High School of Demon Hunting

33: Chapter 33 – A Legendary meeting_1

33 -33 – A Legendary meeting_1

In the wizards’ impressions, the Sea Demon King was a lazy demon.

It lurked in the deepest parts of the ocean year-round, silently dozing off, sometimes sleeping for hundreds of years at a stretch.

It had become a legend, an epic, rather than a reality for the wizards.

The deepest impression that the Sea Demon King had left on the wizards was accounting to its four big Sea Demons.

Mist, Whirlpool, Iceberg, Poseidon.

The Sea Demon King extracted its own ribs as dragon bones, constructing formidable warships for its four trusted subordinates that traversed the four seas: Mist Ship, Whirlpool Ship, Iceberg Ship, and Poseidon Ship.

The four big sea demons reigned respective marine territories in the east, west, south, and north.

Even the Alliance of wizards was powerless against them.

“Nikita, come with me to meet a few old friends.” The Captain of the Mist Ship somehow came out of his cabin and reached the deck.

The young female demon was trembling with excitement.

In the world of demons, living legends were few and far between.

These captains were undoubtedly the most dazzling amongst them.

Each had battled at least one powerful wizard, with countless destroyed Hunting Teams.

Previously, she had only heard these stories from the Duke Ulrich, but now, she would face these legends directly!

The female demon tightened her fine woolen cloak around her, a solemn feeling of witnessing history washed over her.

Under the sunlight, four large ships each held a position, facing the boundless sea in silence.

A towering iceberg stood in the north.

The east was enveloped in a mirage.

The south was shrouded in mist.

Only the worn-out Whirlpool Ship in the west, covered with seaweed and shells, quietly stopped under the sun.

The Captain of the Mist Ship was draped in a white cloak, with a wide hood.

He hid most of his face within the hood.

A lantern emblem of the Mist Ship was embroidered on the back of his cloak, shimmering a dazzling green under the sunlight.

Nikita followed behind him, treading cautiously on the sea surface, fearful that causing too much ripple might upset the towering figure before her.

“It is difficult to eliminate the effects of an event, but it is possible to minimize a huge issue,” the Captain of the Mist Ship’s deep voice sounded warm and gentle on the vast sea surface.

“Just like your footprints, every step you take on the sea ripples outwards.

This is the influence you bring.”

“Although using some abilities can easily eradicate these ripples, just like our current position, on this vast sea, any unauthorized use of abilities is prohibited and could bring unpredictable consequences.”

Nikita looked around nervously and confusingly.

She felt that the Captain was implying something, but all she could see was the four silent large ships.

Each ship had a single figure walking towards the center of this marine region.

On the iceberg, a giant white bear shook its head, moving forward slowly.

From the mirage, a burly man with a triangular hat and a thick beard emerged.

The Captain of the Whirlpool Ship appeared a bit unkempt, with his ragged armor covered in seaweed and shells.

But regardless of their appearances, each captain emanated an intimidating aura.

Nikita began to understand the Captain’s implication.

For demons, the moral binds of a wizard’s creed did not exist.

Their actions were bound only by balance and power.

Now, this marine region had four ships, four captains, forming a fragile equilibrium.

“To eradicate the ripples under your feet without drawing others’ attention, you must create more ripples.

Hide the less noticeable ripples below your feet within them.”

“The truth is hidden right there.” The Captain of the Mist Ship sighed, suddenly lifting his hood, revealing a pale face.

He let out a hearty laugh, stepping on the sea surface, and charged towards the other three captains.

At the same time, the other three captains also stepped on the sea surface, rushing forward.

An intense impact erupted ahead, the raging currents were like runaway horses, pulling at Nikita’s cloak with a loud noise.

The center where the captains gathered, a massive burst of demonic energy skyrocketed, tearing the floating clouds above into pieces, even appearing to rupture the sky.

The sea water beneath their feet frantically retreated under their stomps, forming a bottomless whirlpool in the center of the four ships.

Nikita gritted her teeth, closed her eyes, and rushed up as well.

However, she was too slow.

By the time she reached the vicinity of the captains, the sea surface had already restored its calm.

Only that ceaselessly rotating sea eye, proclaimed the tremendous powers of the legendary figures.

Half of the white mantle on the Mist Ship’s Captain had been torn off, and the rest seemed scorched as if burnt by fire, exposing the charred woolly thread underneath.

The white bear descending from the iceberg had two more dark circles around its eyes, and its body was marked with dark burn traces.

It reminded one of an age-old panda from Huaxia seen somewhere in the distance.

The captain who emerged from the mirage was draped with transparent icicles on his glossy black beard, and the tri-cornered leather hat he used to sport had two of its corners torn off.

Only the Captain of the Whirlpool ship— who had been unkempt to begin with—showed no signs of being hurt.

The palpable demonic aura circulated endlessly among the captains, causing Nikita to feel suffocated.

Her thoughts kept fluctuating, one moment she was scared that the captain had brought her along to serve as an appetizer for the four.

On another thought, she thought she might be slaughtered for witnessing the captains in their compromised states.

Is this the ‘Small Demon’ you mentioned?” The rugged ship’s captain of Poseidon, dressed in fiery red leather armor and flaunting a shaggy black beard, asked gruffly upon seeing Nikita.

You all can see for yourselves.” The Captain of the Mist Ship waved his hand, his voice resonating with fatigue.

To Nikita’s horror, she found herself elevated, floating exactly above that pitch-black sea eye.

Will I be thrown into the sea eye!

She went blank with this terrifying thought.

The white bear was the first one to approach.

With its brutal gaze, Nikita advised herself not to struggle, not to panic, and not to look directly into its crimson eyes.

The bear sauntered to her side, wrinkled its nose, sniffed around her, circled twice, nodded affirmatively, let out a low growl, and then retreated.

Next came the Captain of Poseidon’s ship.

And then the Captain of Vortex’s ship.

One after the other, they came by her side, as if validating something.

Only when she landed back on the relative safety of the sea surface did Nikita confirm that she wouldn’t sink into the sea eye.

The faces of the captains were stern.

“How long do you presume he’s been away?.” Whirlpool ship’s captain asked in a piercing and harsh tone, reminiscent of seashells scraping together, staring at the Mist Ship’s Captain.

“At least ten years.”

“But just some years ago they launched attacks right and left, capturing many of our crew members.

It was quite a stir.” Poseidon’s ship captain stroked his bushy beard.

“That was mere bluff.”

“Do you know where he went?”

“He may be establishing a new realm, or he might have lost his bearings on some star trail, or it might be a moment of whimsy during a vacation that made him enter a cave and shut himself in.” The captain of the Mist, with a grin, softly said, “Or he may have bitten the dust.

His advanced years are well known.”

Nikita’s mind was in turmoil, she was barely able to guess whom the captains were discussing.

She turned pale and covered her mouth in horror.

“If your guess is correct, then it indeed warrants our full-blown efforts,” the captain of Poseidon glanced at the small demon and looked back at the Captain of Mist again.

His voice became grimmer: “But before that, we need to test the waters.”

“For assurance, each one of us has to test it.” The Captain of the Mist readjusted his hood, his black lips twisted with amusement: “And I will be the first one to take up the probe.”

…

Throughout their journey back to the ship, the Captain of the Mist Ship remained silent.

Only when they reached the hull of the Mist Ship, standing on the sea surface, gazing at its towering hull, did the Captain break his silence: “Don’t you want to share your thoughts?”

He cast a glance at the small demon.

“If you need it.” Nikita appeared more submissive and obedient than when she first saw the Captain.

The Captain of the Mist Ship nodded in approval.

“You must have guessed something.”

“Well, since you have, keep it to yourself.

Those wizards are tricksters with numerous spells.

I’d rather not let them guess.”

The small demon shivered, prostrate on the sea surface.

“Don’t you worry, you still have your use”.

The captain yanked her up, gazed at her pale face: “You said earlier you could get into the first flight of college, superb.

I am giving you a month.

If you succeed, then you can officially become a crew member of the Mist Ship.

In case you fail-”

The Captain chuckled: “Wizards would love a witch demon who walks right into the trap.”

Nikita blinked her eyes and her face regained color, she restored her charming smile: “As per your wishes, master.”
