The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 382: Chapter 382: Famous Native Dog

Han Xiaoqing’s eyes lit up. ”A police dog base? How many puppies are there this time?”

Han Xiaorui replied, ”There are two hundred, all newborn puppies.”

”What breeds are they?” Han Xiaoqing asked. ”I like our native yellow dogs. I hope to see a lot of them.”

Han Xiaorui smiled. ”I don’t know either. We’ll find out when we go tomorrow, anyway. Bring your camera. We’ll take pictures tomorrow.”

”Okay!” Han Xiaoqing agreed and went into her room to get the film and camera.

On the weekend, Ye Feng was off work, spending time at home with Han Xiaorui and the children.

When he heard they were going to the police dog base, Ye Feng insisted, ”I want to go too. Police dogs were great partners for us back when I was on missions.”

”Alright, you can come,” Han Xiaorui said, her heart fluttering with excitement. She couldn’t wait to see all the cute dogs.

Dogs, cattle, donkeys, and horses are the most successful animals domesticated by our ancestors, and all are humanity’s good companions. Of them all, dogs are the smartest.

When Liang Xiaoyu found out they were going to the police dog base, she brought Cai Wenjun over too, hoping that exposing her child to more things would help him recover faster.

If her mother-in-law didn’t complain about dog hair being dirty, she would have definitely gotten a dog or two for their home.

Since they couldn’t have a dog, Cai Wenjun was especially fond of Pingping and An’an’s dogs, Dahuang and Heizi.

Now at the police dog base, Cai Wenjun was surrounded by so many adorable little puppies that he didn’t know where to look first.

When Officer Li saw Han Xiaorui arrive, he immediately called over a staff member. ”Mr. Wang, this is Han Xiaorui. From now on, she is the owner of the police dog base. You will all follow Comrade Xiao Han’s arrangements.”

Mr. Wang had seen the police dogs Han Xiaorui had trained; they were top-tier in the country, even in the world.

”Mr. Han, hello. In the future, if you have any instructions, just let us know. We will carry them out without fail.”

Han Xiaorui smiled and handed Mr. Wang a small booklet. ”There aren’t actually that many rules. Just follow the standard manual.”

Mr. Wang took it. ”I will lead the trainers in studying it carefully.”

Han Xiaorui requested, ”Can you take us to see the puppies now? The children were so excited to see them that they woke up at six this morning.”

”This way, please!” Mr. Wang led the way.

When they arrived at the kennels, the cages were all filled with little puppies.

Although the cages weren’t small, they still restricted the puppies’ movements.

Mr. Wang explained, ”Most of the dogs here are native breeds, like the common Xiaocang Rural Dog, one of the most common types of Chinese Rural Dogs. They are highly adaptable to various environments and have excellent guarding instincts, making them perfect watchdogs. Your Dahuang is a prime example. We’re all very envious of Dahuang.”

At that moment, Pingping raised her little hand. ”Dahuang is the best.”

An’an retorted, ”Heizi is the best.”

Han Xiaorui patted her two daughters’ heads. ”They’re both the best. Now be quiet and listen to what the uncle has to say.”

Pingping and An’an fell silent and listened carefully to Mr. Wang’s introduction.

Mr. Wang smiled and continued, ”Next is the Tabby Hound. It was once a royal hunting dog in southern China, but it has become very rare now. This breed is exceptionally intelligent and can not only serve as a watchdog but also excel at hunting. Tabby Hounds typically have a strong, agile build, and their name comes from their unique tiger-striped coat, which makes them look like little leopards.”

Cai Wenjun’s eyes were practically glued to the Tabby Hound. ”Mom, I want this tiger dog, I want... I want...”

Liang Xiaoyu didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. She pulled back her son, who was about to throw a tantrum. ”Your grandma isn’t well, so we can’t have a dog. If you want to see them in the future, we can come here. If you want to play with puppies, you can go to Auntie Xiao Rui’s house.”

”Don’t make a fuss now, or Mom won’t bring you here to play anymore. Auntie Xiao Rui, Pingping, and An’an won’t like you either, and Uncle Ye won’t play with you.”

Hearing this, Cai Wenjun had to choose between getting a dog and his friends. He ultimately chose his friends, obediently stepping back and staring longingly at the puppies.

Mr. Wang was especially proud; these were all superior breeds selected from all over the country. ”Next is the Xiquan, an ancient dog breed that comes in long-haired and short-haired varieties. They have slender bodies but possess immense explosive power, running fast and jumping high. The Xiquan is loyal to its owner and is suitable as a guard dog and hunting dog.”

”The Five-red Dog gets its name because its nose, mouth, eyes, paws, and anus are all red. This special breed has a stable temperament and won’t easily attack strangers, but it will remain vigilant and bark to alert its owner. There’s also a folk legend that the Five-red Dog brings good luck, which makes them very popular.”

”The Hua Country Kunming Dog is a breed independently developed by our country’s Ministry of Public Security Kunming Police Dog Base. There are three color varieties: wolf-grey, straw-yellow, and black-backed. Selective breeding began in 1953, and the breed was successfully established in 1964. It is highly adaptable to plateau climates, severe cold, and high temperatures.”

”In the military and public security criminal investigation fields, it is widely used for border patrols, crime-solving, and detecting drugs and explosives. It can also serve as a guard dog for organizations and individuals. It adapts to various climates, especially high-altitude ones, and has distinct characteristics in tracking, identification, and bite work. This dog has a fierce temperament and is prone to aggression, showing strong hostility towards strangers. Although it is extremely affectionate with its owner, it requires careful management in crowded areas.”

The Kunming Dogs were the most numerous and were also the primary focus of the breeding program. (The police dogs we usually see are mostly Kunming Dogs.)

The Kunming Dogs, one after another, had alert and particularly fierce eyes. Even as puppies, they had a powerful presence. They were adorably fierce, baring their teeth constantly.

Dahei’s build was similar to a Kunming Dog’s, but its coat was entirely black.

Han Xiaorui looked at them and had to admit that police dogs, having been selectively bred and trained by humans, were indeed superior in all aspects of performance.

However, that didn’t mean the other dogs weren’t good; they just didn’t have as many advantages as the Kunming Dogs.

”They’re all such wonderful dogs!” Han Xiaorui praised. The trainers at the police dog base were also very dedicated, taking excellent care of the puppies.

She then went to check the dog food, taking notes in her notebook.

At noon, they also had lunch at the police dog base, after which the children played with the puppies for a good while.

Now, Pingping and An’an liked this puppy, and that one, and that one over there.

”Mommy, let’s take it home.”

”Daddy, let’s take them all home.”

They wanted to take all the puppies home with them.

These were future police dogs; how could they possibly let the girls take them? Besides, even if they could, they wouldn’t have room for all of them at home.

Mr. Wang was holding an adorable Pug, a breed originating from Tibet, China, also known as a ”Haba dog.” It’s a small and cute breed, popular for its small size and black face.

They have a gentle temperament, are good with children, and are suitable for raising in a city environment.

The moment they saw the pug, Pingping and An’an were no longer the best of sisters.

”My puppy.”

”Mine, it’s mine.”

Cai Wenjun rushed over too. ”I want it too...”

Han Xiaorui’s scalp tingled with dread. ’This Mr. Wang has really stirred up a hornet’s nest.’

’She has twins, so how could he show them just one pug? He should have brought at least one for each of them!’
