Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 711: Chapter 712 Truly Don’t Recognize

Is he not resting well here?

The implication is quite clear: they no longer treat him as one of their own.

Gao Wei, who was naturally very proud and self-confident, angrily slammed the door and left after hearing Father Fong’s words.

Father Fong picked up the chair that had fallen to the ground, sat down, and said to Fong Jianye, ”Jianye, Gao Wei’s father paid all the expenses, and he said to me that he didn’t know things were like this. He said he’d give Gao Wei a good talking to when he got back, explaining that Gao Wei panics easily and his mind goes blank, and that he probably just didn’t know what to do and wanted an adult to take charge. He asked us not to take it out on his son, and he added, if you really can’t get over your anger, feel free to hit him back with the nunchucks you used before. What do you think of that?”

Fong Jianye said in a heavy voice, ”He knows full well I would never do such a thing, so what’s the point of saying that?”

Gao Wei hitting him on the head was indeed an accident, and he was quite aware of this.

Would Gao’s father really act as if nothing had happened if he had actually taken the nunchucks and knocked Gao Wei out?

Impossible.

So, the words Gao’s father said were merely for show, just public relations talk.

Fong Jianye was still able to discern this.

Father Fong nodded and said, ”Exactly, which is why I didn’t hesitate to let him pay the expenses, but let’s not say anything more about it. Just keep it in mind for the future. Stay away from Gao Wei—he’s really not worth it.”

Fong Jianye nodded in understanding.

He had decided long ago that he really shouldn’t be too close with Gao Wei.

That wasn’t a friend worth having.

”But Meng Xinian, on the other hand, I’ve come to admire him through this incident. You and Gao Wei were going to find trouble with him, and when things went awry, it was him who brought you to the hospital.”

”Dad, don’t overthink it. Even if Meng Xinian and I are no longer rivals, we can definitely not become friends,” Fong Jianye said somewhat disheartened.

That’s right, he and Meng Xinian could truly never be friends.

In the past, he and Gao Wei had done so many things to Meng Xinian, he himself couldn’t even keep count.

Father Fong was somewhat disappointed to hear him say this. But then he quickly thought of Chiang Xiao.

”That girl from that day, you really don’t know her?”

Fong Jianye shook his head, ”I really don’t.”

He had heard after waking up that he had been continuously unconscious, but then a girl had rushed out, helped Meng Xinian break away from the encirclement, and claimed she could wake him up.

Later, when the Fong Family asked him how he felt, Fong Jianye recalled that at the time, his memory was blurry; he remembered a hand pinching his cheek and it seemed like he was given some water to drink.

The water was cool and sweet in a way he had never tasted before.

He remembered swallowing it in one gulp.

And then he woke up.

Thinking back on it, it seemed quite miraculous.

But it wasn’t just him who found it miraculous.

The Fong Family and the doctors all thought it was too incredulous to believe.

Now, they were speculating that the girl must have had some very precious potion on her.

”We all want to find that girl and properly thank her, but we haven’t been able to find her. It seems Meng Chaojun and Duan Qingqing don’t know about her existence either. Who do you think she could be to Meng Xinian?”

”I wouldn’t know,” Fong Jianye replied hurriedly. ”I haven’t heard about any girl associated with Meng Xinian... wait, hold on, I seem to remember hearing he was already betrothed. Dad, do you think that girl could be Meng Xinian’s fiancée?”
