Destined Entwining: Capturing My Devoted Beau

Chapter 979: Chapter 468: Which Is Closer (First Update)

Alice Blythe chuckled awkwardly and quickly glanced at William, saying, ”That’s not it...”

Mr. Blythe stood up from the sofa and said, ”Alice, what do you want to eat? I’ll get it for you.”

”...No need, just bread and milk will do. I haven’t been eating these days; I’m almost unable to move.”

William hurriedly said, ”Uncle, I’ll go buy it. I know what Alice likes to eat best.” With that, he stood up and swiftly walked out.

After he left, Mr. and Mrs. Blythe seemed unsure of how to speak with Alice, finally saying, ”Alice, this Great Heavenly Master, Lawrence Winters, is very capable. If you have any worries, you can share them with her; maybe she can help you.” Saying this, they also left Alice’s bedroom.

Lawrence Winters actually wanted to leave too, but Alice looked so pitiful.

She watched the light in the girl’s eyes gradually fade after seeing William.

As if the hope that had just arisen was extinguished by him.

Lawrence Winters was a bit puzzled about why this happened.

Moreover, the Blythe couple were the clients. They said the case wasn’t over yet, meaning it wasn’t over. They were still in the race, and the Peony Group celebrated too early.

Lawrence Winters decided to stay, closing the room door considerately and leaving the drones peeking from the corridor outside.

She walked over to Alice Blythe, sitting on the carpet beside her, crossing her legs, and said with a smile, ”I saw you with an IV drip in your arm yesterday. Who took it out for you?”

Alice Blythe touched her arm and whispered, ”...A caregiver came this morning and took it out.”

”Oh, came so early?”

”My parents called her to come.”

Lawrence understood the Blythe couple had begun to investigate Alice’s caregiver.

She didn’t continue on this topic either but instead touched Alice’s arm, thin like a stick, and sighed, ”You’re really too thin, you need to eat well and strengthen your body.”

Alice Blythe didn’t seem like an outgoing person, but Lawrence Winters could be quite talkative and easygoing when she wanted.

When she was cordial, there was a comforting magic in her demeanor.

Therefore, as Lawrence Winters chatted with Alice from diet and fitness to skincare, and even this year’s fashion trend, Alice gradually opened up.

Soon enough, she treated Lawrence like a close friend, confiding in her.

While Lawrence Winters inwardly reflected ”greenhouse flowers are so easy to deceive,” she patiently listened to Alice talk.

Alice Blythe started hesitantly at first, but soon became fluent and relaxed.

She even opened her wardrobe, inviting Lawrence inside to see her collection of bags, clothes, and shoes.

Lawrence Winters nodded in appreciation, saying, ”You even have this style of the Hermès Kelly bag! I thought this model was discontinued years ago!”

”I bought it from a foreign second-hand market. This style, the unused second-hand ones, sell for more than brand new bags now!” Alice Blythe was glad to have found a ”peer” to connect with and her impression of Lawrence improved further.

Lawrence chatted with her for half an hour until William knocked again, saying breakfast was ready, and invited Alice to go out and eat, which made Alice’s expression turn cold again.

Lawrence Winters then softly asked, ”Alice... do you dislike your cousin?”

”Is it for me to decide whether I like him or not? As long as my parents like him, it’s enough.” Alice said this with reddened eyes, then turned around to wipe away her tears.

Lawrence Winters completely understood.

She embraced Alice’s shoulder, turning her around, and gently said, ”Do you feel your parents treat your cousin better? So you’re envious of him?”

”I’m not envious,” Alice shook her head, ”I just steer clear. My parents always wanted a son; I’m just a daughter. William, he’s the son they wanted.”

Lawrence couldn’t understand this preference for sons, though she’d seen it often.

The most familiar example was Kenneth Osborne’s family, where Mr. and Mrs. Osborne favored sons to such an extent it was almost unbelievable.

However, the Blythe family’s situation was different.

The Blythe couple had no sons, only one daughter.

If William were biologically theirs, Alice’s feelings of neglect would be understandable.

But for a cousin from another branch to take over?

Lawrence comfortedly patted her back, saying, ”Alice, don’t think like that. Your parents couldn’t possibly prefer William. Honestly, I’ve never met anyone more annoying and insufferable than William.”

”A raven pretending to be a magpie, as if people can’t see through it?”

In truth, Lawrence had met people more annoying than William before, but she knew saying this would resonate deeply with Alice.

Sure enough, Alice immediately lifted her head, asking eagerly, ”...Really? You dislike William too? But all my friends, my parents, and those relatives, upon meeting William, think he’s better than me...”

”How can that be?!” Lawrence denied emphatically, ”I don’t know your friends and relatives, but I’m familiar with Mr. and Mrs. Blythe. They definitely couldn’t prefer William!”

Outside, William had knocked on the door for ages. Seeing it unopened, he took a key from the mat in front of the door and directly unlocked Alice’s bedroom door.

Alice and Lawrence were still talking in the closet, startled by the sound of someone opening the door.

”...How did he get in?” Lawrence curiously stood up.

Alice’s little face fell, ”The key to my bedroom is under the mat at the door.”

Lawrence: ”...”

Hmph, a seventeen-year-old girl, with no privacy at all.

Her mind swirling, she came out first, intentionally telling Alice, ”Alice, you need new locks for your bedroom. This isn’t safe at all; you have no privacy.”

William, understanding Lawrence’s implied criticism, said indifferently, ”I’m her cousin; can’t I use a key to enter?”

”Sir, are you aware of the saying, ’girls avoid fathers, boys avoid mothers’? As children grow, even biological parents need to be avoided, let alone you, just a cousin from another branch?”

She extended a hand towards William, ”Hand over the keys. Also, any spare keys you have. Alice is already seventeen; she doesn’t need a cousin in his twenties coming and going freely in her bedroom. You may have no shame, but we do.”

”How can you say that? I know you’re filming a program. Acting like this, I’ll complain to the crew about you.” William’s face darkened, with no intention of handing over the keys.
