Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1188: Chapter 1189: First Meeting

But the elderly couple in front of her could hardly be considered old.

They appeared to be only about fifty years old, and they both had thick black hair and plump, ruddy cheeks. Their clothes were tidy and well-fitted, even fashionable, and they wore sandals that cost twenty or thirty yuan.

It really wasn’t cheap.

They looked like city people, not at all like the poor old farmers from this village.

”Dad? Mom?” Chen Kaijin was somewhat unsure now. Could she have mistaken someone else for Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao?

”Are you, Qingjiang’s wife?” Ge Liutao sized up Chen Kaijin.

This was nominally their daughter-in-law, but it was the first time they met, and the first time they heard her call them mom and dad.

Chen Kaijin, realizing she hadn’t mistaken the people, breathed a sigh of relief yet felt quite astonished.

It really was Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao!

”It’s me, mom and dad, I finally get to see you!” Chen Kaijin hurried forward, ”And this is my sister, Sue!”

”Hello, Uncle and Auntie!” Chen Sue also quickly showed a smile.

Regardless, seeing Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao made her feel much more comfortable.

She really couldn’t manage a smile when facing Ho Laidi.

Ho Laidi’s hair looked as greasy as if it hadn’t been washed in three or four days, her face seemed unwashed as well, her teeth were yellow, and her breath smelled bad.

The clothes she wore seemed stained and unwashed, her trousers were patched at the knees, but even the patch was quite unsightly. She wore plastic flip-flops, still with chicken feces on the bottom, and her nails and the cracks in the skin of her heels were all black and peeling.

In short, facing Ho Laidi made her genuinely want to vomit.

Now, Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao looked exceptionally clean and tidy, and they seemed very spirited.

”Eh, eh. Come in and sit.”

Regardless, although Chiang Songhai and Ge Liutao were disappointed with Deng Qingjiang and found him unreliable, they were still delighted since now his wife was here, calling them mom and dad so familiarly.

After all, they had raised their son for many years; if they could rekindle this familial affection, it would mean that Chiang Xiao would have real uncles and aunts.

Moreover, in their old age, they would also have a son and grandchildren to honor them.

So, they were quite happy and welcoming of Chen Kaijin’s arrival.

As the Chen Sisters walked in, they noticed that Chiang Family’s house, although simple, was different from the neighbors—it was very clean and tidy.

Everything was neatly arranged, and there were no strange smells in the house.

This settled the sisters quite a bit more.

Once seated, Ge Liutao asked them what kind of tea they would like to drink.

The Chen Sisters were even more surprised; it was impressive enough to be offered tea in the countryside, much less a choice of which one.

It was a habit Ge Liutao had developed. Normally, Chiang Xiao kept various teas at home, some designated just for family and others suitable for guests.

”The weather’s hot, how about I brew you both some chrysanthemum tea to cool down?” Seeing that they hadn’t responded, Ge Liutao added.

”Sure, that would be great. Mom, shall I do it?” Chen Kaijin stood up, offering to help.

”Oh no, no need, you sit down. It’s your first time here, and you’re not familiar with everything,” Ge Liutao insisted.

Hearing this, Chen Kaijin relaxed slightly, relieved that at least their personalities seemed just as Qingjiang had described.
