaze fixated on the pattern of the scallop shell, seemingly entranced as if there was a new world inside.

A boastful voice came from the curly-haired dog behind them:

“Do you know about the demon attack on Four Seasons Pavilion some time ago?”

Zheng Qing raised an eyebrow slightly, straightening up a bit.

The incident at the Great Ming Pavilion was, without a doubt, the most thrilling experience of his eighteen years of life.

Be it Thomas’s Thunder Curse or the pig demon transformed by the fat man, they’ve more than once appeared in his dreams.

As a firsthand witness, he was curious about how the other wizards viewed this event.

The conversation behind him came through clearly.

“Yes, we know.

The newspapers have been all over it.

It’s said that all nine markets under Four Seasons Pavilion were attacked by unidentified wild demons, and all top and intermediate leaders of the governing committee were reprimanded by the Wizard Council.

It seems a lot of people died.” The speaker had a rushed voice and shortness of breath, probably because he was speaking while eating.

“Eight deaths and twenty-one severely injured according to the statistics in the ‘Beta Town Post’.” A sarcastic voice laughed, “As if we couldn’t see the wordplay game they were playing.

With injuries from a wild demon attack, is there any chance of survival?”

“‘Gentlemen and Ladies’ reported more accurate numbers, they counted twenty-nine deaths.” Another voice chimed in, his tone rather weaker, “The newspaper also claimed that the Wizard Alliance had dispatched nine investigation teams to examine the security measures and procedures of Four Seasons Pavilion.

The related report will be published at the end of October.”

“I’m also very curious.

Apparently the trouble in those markets was caused by wild demons, but their numbers were quite small, most markets only had one wild demon.” The slow-speaking voice was full of curiosity while noting, “According to the rules, each market should have a Wizard Covenant police squad stationed.

The squad members should have had no problem suppressing a single wild demon.”

“The police squad was relocated.” The voice with food still in his mouth responded again: “My uncle is the captain of the police squad in Nanjing Pavilion.

They were reassigned to aid in the defense of the New World about a month ago.

The order came in a hurried fashion, he just left a message for the family.

My aunt has been worried sick about him recently, crying in front of my mom all the time.”

“Did the indigenous people of the New World launch a large counteroffensive?” The slow-speaking voice seemed interested, questioning in response: “Logically, the situation over there should be very stable, there shouldn’t be a manpower shortage.”

“No, no.” The short-breathed voice was up again, Zheng Qing could almost see the guy shaking his head frantically, “My family’s elder made some inquiries, apparently First University had some mission and called back many senior wizards stationed in the New World.

So the manpower there is lacking now.

There was no indigenous attack.”

The topics strayed further and further, the curly-haired dog who started the conversation coughed lightly, brought everyone’s attention back to him.

“Do you know that in those attacked markets, there was one where no wizard casualties were reported?” The curly-haired dog drew out the last syllable, creating an air of unfinished business.

“It’s the Great Ming Pavilion, right?” The sarcastic voice was still rife with mockery, “The management committee of the Great Ming Pavilion was even given a collective honor by the Wizard Council a few days ago- all because of this.”

“Shameless!” Someone immediately cursed beside him: “It was the Trident Sword that captured the wild demon.

The committee didn’t lift a finger from start to finish, how could they have the audacity to accept this honor!”

“The Trident Sword just took the wild demon away, but the person who suppressed the wild demon in the Great Ming Pavilion was supposedly a freshman from First University.” Someone added, “My neighbor’s kid works at the Trident Sword office, he said this freshman is on a full scholarship from Jiuyou Academy.”

“I’ve heard about it too, it’s said that this scholarship student cast a Thunder Curse!

His spell directly destroyed half a street!”

“And the Talisman, I’ve heard that the freshman used a very powerful Suppression Talisman.

The wild demon in the Great Ming Pavilion was instantly suppressed!”

“Scholarship students are indeed amazing!” People around were all exclaiming in admiration.

Zheng Qing bowed his head, broke into a fierce coughing fit.
