Wizard: I Add Points and Hunt Monsters

’A Shadow Transformer?’

Harrington’s expression was conflicted. After a long moment, he sighed softly and looked at Lin Qiaoya. ”My apologies, Professor. It’s my fault you had to go through something like this.”

”Vice Speaker, you’ve arrived just in time. I trust you’ve seen the application I submitted yesterday.” Lin Qiaoya, having already accepted his fate, spoke with grim formality. ”The City-State Array is facing a major problem. We were just discussing how to resolve...”

”Hold on!”

Harrington cut him off, then turned to Yegor and Lisi. ”Minister Yegor, the Council will take charge here. Please take your people from the Secret Investigation Department and leave.”

”Hm? Vice Speaker, what’s that supposed to mean?” Lisi’s eyes narrowed as she scoffed.

”This is the Council’s decision!”

”You...”

”Are you sure about that?”

Before Lisi could continue, Yegor stepped forward, looming over Harrington. ”Are you sure the Council wishes to take full responsibility for the City-State Array, including all subsequent repairs?”

”Of course!” Harrington said forcefully. ”Now, please leave. Besides, I imagine you haven’t heard the news?”

Lisi and Yegor exchanged a look. ”Heard what?”

”Early this morning, your Director, Ales, was killed in the line of duty...”

Yegor violently grabbed him by the collar. He radiated a terrifying aura, as if he was ready to kill everyone in the room.

”Do you have any idea what you’re saying?”

Lisi was equally displeased. ”Vice Speaker Harrington, you’ve gone too far!”

”I... I...” Harrington’s face flushed red as he was lifted into the air. ”What... I said... is true...”

”Let go of the Vice Speaker! Your Director has indeed been killed. And just moments ago, a new Director for the Secret Investigation Department was appointed.”

”Who?”

”Ni... Nifa...”

BANG!

Hearing that name, Yegor’s expression turned cold. He slammed Harrington to the ground and turned to leave. ”We’re going!”

Lisi hurried after him. She was beginning to believe that something had truly gone wrong within the Secret Investigation Department.

”Damn it. Those people from the Secret Investigation Department have no manners whatsoever.”

Harrington’s face was grim. In the span of just two hours, he had been repeatedly thwarted by the Secret Investigation Department. Anyone in his shoes would be in a foul mood.

”So what now?”

”Take control of the City-State Array immediately. I’ll report the matter of the repairs to Governor Samir.”

”Yes, Vice Speaker!”

Meanwhile, before leaving, Lisi made sure to notify Kali and Alicia, who were still in the stone tower. The four of them then rode a mechanical cart toward the Dumitru District, where the Secret Investigation Department was located.

As for the Array’s repairs... since the Council wanted to take over, they could figure it out themselves.

”Yegor, it can’t be true, can it? How could Director Ales have been killed?”

”We’ll find out when we get back!”

When Kali and Alicia first heard the news, they were both stunned.

’How could the Secret Investigation Department change so drastically overnight?’

The Guardian Knight, Melbel, who was serving as their temporary guard, followed the mechanical cart at an unhurried pace.

He didn’t seem to care whether Ales lived or died. Instead, he periodically glanced behind him, as if something was hidden there.

...

...

It wasn’t until noon that Lisi returned to the office with Kali.

”Captain, you’re back.” Seeing her return, a bit of light returned to Marco’s face. He asked hopefully, ”Is Director Ales okay?”

Lisi’s expression was somber. ”...No. It’s been confirmed that he was killed.”

Marco then looked to Kali, who was biting her lip. When she nodded, he murmured, ”So it’s really true...”

”Lisi... Captain, how was Director Ales killed? Does the Abyssal Sect have an Extraordinary that powerful?”

Wei’en knew that Matteo was very strong, but he had spent the entire morning unable to understand why Ales would go alone.

According to the news Marco had brought back, the Secret Investigation Department had arranged for two Vice Directors, Balats and Nifa, to go. How was it that Ales was the one who ended up dead?

Lisi took a deep breath. ”Minister Albert used a revealing potion to check the scene. The Director unleashed power beyond his limits to take the members of the Abyssal Sect down with him.”

”Take them down with him...”

’Isn’t that just suicide?’

Wei’en frowned. ”I don’t understand. Why would Director Ales do that? Clearly...”

”That’s what we can’t figure out, either. According to yesterday’s plan, the Director wasn’t supposed to get involved, but in the end, it was him.”

Lisi leaned back in her high-backed chair, rubbing her brow with a vexed expression.

”So, have the identities of the dead Abyssal Sect members been confirmed? Yesterday, while I was investigating that student of Lin Qiaoya’s, I ran into some people from the Abyssal Sect. One of them was their Favored One, Bolsen.”

”A Favored One?”

Lisi stopped rubbing her brow and stared at him sharply. ”Are you sure?”

”Positive. He admitted it himself at the time, and Reinhart, whom I killed, also corroborated it.”

Of course Wei’en was sure. He could still see the glaring name ’Bolsen Heikmei’ on his panel.

”Albert didn’t say what their specific identities were, only that two of them wore dark green robes and black masks.”

’The clothing matches.’

”Then it must have been them...”

’No, wait!’

Wei’en’s eyes narrowed. ’Something’s wrong!’

If he remembered correctly, when he encountered the Abyssal Creature Bolsen had contracted at the Clown Theater last night, hadn’t it said that Bolsen wasn’t dead?

He recalled the Thorn Demon’s exact words: ”Even now, all he can do is lie in bed and lick his wounds.” (Chapter 119)
