Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1191: Chapter 1192: Want to Go Up the Mountain to Take a Look

”That’s good, no need, no need to come back in person.”

”So, Dad, Mom, does that mean you’ll come visit Province X with us?”

”This...” Chiang Songhai didn’t know what to say all of a sudden.

Chen Kaijin added, ”It’s the perfect timing since Chiang Xiao is on summer vacation, and there’s plenty of time to have a good time. Plus, your eldest grandson and granddaughter haven’t met you both yet; they should also get to see their sister.”

Chen Sue chimed in from the side, ”Exactly, shouldn’t the family get together properly? It’s also a gesture of goodwill from my sister and brother-in-law.”

Thinking about it that way, it seemed pretty hard to refuse.

”Let’s wait for Little to come back and see what she thinks,” Chiang Songhai said.

Chen Kaijin smiled, ”That works too. By the way, Dad, I heard from Qingjiang that you’ve been digging up herbs? Are you still doing that? My sister is really interested in this and wants to go up the mountain with you to have a look.”

Up the mountain?

To see him digging up herbs?

Chiang Songhai looked at Chen Sue with a puzzled expression; such a fashionable woman in her little leather sandals didn’t seem like the type to go up a mountain with him to see herb digging.

”Uncle, I’ve brought the right shoes in the car outside,” Chen Sue quickly said as soon as he looked at her feet. ”I really do want to go up the mountain with you, and I’ve heard that there are some interesting legends about the mountains here. I’d like to check them out.”

”What do you mean by interesting legends?” Chiang Songhai truly found her words strange.

”Like, there are ghosts on the mountain?”

”You still want to go up there even if there are ghosts?”

”I don’t believe in them, but I’m really curious about what’s up there, so I’d like Uncle to take me up and have a look,” Chen Sue said.

Chiang Songhai and Ge Dejun exchanged glances.

”Dad, if you’re going to the mountain to gather herbs, why not take her along? If you’re not going anymore, maybe find a villager to take her up there to see. My sister is just interested in these things; otherwise, she wouldn’t have come here with me,” Chen Kaijin said with a smile.

”I’m indeed not going up the mountain to gather herbs anymore,” Chiang Songhai said.

Chen Kaijin and Chen Sue were both taken aback.

He wasn’t gathering herbs on the mountain anymore?

”So, Dad, what are you doing now?” Chen Kaijin asked tentatively, ”I heard that Chiang Xiao is studying in the town now, it must be costly right?”

After saying this, she hurriedly took an envelope out of her bag and handed it to Chiang Songhai, saying apologetically, ”Right, this is from Qingjiang for you and Mom. We haven’t been doing so well these past years, so we haven’t been able to send any money home. But now we have some saved up, so I rushed to bring it over. The financial burden is heavy at home, so it’s not much. Please don’t take offense, Dad and Mom.”

They were giving money now?

Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao were genuinely surprised.

When they first adopted Deng Qingjiang, he had promised to earn money and support them when he grew up, but none of them really took it seriously. After all these years, Deng Qingjiang had only given them money once, and that was because he needed their help to provide proof to change his surname.

That time really hurt them.

They thought their kindness and efforts didn’t need any repayments, but just after a few years out, he wanted to change his surname, which made them feel deep down that he truly wasn’t their son anymore.

It was then that people as honest as Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao mentally moved Deng Qingjiang from an important place in their hearts to somewhere else.
