Wizard: I Add Points and Hunt Monsters

Nearby, Kali wore a thoughtful expression, vaguely understanding why the city-state’s leadership was acting this way.

’Just as I want to gain the support of some of the Dawn Church’s Holy Professionals, their goal is probably to get the Secret Investigation Department under their control.’

”Sooner or later, I’m going to settle the score with those parasites from the Council!” Lisi slammed her fist on the table in frustration.

Wei’en didn’t care who became Director. Whether it was Nifa or Balats, it had little to do with him.

He was more concerned about the prophecy Lisi had mentioned—

”Captain, you mentioned a prophecy just now?”

”When gunfire sounds, the death knell tolls. Death descends, a step into the Abyss of Despair, or eternal life in the Dawn.”

Lisi recalled, ”According to Director Nifa’s prophecy, the ’gunfire’ refers to Director Ales. As the Director of the Secret Investigation Department, it’s fitting to use the Department’s ’gunfire’ symbol to represent him.”

Wei’en pondered the prophecy’s contents. After a moment’s thought, he said, ”That explanation makes sense for the first two lines, but what about ’Death descends’?”

”It means another crisis is coming,” Lisi said, taking a deep breath and pulling herself together. ”That’s why the higher-ups just sent word. We are to remain vigilant during this time, ready to respond to any potential threats.”

Lydia spoke up, ”Could it be the Abyssal Sect again? After all, what Wei’en just mentioned is a possibility...”

”I’ll pass on the information about Bolsen not being dead to my superiors and request to continue the investigation into the Abyssal Sect. Speaking of which, Wei’en...”

”Hm?”

Wei’en snapped out of it. He was still thinking about the prophecy. ’I just feel like the interpretation from the prophet, Director Nifa, isn’t quite right.’

Lisi forced a stiff smile. ”That gun you mentioned. I want to see its power for myself.”

”Uh... right now? Isn’t this a bad time?”

”Come on. It’s been a few days since our last duel. Let me see the progress you’ve made.”

Wei’en wanted to refuse, but he couldn’t think of a good reason, so he had no choice but to nod in agreement.

The group then left the office. After Lisi finished her report on Bolsen, they headed to the Gladiatorial Arena out back.

Wei’en was relieved to see Lisi report the matter about Bolsen.

He had done what he could. ’Now I just have to hope that the terrible disaster from that damned prophecy doesn’t actually happen.’

At the same time, Wei’en knew full well why Lisi wanted to duel him. ’It’s mostly because she wants to vent her frustrations. Testing the sniper rifle’s power is just a small part of it.’

’But the power of that sniper rifle is really hard to control... I’m honestly afraid I might kill Lisi with one shot.’

As for Kali and the others, they came along to watch, hoping for a distraction and also curious about his gun.

It was better than staying in the office, dwelling on what happened to Director Ales.

’Yeah, especially Marco!’

”Come on.”

Sure enough, once inside the Gladiatorial Arena, Lisi’s frustration and gloominess vanished. She clenched her fists, rolled her neck, and said, ”I hope you’ve improved enough, Wei’en.”

”...Captain, are there any targets for testing a weapon’s power? How about you see what the gun can do first, and then we’ll talk?”

”Oh? So what you’re saying is, you’re worried you might hurt me?” The corners of Lisi’s mouth curled up, and her expression grew even more excited. ”I love confident guys like you. Not like Marco, who’s a total wuss.”

”I...”

”Hey now, Captain Lisi, you can’t just insult a guy like that. How about I have a duel with you before Wei’en gets his turn?”

”You?” Lisi shot him a glance filled with obvious disdain.

”That’s right, me.”

Before Wei’en could say anything, Marco beat him to it and leaped into the Gladiatorial Arena, the Lamp Staff appearing in his hand. ”Come on, Captain! Let me show you the progress I’ve made!”

”Brave of you, but still weak...” Lisi didn’t refuse this time, shaking her head as she spoke.

”Zack, Broo, Zack.” (Gentle Spirit Wind.)

Before she could finish, Marco had already cast a spell with his Lamp Staff. His body blurred as he rushed toward Lisi, activating his Extraordinary Bloodline at the same time.

”Apu, Elder, Lior!” (Blood of Chaos!)

”You’re really going for it?!”

Lisi watched him in surprise. ’Fine by me, this will make for a more satisfying fight.’ ”Kase, Tefano, Vich!” (Dharma Seal: Dueling Cage!)

Pitch-black chains spiraled out, their ends forming a Bone Claw that glinted with a metallic luster. Gripping the handle of a two-handed axe, the chains formed a cage and enclosed the two fighters.

In an instant, fists and the Lamp Staff collided. The two fighters, one large and one small, blurred into afterimages as they fought fiercely.

BANG, BANG...

Watching the two fight in the arena, Wei’en felt a sense of relief. ’I was really afraid a full-power shot from the sniper rifle would have killed Lisi outright.’

At the same time, he had to admit that Lisi and Marco’s visceral, hand-to-hand style of combat was a better way to vent their feelings.

”They’re... so strong.”

Kali, who was watching from the side, was slightly agape. ”I’ve seen Captain Lisi fight before, but I never expected Marco to be this strong.”

”Aren’t you a Candidacy Saintess from the Dawn Church? You must be pretty strong yourself, right?” Lydia asked curiously.

”No, it’s different. I practice in the support branch of the Dawn faith. I’m not suited for fighting like they do.”

”The support branch? I heard the Dawn Church is divided into four branches, is that right?”

Kali hesitated for a moment before replying, ”Yes, there are four branches. They are the Support Branch, the Guardian Branch, the Judgment Branch, and finally, the Ascetic Order.”

”That sounds amazing,” Lydia said with envy. ”It must be nice. If only I were an Extraordinary, too...”
