The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 373: Chapter 373: Got into Trouble

Hearing this, Han Xiaorui shook her head and gave a wry laugh. ”I wish that were true, but not all parents in the world are like yours.”

”Actually, my parents and brother weren’t having a hard time back home. Their house was built, and they’d bought all the furniture. Plus, I used to give them money every month, so there’s no way they couldn’t make a living back in our hometown.”

”The only reason they’d ignore my warning and come to Shencheng is that they must have done something back home—gotten into trouble—and couldn’t stay there any longer.”

Liang Xiaoyu was slightly taken aback. ”Then you should call back home and ask around, have someone look into it! I can have my cousins keep an eye on them for you and slowly plant the idea of going abroad to work for money. When the time is right, smuggling them out of the country will seem like a natural next step.”

’Once they’re smuggled out, they’ll have no way of returning without any connections.’

After calming down, Han Xiaorui agreed that she needed to investigate.

”Sister-in-law Xiao Yu, could you please have your cousins get close to them first? Just to keep them settled for now.”

Liang Xiaoyu nodded. ”Don’t worry, that’s easy enough to handle. This can’t be rushed. We’ll take it slow!”

Knowing Han Xiaorui’s personality, she would have to get to the bottom of it, or she wouldn’t be able to rest. Besides, Liang Xiaoyu had connections. If Han Xiaorui needed help, all she had to do was step up.

Han Xiaorui called Han Xiaoqing’s guidance counselor, Teacher Zhao, and arranged to call back at 12:30 PM.

Teacher Zhao agreed and said she would inform Han Xiaoqing.

Han Xiaorui opened her home’s contact list and found the numbers for a few of Ye Feng’s comrades-in-arms.

Liu Zhan lived the closest to Han Xiaorui, and he also worked at the police station.

It would be quick and convenient for him to investigate these things.

Han Xiaorui called, but Liu Zhan was out responding to a call and wasn’t in the office.

The staff member who answered said they would leave a message for Liu Zhan to call her back when he returned.

About half an hour later, Han Xiaorui received a call from Liu Zhan.

”Xiao Rui, what did you need me for?” Liu Zhan asked. Now that Han Xiaorui was married to the captain, she was one of their own.

Besides, Han Xiaorui often sent them dried seafood.

Liu Zhan wasn’t a big fan of seafood himself, but for people like them from inland regions, it was a rare delicacy.

It made for a very respectable gift, whether for official purposes or just visiting friends and family.

They, his comrades, knew that Ye Feng not only supported the impoverished families of their fallen brothers-in-arms but also helped many of them find work to increase their income.

One of their comrades had his leg mangled in an explosion years ago and had to have it amputated.

Ye Feng had paid to get this comrade fitted with a prosthetic leg. While he couldn’t exactly run like the wind, he could now walk on his own and live independently.

If he had to rely on his military salary and subsidies, he could never have afforded such a high-quality prosthesis.

They were lucky to have a comrade-in-arms like Ye Feng. So, when it came to a request from Han Xiaorui or Ye Feng, his fellow comrades would do everything in their power to help.

Han Xiaorui replied, ”I do have something I need your help with. I’m sure you already know about the situation with my parents and brother, so I won’t go into detail!”

”They only behaved for less than a year, and now the whole family of four has shown up in Shencheng. They’re waiting outside my sister’s university to block her.”

”I want to know what happened back home that made them ignore my warning and sneak off to Shencheng.”

Hearing this, Liu Zhan paused. ”Even if something happened, it probably wasn’t reported to the police station. Otherwise, I would’ve heard about it. It must have been settled privately.”

”Don’t you worry. First, have someone calm them down. Don’t show your face; let the Captain handle it. I’ll make some inquiries directly from my end and call you back in a little while.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Thank you for your trouble, Liu Zhan.”

Liu Zhan laughed. ”It’s no trouble at all. It’s what I should do. And don’t worry, there’s always a way to solve a problem.”

”Thank you!” Han Xiaorui said before hanging up.

Initially, Han Xiaorui hadn’t planned on telling Ye Feng, but she knew how much he cared about her affairs.

He would be upset if she didn’t tell him.

So, Han Xiaorui called Ye Feng and told him everything, including the plan to have her parents smuggled out of the country.

Ye Feng was taken aback for a moment, then he chuckled. ”How could I let you handle something like this! No matter how awful they are, they’re still your biological parents.”

”If other people found out, even if they know how terrible your parents are, they’d still think you’re too ruthless. This is the kind of job a son-in-law should do! After all, there are plenty of black-hearted, shameless sons-in-law out there!”

Hearing this, Han Xiaorui burst out laughing. ”Is there really a son-in-law out there who trash-talks himself like you do?”

Ye Feng nodded. ”There is! Me! All right, I’ll come up with a plan for this. Just tell Sister-in-law Xiao Yu to hold off for now.”

Han Xiaorui was surprised. ”What kind of plan do you have in mind?”

Ye Feng smiled, full of confidence. ”A plan with no loose ends! Just give me half a day!”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Alright!”

At noon, Han Xiaorui received a call from her sister.

Han Xiaoqing reassured her sister, ”Sis, don’t worry about me! As long as I don’t leave the campus, they can’t get in! I’m perfectly safe!”

”When they get tired of waiting for me at the school gate, they’ll leave on their own! In any case, don’t you come over here, or they’ll latch onto you. You can’t just move or hide from them in Jinshan Bay. They’ll stick to you like stubborn candy you can’t shake off.”

Han Xiaorui’s heart ached hearing her sister’s words. ”Did they tell you why the whole family came running here?”

Han Xiaoqing replied, ”They didn’t say, but Xiao Yuan has a new wife. It’s not the same one as before!”

”I asked why, but they wouldn’t say! But they were avoiding eye contact. Something must have happened back home.”

Han Xiaorui had suspected as much. ”I understand. Stay on campus and don’t come out. Wherever you go, make sure you’re with classmates. Don’t go anywhere alone. Your brother-in-law and I will handle this!”

Han Xiaoqing agreed. ”I know, Sis. Don’t worry about me!”

After reassuring her sister, Han Xiaorui breathed a sigh of relief.

The arrival of her biological parents had left Han Xiaorui with a knot of anger pent up inside her.

’Some people think they can do whatever they want just because they’re my biological parents. Well, they’ve seriously miscalculated.’

’Han Xiaorui was not the original Han Xiaorui. She didn’t have deep feelings for the Han Family, and deep down, she didn’t even consider them her real parents.’

’As for her sister, Han Xiaoqing, it was only because Han Xiaoqing had selflessly helped her during her most difficult times that Han Xiaorui repaid her kindness in kind and treated her well.’

’In any case, she wasn’t alone now, so Han Xiaorui wasn’t in a rush.’

That evening, Han Xiaorui received a call from Liu Zhan. ”Liu Zhan, did you find something out? Why did they suddenly come to Shencheng?”

Liu Zhan’s voice came over the phone. ”Xiao Rui, I personally went to your hometown to investigate today. That family of yours... they’re on the run!”

Hearing this, Han Xiaorui’s heart sank. ”What on earth did they do back home?”
