Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1152: Chapter 1153: Pitiful and Charming

”Qingqing, is this Big Brother’s child? Why did you bring him here?”

”Xiao Xin, I’m really struggling. They all shove the difficult problems onto me, and they criticize me too. Meng Xinian even wants to force me out of the rented house...”

As soon as she saw Gu Xin, Duan Qingqing’s tears began to fall.

With her crying like this, she truly looked like a pear blossom bathed in rain, pitiful and charming.

Even though Gu Xin was younger than her, he had always considered himself as Duan Qingqing’s pillar and protector. Seeing her cry made him feel pity and he really wanted to comfort her properly.

Now that she was crying so hard, Gu Xin quickly took the child from her, ”Qingqing, don’t cry, don’t cry, let me hold him.”

But he had no idea how to hold a baby. As soon as he took the baby, his hands were too forceful, and the child immediately began to cry loudly once again, refusing to be pacified no matter what they did.

In the end, Gu Xin had no choice, ”I think he might be hungry. I’m going to take him next door, the elder sister there is still nursing, maybe she can calm him down.”

Duan Qingqing was almost at her breaking point; she hadn’t expected a crying child to truly be ear-piercing. ”Alright, alright, quickly take him over!”

Gu Xin took the child next door and after a short while came back to find Duan Qingqing sitting in the chair, tears still falling.

”Qingqing, why are you crying again?” He hurried over and sat down next to her, reaching out to wipe away her tears.

Duan Qingqing slightly dodged, but Gu Xin held onto her shoulder.

”Cousin.”

Each time she felt his actions were a bit too intimate, she would call him ’cousin’.

Gu Xin knew very well what she meant, but he had loved her for so many years, and opportunities to be alone with her were rare. Now, they were in his own house, and with no one else around but the two of them, and Duan Qingqing looking so pitiful, Gu Xin chose to ignore the underlying meaning she was trying to convey with that ’cousin’ call.

”Qingqing, stop crying, my heart aches to see you like this.” He turned towards her, took hold of her shoulders, and spun her to face him, then gently caressed her face with the pad of his thumb, wiping her tears away.

Duan Qingqing was no longer young, but in his eyes, she was still as delicate and beautiful as a young girl.

To him, she had always been that strikingly attractive young lady who made one feel an urge to protect her at first sight.

”Cousin, I, I should get back now.” Duan Qingqing tried to stand up but stumbled over Gu Xin’s foot and let out a cry, nearly falling.

”Qingqing, be careful!”

Gu Xin quickly caught her.

The scent of a man, the body of a man, it made Duan Qingqing feel momentarily dizzy.

It had been so long since Meng Chaojun, because of his illness, had lost interest in marital affairs. Even if he was interested, he hadn’t the strength, and Duan Qingqing’s sensitivities were now exceptionally heightened.

”Xiao Xin, let me go...”

She uttered these words feebly and softly.

”Qingqing, I don’t want to let go...” Gu Xin also seemed agitated, struggling to control himself as he leaned in close, pressing his lips against hers.

Meng Family.

After Duan Qingqing left with the child, the Meng family finally settled down.

It was then that Meng Xinian turned to the somewhat awkwardly waiting Meng Cunhui and his son, Meng Sheng.

”Uncle Hui, have you been busy lately?”

”Not busy, not busy at all. I don’t have much to do. Just staying at home, reading the newspaper, listening to the radio, and such,” Meng Cunhui hurriedly replied.

He always felt under pressure in front of Meng Xinian.

In truth, he had no work to find. The household’s finances were still in poor shape. Meng Sheng, working at a small public security office, didn’t earn much salary and had to support his wife and children.

His youngest son, Meng Fan, was still a Supervisor Guard, and although he got a small allowance each month, it wasn’t enough for much.

Both he and his wife were uneducated and unskilled, genuinely at a loss about what kind of work they could do.
