Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1189: Chapter 1190: Mentioning Chiang Xiao

”Who is this?”

As soon as Chen Kaijin entered, she spotted Ge Dejun, though he had remained silent.

Chiang Songhai said, ”This is your mother’s younger brother, you should call him uncle.”

”So you’re my uncle, look at me, coming here for the first time and not recognizing anyone in the family, it’s really embarrassing,” Chen Kaijin hurriedly said.

”What’s embarrassing or not embarrassing, it’s fine,” Ge Dejun waved his hand dismissively.

Chen Sue almost couldn’t help but laugh again.

Embarrassing, what does he mean by ’what’s embarrassing or not embarrassing’?

Country folks, truly uneducated.

”Qingjiang’s wife, why did you suddenly come? Didn’t Qingjiang come with you?” Chiang Songhai was still very curious about the purpose of their sudden return to the village.

Chen Kaijin sighed and said, ”Dad, actually I should have come back to visit my hometown earlier, Qingjiang also had long been thinking about bringing me back to see you and mom. But I’m to blame; I’ve always been in poor health, weak from a young age, and I get so sick on long car rides that I’d end up vomiting uncontrollably. Later, after having children, I really couldn’t leave them.”

”In the past two or three years, Qingjiang also had a tough time outside, not earning enough money, not even able to afford the bus fare for the family, so even though he wanted to come back, he was powerless. We really let you and mom down.”

Hearing her say this, Chiang Songhai felt some of his dissatisfaction with Deng Qingjiang fade away.

In previous years, earning money outside wasn’t that easy, right?

That, he believed.

Besides, if you really live far away, returning home indeed isn’t convenient.

However, not even telling them where they were staying, that was something Chiang Songhai had always held a grudge about.

”So how is the family doing now? How many kids? How old are they?”

Indeed, Deng Qingjiang hardly made a phone call every few years, so as a grandfather, he didn’t even know how many grandchildren he had. He suspected that Deng Qingjiang might not even have mentioned to the kids that they had grandparents in the countryside.

”Just two children, one boy and one girl. The older one is the brother, nine years old. The younger one is the sister, seven this year.”

”How come you didn’t bring them to visit? Now that you’re here, who’s taking care of them?” Chiang Songhai was happy to learn that he had a pair of grandchildren.

Chen Kaijin showed not a hint of impatience, answered all questions, and maintained a gentle tone throughout.

”They’re on school vacation now, but their grades aren’t very good, so I sent them to a tutoring class. Their uncle and aunt, oh, that’s my older brother and sister-in-law, they will help take care of them. Because the journey is quite far, I didn’t bring them along this time. However, when they found out I was coming here, they also made a fuss about wanting to see their grandparents and their sister.”

Chen Kaijin looked around as she spoke, as if casually asking, ”Speaking of their sister, Dad, where is Chiang Xiao? Why isn’t she at home?”

”Qingjiang mentioned Little to you?” Ge Liutao came over with several cups of tea.

When Chen Sue saw the cups were polished to a shine, she quickly took one and cautiously took a sip.

Exhausted from the long car ride, she was dying of thirst, but seeing the cups Ho Laidi and the others had, she hadn’t dared to drink.

Now she could finally enjoy some tea.

After just one sip, her eyes lit up, ”This tea is so fragrant!”

And so delicious.

She hadn’t expected to drink such fragrant and tasty chrysanthemum tea here.

”It’s all thanks to Little, indeed it’s delicious,” Ge Liutao smiled as she spoke.

Chen Kaijin also took a sip, mmm, indeed it was very tasty.
