The Sea Queen of 1985

Chapter 374: Chapter 374: No Loose Ends

Han Xiaorui froze for a moment, then asked anxiously, ”Did they kill someone?”

Liu Zhan replied, ”They didn’t kill anyone, but they did assault someone! Han Xiaoyuan broke his ex-wife’s ribs. Then, her family came to demand justice.”

”Not only did they beat Han Xiaoyuan up, but they also demanded a divorce and compensation. But Han Xiaoyuan had no money, so they took possession of the house he had built.”

”If your parents didn’t agree, they were going to file a police report. There’s a major crackdown on crime right now, so if a report were filed, Han Xiaoyuan would definitely go to jail. That’s why your parents agreed, and so Han Xiaoyuan and Wang Hongyu got divorced.”

”And that’s not even the craziest part. Turns out Han Xiaoyuan had a lover on the side. After they couldn’t make it there anymore, he took her—a woman from the next village—and ran off with her.”

”The woman’s parents have already filed a report. Our people down there found out they bought tickets to Shencheng, and we’ve already sent colleagues to Shencheng to investigate.”

Han Xiaorui was dumbfounded after listening to Liu Zhan’s account.

”My God, those people can’t stay out of trouble even back home! How could they have caused such a mess!”

Liu Zhan nodded. ”Xiao Rui, I need you to find a way to stall them on your end. I expect our comrades will be there soon.”

”Once they arrive in Shencheng and call back, I’ll give them your contact information. You can provide them with any relevant clues.”

Han Xiaorui nodded. ”Don’t worry, I definitely won’t cover for them. When the police comrades get here, let them be arrested and taken back.”

Liu Zhan hesitated. ”There’s one issue I need to warn you about. The woman Han Xiaoyuan took with him is already twenty-one years old.”

”During my visit this afternoon, I heard that this woman’s parents heavily favor sons over daughters. They wouldn’t even let their eldest daughter marry, wanting her to stay and raise her five younger siblings.”

”If this girl was determined to escape her family and claims she left with Han Xiaoyuan voluntarily, then it’s not abduction.”

”There’s another issue. Your parents gave the house to their former daughter-in-law, and there was an agreement. This is considered a private settlement. As the saying goes, the law doesn’t get involved if no one files a complaint, so there’s nothing we can do to Han Xiaoyuan for that either.”

”So you need to be prepared. We might not even have the authority to arrest them and bring them back. The root of everything lies with Han Xiaoyuan’s new partner.”

Han Xiaorui took a few deep breaths. ’I understand.’ ”Thank you for your trouble, Liu Zhan.”

Liu Zhan smiled and replied, ”It’s my duty. No trouble at all.”

After hanging up, Han Xiaorui tried to calm her turbulent emotions.

Ye Feng returned from outside, placed his briefcase on the counter, and saw Han Xiaorui’s tightly furrowed brow. ”Didn’t we agree you’d leave this to me? You shouldn’t worry about it.”

Ye Feng looked at Han Xiaorui’s already showing belly with a worried expression.

Han Xiaorui gritted her teeth. ’How can people be so disgusting, so detestable?’

”Liu Zhan just called me, and I found out what happened back home... I’ve already made up my mind. If Han Xiaoyuan didn’t abduct that girl, then I’m sending all four of them abroad—the kind of trip they’ll never return from.”

Hearing this, Ye Feng took Han Xiaorui’s hand. ”I was planning to handle all of this myself. I didn’t want you to get involved.”

Han Xiaorui raised an eyebrow. ”We’re husband and wife. We’ll just hire someone to tell them how easy it is to make money abroad, how much you can earn, that the grass is always greener... If they choose to be smuggled out of the country voluntarily, what does that have to do with me?”

Han Xiaorui could just imagine it. Once her family latched onto her, she would never have a moment’s peace again.

If these people had any bottom line, any morals, Han Xiaorui wouldn’t have resorted to this.

But these people were leeches. Especially with two daughters, they just sucked and squeezed them dry.

She was about to have four children of her own. If those people got involved in her life, it would bring immense uncertainty.

Having lived through the bloody and perilous apocalypse, she had witnessed the most vicious and despicable side of human nature.

She was absolutely certain that her parents would even harm her children for Han Xiaoyuan’s sake.

She didn’t want to live with regret; she would rather be the villain.

This wasn’t the time for misplaced compassion. It was a competition of who could be more ruthless!

Ye Feng had never seen Han Xiaorui this angry before. It was clear her family had left not a single good impression on her.

”Alright, I’ll handle it,” Ye Feng agreed. After all, Han Xiaorui was pregnant and couldn’t overexert herself.

Han Xiaorui shook her head. ”You don’t have to do it. Let Sister-in-law Xiao Yu’s cousin handle it. They’re our own people, let them do it.”

Ye Feng raised an eyebrow. ”Sister-in-law Xiao Yu is indeed trustworthy, and I imagine her cousin is reliable too. But things are unpredictable. What if her cousin gets caught for human smuggling? Have you considered the two possibilities?”

Han Xiaorui faltered. ”Getting caught, confessing in exchange for leniency, and ratting us out? Or, using it as leverage to force us to find a way to bail them out?”

Ye Feng nodded. ”Exactly. It’s fine when nothing goes wrong, but once there’s trouble, too many variables come into play.”

”It’s just sending them abroad, right? There are plenty of legitimate channels for overseas work. It’s just a matter of money, isn’t it? We can afford it. Let’s send them out properly, legally and above board.”

Han Xiaorui blinked. ”My goal in sending them to work abroad isn’t for them to make money. It’s to make sure they can never come back!”

Hearing this, Ye Feng chuckled. ”They’ll leave the country legitimately, but once they’re abroad, it’s a capitalist’s world. With enough money, what can’t be done?”

”Once they’re there, we can have their documents destroyed and then have them transported to another location. That would be a form of smuggling, and they’d never be able to return. This way is much safer. Even abroad, I wouldn’t have to lift a finger; there are people willing to do the job for us.”

After listening to Ye Feng, Han Xiaorui blinked. ”Ye Feng, your method is better. No loose ends.”

Ye Feng smiled, reassuring Han Xiaorui. ”Sister-in-law Xiao Yu’s cousin has legitimate channels too. As long as they step out of the country, what happens next will be completely out of their control.”

”Okay! Let’s do it your way! I’ll handle the rest, so you can rest completely assured.” Han Xiaorui hugged Ye Feng’s waist, resting her pretty face against his stomach. ”Thank you!”

”We’re husband and wife. Your business is my business! Rest completely assured!”

Meanwhile, outside East China Normal University, Han Dayong, Mrs. Han, Han Xiaoyuan, and Liu Yunyun grew increasingly anxious as the sky darkened.

”Dayong, Xiao Jing won’t see us at all, and we don’t know where Xiao Rui lives. It’s getting dark now, shouldn’t we find a place to stay?”

Han Dayong felt the money in his pocket. ”We only have this much. We can barely afford to eat, where would we get the money for a guesthouse?”

Hearing this, Mrs. Han gritted her teeth. ”That second girl is heartless, too! Both of them get into university and forget who raised them? If I’d known they would be so ungrateful, I might as well have strangled them at birth.”
