Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 708: Chapter 709: Inviting the Wolf into the House

Meng Xinian’s face had already turned darker than the bottom of a pot.

How preposterous!

First, they said he was twenty-five, then they outright tried to steal his corner by wanting to take Chiang Xiaoxiao back to their house to meet their grandson!

That Tang Qing kid, seventeen years old, still wet behind the ears!

He really couldn’t believe Chiang Xiaoxiao would take a fancy to him!

Chiang Xiao held back her laughter throughout, watching Meng Xinian’s face black as an inkstone, the more she thought about it, the funnier it became. She knew just how much Meng Xinian minded the age difference issue, and yet here it was being brought up everywhere.

”Grandpa Tang, Chiang Xiao is my fiancée,” Meng Xinian said, gritting his teeth to suppress the urge to explode.

Old Tang was dismissive, ”Xiao Chiang is how old now? Still a child, what does betrothal count for? You can’t do anything.”

”Pfft.” Chiang Xiao couldn’t help but burst out laughing.

Old Tang immediately turned to persuade her, ”Xiao Chiang, let me tell you, my grandson is named Tang Qing, with a fair and handsome face, and moreover, he’s smart, that boy...”

”Grandpa Tang, Chiang Xiao likes someone mature and steady,” Meng Xinian said, his face dark, as he looked toward Chiang Xiao and asked, ”Right, Chiang Xiaoxiao?”

His last question carried a somewhat threatening tone, as if she dared to shake her head and say no, he seemed ready to pounce and bite her neck.

Seeing that he was really about to lose it, Chiang Xiao didn’t dare to tease him anymore and hastily nodded her head in agreement.

Old Tang was utterly persistent, adding, ”Mature and steady? Give Tang Qing a few more years and he will certainly be that type, and most importantly, Xiao Chiang, you are still young now. When you grow to seventeen or eighteen, Tang Qing will be just mature and steady enough, a perfect match for you...”

To hell with his ’perfect match’!

Meng Xinian slammed the menu onto the table, took Chiang Xiao’s hand, his face dark as he dropped a phrase, ”I just remembered there’s something important I have to do with Chiang Xiaoxiao, you all eat by yourselves, put the bill on my old man’s tab!”

Who made him bring these old men here? Especially Old Master Tang!

Actually wanting to chip away at his corner, how outrageous!

Watching him walk away in a huff, Meng Donghai finally couldn’t hold back his laughter, slapping his thigh as he said to Old Tang, ”Old Tang, you’re really something! This is the first time I’ve ever seen Xinian so flustered! You did manage to get him all riled up!”

Old Tang glanced at him askance, ”Old Meng, when did I say I was teasing him?”

Old Meng’s face turned dark instantly, ”You old rascal, what do you mean by that? Don’t tell me you really want to set my granddaughter-in-law up with your grandson?”

”Of course! Old Meng, you also know the situation in my family, it’s impossible for Tang Qing to find someone of notable family background now, others would definitely look down on us, but I find Xiao Chiang quite good, we don’t consider family backgrounds, just her poised and graceful demeanor, not fawning or shrinking in front of us old timers. I think a girl like her is just the kind Tang Qing should find. They could support each other in the future and revive the Tang family.”

Old Tang became more convinced the more he talked, but Old Meng became more and more irritated as he listened.

Finally, he slapped the table, ”Old Tang, would you stop daydreaming? Xiao Chiang is already my granddaughter-in-law! You still want to snatch her, do you have no shame at all?”

How could this be, had he brought a wolf into his house?

He merely wanted to show off to them initially, but he hadn’t expected Old Tang to have such good taste! Almost catching up to him!

”Xiao Chiang is how old now, this kind of kiddie relationship, you say it’s over and it’s over! Anyway, I don’t care, I’m going to go back and talk to Tang Qing, let him find a chance to get to know Xiao Chiang, starting with letters would be good!”
