Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1190: Chapter 1191: Holding Back

”Qingjiang mentioned her, of course,” Chen Kaijin said. ”He also said that Chiang Xiao has always seemed very smart and is also very fair and pretty. I was just thinking earlier that I couldn’t wait to meet her; she should also be on summer break.”

”She’s on break, but she had some business to handle today, and I don’t know when she will be back.” Chiang Songhai, at this moment, longed for Chiang Xiao to be here more than anyone else.

When she’s here, he feels like he has a backbone.

It’s funny to even say this, but right now, for their family, Chiang Xiao indeed is like the backbone.

So far, Chen Kaijin had given him a good feeling, and she seemed close to them without a hint of the city dweller’s airs. But still, Chiang Songhai couldn’t help but be a bit reserved.

He felt he needed to observe more or have Chiang Xiao here to confirm his opinion before he could be completely at ease. Otherwise, he was always a little bit on guard.

For instance, he wouldn’t directly say that Chiang Xiao had gone up to the mountains.

Nor would he say that she was with her fiancé.

He just said that she had some things to take care of.

However, Chen Kaijin was surprised to hear this, ”She’s not going to be away for the whole night, is she? Dad, I remember Chiang Xiao is only about fifteen or sixteen years old, right?”

”Sixteen.”

”At sixteen, she’s still just a child.”

”It’s alright, Little is quite savvy,” Ge Dejun chimed in.

Chen Kaijin wanted to say, really, savvy?

Deng Qingjiang had clearly said she was introverted, the kind of kid who seems to overthink things.

Now she was actually very curious about Chiang Xiao and wanted to meet her.

”I see, I really do want to see what Chiang Xiao, who Qingjiang keeps saying is so pretty, looks like.”

”You’ll have the chance. Qingjiang’s Wife, you haven’t said yet, how come you suddenly came back this time? Is there an issue?” Chiang Songhai asked again.

Chen Kaijin smiled and said, ”Is there an issue? Dad, the thing is, Qingjiang has been dealing in some timber business, and business is alright. Plus, my health has improved this year. So I had a talk with Qingjiang about coming back to the village to see you and Mom, then taking you and Chiang Xiao out with me to live elsewhere for a while. I want to take good care of you all.”

Upon hearing this, both Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao were startled.

Was that the purpose?

To come to visit them and also to take them out for some fun?

Ge Dejun asked, ”May I ask where exactly Qingjiang is doing his timber business?”

Chen Kaijin replied, ”In Province X. But we’re not in the provincial capital; we are in a county town just below it. It isn’t far from the provincial capital, and the scenery there is really quite nice.”

”Province X, that’s quite far from here,” Ge Dejun exclaimed. ”Did you guys drive here yourselves? The car outside is yours, right?”

”Ours? No, it belongs to my elder brother. He also has some business over there, and it isn’t going too badly. The car is theirs, and the driver, too, is hired by them. We just borrowed their car and services. It’s handy to have your own transportation, so you can rest whenever you feel uncomfortable; there was nothing else I could do.”

Chen Kaijin said with a smile.

Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao exchanged glances.

”It’s been so many years, and we’re only now finding out Qingjiang is in Province X. We used to hear him talk about being a carpenter, and now he’s moved onto the timber business? That’s good too, good too.”

”Dad, that’s because our area has a lot of forests and trees. There are quite a few people in the timber business there. We just followed along and learned from them; it’s a bit better than being a carpenter. It’s just that recently, Qingjiang is negotiating a big deal, so he couldn’t personally come over.”
