The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 381: Chapter 381: The Chosen One

Han Xiaorui looked at Officer Li and asked with a smile, ”Comrade Li, is the police dog base really finished? I’ve only been away for half a month. It can’t possibly be done this quickly, can it?”

Officer Li nodded again and again. ”It’s because Dahuang, Heizi, and the twenty outstanding police dogs from before have all repeatedly performed with great distinction in their respective units.”

”Word has already spread throughout our public security system! Now, with economic development widening the gap between rich and poor, the public safety situation in many places has become extremely dire.”

”All sorts of petty thefts and criminal cases are gradually on the rise. The challenges our public security system faces are growing, and sometimes, we have no leads at all on many cases.”

”Just last week, one of the police dogs assisted our officers and actually helped crack a dismemberment case! It not only found all the locations where the body was disposed of, but also located the murder weapon, and even led them to the killer.”

”A case like that, with insufficient evidence, would normally be impossible to convict on. But now, it was solved in three days, and the killer confessed. That’s why more and more units are applying for these police dogs.”

”Since construction began on the police dog base, they’ve been working in two shifts, keeping the site running day and night. The number of workers was greatly increased, and they worked overtime to get it finished.”

”Now, the first batch of 200 high-quality police dog puppies has been delivered to the police dog base. We’re just waiting for you to have some free time and head over as soon as possible.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Alright, I’ll go over tomorrow!”

Officer Li’s gaze fell on Han Xiaorui’s slightly protruding belly. ”Don’t worry, all the dogs have been vaccinated and dewormed. They’re very healthy.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Raising these dogs is mainly about the feed and the training process. A lot of the time I just have to give orders, I don’t need to get my hands dirty.”

”Take the previous 20 police dogs, for example. Wu Jiao and Wu Yao trained most of them. It’s not as complicated as you might think.”

Officer Li didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”Do you think we haven’t looked into it? We’ve tried mixing the same feed you use and raised a batch of police dogs on it. While they’re a little better than ordinary police dogs, they’re nowhere near as good as the ones you train.”

”In the end, one of our most experienced police dog trainers came to a conclusion. He said everything in the world has its own destiny. It’s like how some people are naturally good at cooking, while others are born with a talent for making clothes... a lot of things are just inexplicable like that!”

”In short, we can’t figure out the reason, so we’re entrusting the management of this police dog base to you. Maybe you’re the ’chosen one.’ It’s like how many people have fishing boats, but yours always returns fully loaded, and with plenty of good fish.”

”There’s a saying about chosen ones, blessed by fate, who are exceptionally skilled in certain areas. So we will give you our full support, Comrade Xiao Han. Don’t worry, and have no reservations.”

Han Xiaorui was at a loss for words. ”Comrade Li, you’re a Party member. How can you believe in things like that?”

Officer Li burst out laughing. ”Believing in this doesn’t mean I’m superstitious! It’s like how I believe the Chairman was sent by heaven to save our China, to save us common folk!”

”Besides, what we’re doing is right and just. There’s a saying: ’Do good, and don’t worry about what comes next.’ If we can breed more and more outstanding police dogs, solve more cases, reduce wrongful convictions, and improve public safety, then the result is good!”

For Officer Li’s words alone, Han Xiaorui would do her utmost to make this a success.

”Comrade Li, rest assured!” Han Xiaorui said firmly. ”I’ll go over tomorrow and put the police dog training on the schedule as soon as possible. It just so happens that the feed production workshop at the ornamental fish farm has brought in new equipment! The dog food can be made there and then transported over!”

Officer Li nodded. ”Alright. They have a dedicated accountant and cashier there, so everything can just be put on the books.”

After Officer Li left, Han Xiaorui called Teacher Zhao and asked him to tell Han Xiaoqing she could come home for the weekend.

After her classes ended in the afternoon, Han Xiaoqing put on her backpack and took the bus home.

”Sis, where are they?” Han Xiaoqing asked. She had been worried when leaving school that her parents might be outside.

Han Xiaorui smiled. ”They’ll never bother us again!”

Han Xiaoqing’s face went pale with shock. ”Sis, murder is illegal! You can’t do that!”

In Han Xiaoqing’s mind, only dead people could no longer cause trouble.

Han Xiaorui didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. ”What are you letting your imagination run wild for? Why would I kill anyone? Of course there was a better way to solve this!”

”How much did you pay them to agree to go back to our hometown?” Han Xiaoqing breathed a sigh of relief, but she was still worried. ”They took the money this time, but once they spend it all, they’ll just come back. There’s no way this is a permanent solution!”

Han Xiaorui answered with a smile, ”Don’t get ahead of me. I’ll tell you the whole story from the beginning. They didn’t go back to our hometown. They were sent abroad!”

”Your brother-in-law originally wanted to send them out through proper channels, but they were worried we would do something underhanded and absolutely refused. So, we found someone to smuggle them out instead.”

”What?” Han Xiaoqing was stunned. ”Oh my god! You can do that?! But that’s a brilliant idea! Once they’re settled over there, you just destroy their documents. If they can’t prove their identity, they can’t come back.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”That was the idea, and that’s the plan! The United States is so developed now. By the time this is all over, they might even end up being grateful to us!”

”They get to go abroad and live the life they want, and we get some peace and quiet over here. We won’t bother each other. A true severing of family ties.”

Han Xiaoqing burst out laughing, incredibly excited. ”That’s fantastic! I haven’t had a moment of peace at school these past few days. I was even dreaming about them harassing us.”

”If they only favored boys over girls, I might not hate them so much. I hate that for their own selfish interests, they were willing to disregard whether we lived or died.”

”If we were still obedient to parents like that, our lives would be miserable. It would be a betrayal of myself and a betrayal of the education I’ve received over so many years. All my studies would have been for nothing.”

”Sometimes, I’d secretly and darkly pray for them to die. ’How great would that be!’ But I know I can’t do anything like that. I won’t throw away my own bright future and my life because of them.”

”Now we’re on opposite sides of the Earth, each living our own lives without interfering with the other. It’s perfect. Sister, this solution is just too good. From today on, I can finally sleep soundly!”

Tears streamed down Han Xiaoqing’s face as she spoke.

If their family had been even slightly more reliable, Han Xiaorui and Han Xiaoqing would never have resorted to such a drastic measure.

They had been left with no other choice!

If they didn’t want to be coerced and exploited for a lifetime, their only option was to use a more ruthless solution.

Han Xiaorui nodded with a smile. ”We owe each other nothing, and we can each live in peace. Okay, let’s not talk about these upsetting things. You like puppies, don’t you? I’ll take you to the newly built police dog base tomorrow.”

”Okay!” Han Xiaoqing wiped away her tears and smiled again.
